"You fail to take into account, however, that one member of that mature couple is a slowly weakening god with a bunch of a*****e nutjobs out to get him and/or his girlfriend, while being on bad terms with the rest of the pantheon he is technically still a part of." Alek had been conferring with Lupa, and eventually it was decided she would carry a message to Angel, and then relay a message back via a telepathic link, which was accomplished by Alek feeding her a fair amount of his blood. The bond would only last a day at most, so Lupa would have to go her fastest, which, in wolf form, was actually pretty damned fast. He watched her go with a soft sigh.
"Actually..." She poked her tummy. "Tomorrow. I'm growing pretty fast. Most of the growth will happen overnight and I'll likely go into labour in the morning. Now, it's super-duper important that you get Jezebellun away from me as fast as possible when she comes out. I'll write everything I'll need down before I go to sleep."

"You've got to be kidding me!" Riley said before just sort of standing there, gaping at how fast everything was happening. "Just how fast is she going to grow?! Are we going to have a teenager on our hands in a matter of days?!" Riley was officially spazzing out at this point.

Mala grinned. "That's only a temporary problem! We'll overcome the revolution and get everything with the gods back to normal. Back at the university, a proffessor as well as I came up with a theory as to why the gods' powers are dwindling. Neither of us had proof, though, so it's probably irrelevant." Mala forgot that she had neglected to mention that sooner.

"Well, she's super-smart right away, and she can walk and make more sophisticated noises, but she grows normally." Angel gave a little shrug. "She'll be just like any super-smart baby that's slightly oversized and can walk."

"Perhaps the power of the gods relied on a sort of pillar. Like, they all put a bit of their power into something. The power inside that object would manifest and grow, thus keeping the gods as powerful as they are. Once that object breaks or becomes too full, power would leak from it - leaving the gods strength in a decaying state until that conduit is fixed." Mala explained with a shrug. "It's just a theory, though. I wouldn't take it very seriously."
{Reading back on this post, it seems like an author's asspull of plotpoints. Once again, it probably is. XD}

Angel turned a little pink. It appeared that, with her baby growing, her heart was beating constantly. "You don't like her?" Angel's voice was just a tad angry. "Do you think she's unnatural? She's my Jezebellun! She's beautiful and perfect!" Ah, vampire hormones. Like human hormones, only more murderous-rage-inducing.

"Better than nothing. I've had zero ideas up 'til now of what in the nine hells is going on, so one theory's certainly more progress than I've had." Van said. It was hard to tell, but after getting so tired out from two instances of using his powers, the whole affair was starting to worry him more than it previously had.
"I didn't say anything like that! Calm down!" Riley said holding his hands up in defense. "Even if I did, I didn't mean to make it sound that way at all, honest!"

"I hope so..." Van said with a sigh. "I don't want to find out what happens if my power hits zero."
