The jist of what a poet once said, was: If poetry was the art of spoken word, calligraphy is the art of the written word.

I don't know if anyone knows this, but calligraphy is the most prestigous form of visual art in the Arabic language cultures.

The transliteration of some usernames in Arabic would be:

أوزُمو
Ozumou
Latinized: AWZMW

اكْسنْتْرِك آيقونوكلاست
Eccentric Iconoclast
AKSNTRK AIQWKWKLAST

كيميانجي
Kimyanji
KIMIANGI

ولزي
WellzY
WLZI

The latinized does look familliar doesn't it? It kinda looks like the followying conversation:
O RLY?
YA RLY!
NO WAI!

Arabic is one of the few languages I know of that don't write all vowel sounds (Hebrew, Syriac, and I believe Amharic don't either).

That makes it an abjad, no? Abjads are cool.

On Thanksgiving, you get harrassed by obnoxious relatives. gonk

Trust me, you wouldn't enjoy it.

Just sounds like Christmas to me. Accpet we usually have pork and ham as well.

I know, same animal, different style of cooking.

Ah! I thought I forgot to do something... biggrin

فرعوَدلي يَهويسه

I do have to remind, is that I'm using this script indipendently. If any Arabic speaker were to read this, it might not make any sence because the pronounciations are different (such as how how "J" sounds different in other different languages...)
A native speaker would mistakenly read it as
[Fer'oadly yahweesa']

It's proper to use Farsi letters to write your username because there is no "P" sound in Arabic... there is an "F" and "B", no "P"...

پراودلي جُوِش is how it's transliterated into Arabic properly...

NOTE:
پ = P (Farsi)
ب = B (Arabic and Farsi)
ف = F (Arabic and Farsi)

EDIT:
I forgot to mention:
The translation of "Proudly Jewish" in Arabic is: "يهودي بفخر" (YaHoWDI BiFaChR) or a femanine version would be "يهودية بفخر" (YaHoWDIyah BiFaChR)

The color emphasis is to show the difference...

Yep... it is! Hebrew, and Farsi are also...

What makes Abjads special is that they don't always need vowels.

The previous sentence would look like this without short vowels:

WT MaeKS 'BJDS SPCL 'S ThAT ThY DNT 'LWYS NeeD VWLS...

ACCRDNG T A WKPDIA 'ARTCL ThAT 'S CoLD "devowling"... SAWNDS A LTL GRoTSQ, DSNT 'T?
(According to a Wikipedia article that is called "devowling"... Sounds a little grotesque, doesn't it?)

That too bad... sad

I remember a visiting Chinese calligrapher visited our college campus, and he did calligraphy in both Arabic and Chinese. He also gave the university some a couple of his works as a gift, including Arabic Qur'anic verses written in Arabic, but with in a Chinese font different from all the commonly knwon Middle Eastern fonts.

surprised You know, until I was about 11 or 12 I didn't even know that there were people out there who studied Russian as a 2nd/3rd/etc language (except Ukrainians and some other people in Eastern Europe).

Cool xp
