Grey stared at the person, wide-eyed. He looked from the person to the wine cooler, and then back to the person, and then to the wine cooler again, and then to Emma, and then finally back to the wine cooler. He splashed the person with the wine cooler, trying to illicit a response.

The release of magical energy prompted a stir from Emma, but nothing more.
Her heart rate quickened as she struggled to wake but found herself unable.

The person on the floor moaned softly and pushed himself onto his knees.
"Dying sucks," he said quietly as he shook his head. "Rebirth through fire only slightly more so."
Zach tried as hard as he could to ignore the searing pain he just felt to be alive again.

Grey stared at Zach, bewildered. After about five seconds of silence, he reached over and tossed a towel at him, as Grey guessed that clothes didn't get reborn. "So, since the couch became ashes too, does that mean you're part sofa?"

Emma was still.
Frighteningly so.
In fact, it was becoming steadily more difficult to see her draw breath.
Her mind was attempting to shut down her body.

Grey switched his focus over to Emma, who's condition was starting to bother him. He looked at her, and then the half-empty bottle of wine cooler. He shrugged, and with a grin on his face he doused her with the rest of the wine cooler. He hoped that this wouldn't end badly for himself.

Zach caught the towel and laughed nervously as he covered himself.
"No, I'm not part sofa," he said, looking around for Emma. "At least, I don't think that's how it works."
He spotted Emma and reached out to gently nudge her body.

The now-wine soaked enchantress was rather stubbornly unmoving.
The spaces between breaths were now few and far between and a careful mage would have seen a weak and flickering aura.

"... c'mon, Emma," Zach nudged her again. "Stop kidding around and wake up."
He took his right hand and, after infusing it with his newly granted life, placed it on Emma's forehead. While the trick hadn't worked for Question, Zach hoped it would work for him.

There was the faintest of movements and a whisper.
Unfortunately, that whisper was in Old English.

Zach tried forcing his own life into Emma now.
"Emma, wake up," he muttered. "If you don't wake up then how do you think your husband is going to feel?"

Grey was silent, watching Zach do his thing. He noticed the movements and realized that Emma must have some consciousness now. "Well, it might not have worked before. Gotta get out the big guns." He walked to the bar and returned with a large bottle of scotch, which he shook up and opened, ready to splash it over the enchantress.

It was the last part of that phrase that did it. The phrase 'will to live' was often taken as a cliche, but it was rather apt in Emma's case.
The whisper turned into a name and the elf-woman sat bolt upright and the bottle of scotch in Questions hand flew from his grasp.

"I'm so glad that worked," Zach fell back and sighed. "Ivan wanted to threaten both your lives. I think my idea worked a little better for all of us."

Grey rolled his eyes. Of course, by 'all of us' he had meant himself, Ivan, and Emma. He looked at the broken bottle of scotch and sighed. "Such a shame when a drink goes before its time."
