Hello everyone! I've been playing Tenor Sax for about four years. I want to learn to lay the Saprano really badly but I can't get my hands on a Saprano Sax cause I'm completly and utterly broke from Christmas shopping a few days back. I guess I have to get up off of my lazy butt and look for a job. -sigh- Oh well. But I think I'll buy myself a Tenor Sax before I get myself a Saprano cause I still have to use the crappy ones at school... domokun

Okay, So, I play Trombone as of right now. But, before our school's Christmas break, I told my band teacher that I wanted to switch to Alto Sax. whee stressed sweatdrop xp And some people have been telling me it's extremely hard to make noise on, and we've been into band for about 5 months, and I know all the notes we know on Trombone, I mean, we took a vote for the best trombonist in the trombone section, and everybody said they voted for me, so, I'm pretty good at that.. And I'm terrified that I won't be able to make a sound on the sax! Any advice would help so much! Thanks! -(P)eppermint

Hello everyone! I just joined this guild and I've been playing alto sax for about two years now [translation:I'm horrible -.-'] teehee (p)eppermint, it's not that hard once you get used to it...except when you leave it in the car in a snow storm -.-' [The night of the concert, of course] It wasn't pretty. Never will I do that again[maybe].

Ello everyone! As of right now, I mainly play tenor sax, but I have access at home to the alto and soprano saxophones as well, and have played a bit on the bari. I've been playing for four years now (three on the sax, not counting the times when my mom held an alto sax up to my mouth when I was a baby and told me to blow), and am thinking of picking up one of the other saxophones in school.
Great choice for switching to Saxophone, (P)eppermint! The only problem I ran into was all the notes I played were up an octave, because my embouchure was too tight... ^^'

Just go "TAAAAA" when you're playing and it should work fine. 3nodding Actually it's very easy to get a sound, most of the time it's difficult to get a good sound. You use a lot more air in a sax than you would think, and if you can't get a sound out, you're probably pinching and putting too much pressure on the mouthpiece. You need to think about keeping your jaw low and back and your corners tight. Use lot's and lot's of air. That's what my private instructor always says, and it's been working for me, and I've only been playing for 2 years.

Thanks! -(P)eppermint Actually, I think trombone is one of the harder instuments to play, at least decently. Saxes aren't that hard, Altos are actually (I feel) the eaisiest read instument, because clarinets tend to be more difficult, and it takes more air to play other saxes. (Not including double reeds, I don't know about them, heh.)

Riggs is a proffessional musician, and he's been able to help me a lot with tone quality

I'm a tenor sax veteran, but I play pretty much all of the saxes listed in the poll (except for contrabass...wtf?)
I'm first chair in my symphonic and jazz band at school too.
But the real thing I'm curious about is what reed you like the best. I'm experimenting with different reeds, and so far the Vandoran V-16's (size 4) have been the best.
