Alfone murmured his reply, sleep nearly taking him. It was now almost - dawn? - and they were still out. He quickly opened a soft drink he had brought, and drank it slowly. The caffeine would keep him awake.

Tony and the men were in the process of digging when they hit something strange. It didn't feel hard, but it didn't feel soft.
Arthur had left the office the previous night and was now headin back to it.
