You can make anything pirate if you keep these basic rules in mind:
1. The patch makes the pirate. You can make ANYTHING pirate if you put a black eyepatch on it. (However, a patch is not a necessity. I wear glasses and patches look silly with them.)
2. Stripes, stripes, stripes. Black and white work best, but any sort of striped article of clothing will do - even just striped socks.
3. Jolly roger patches are easy to affix to clothing (even with just safety pins, if you don't have a lot of time or don't want the patch to be permanently adhered) and will turn any garment into pirate wear instantly. (You can find the coolest ones online, but if you can't wait for shipping check out your local Hot Topic, TSX or Spencer's Gifts.)
4. Pirates must always carry a weapon. It's just a rule. You never know when someone's going to try and steal your booty (or your rum).
5. Most pirates wear either a bandana or a hat on their head. Hats can range from simple to outrageous, with feathers, beads, sequins, lace, pins, etc. all being options for decoration.
6. TREASURE. Bling it out, baby - pirates love their gold and jewels! The gaudier, the better.
7. Lastly, there comes footwear. Boots, sandals, or bare feet work best. PIRATES DON'T WEAR SNEAKERS. xd
