Lore chuckled at that, "Elnara is good at keep secrets until it's time to reveal them," he murmured.
And she was just as good at giving surprises as he had learnt from his time trying to surprise her.

Elnara blushed. "Well, it's not exactly like it's a secret or anything," she protested, "it's just easier to say things once, rather than have to repeat it over and over again."
She led them all into the kitchen and sat down at the table.

"We've got to wash up," Lex told the others, nodding at Gion. "We'll be back in a few minutes."
And with that, he and Gion headed off into the other room again.
Laer and Nadya were in the process of setting food on the table. "So?" Nadya smiled at Lore, setting a pot onto the table and stepping back. "What do you think of our little home?"

"It is very lovely," Lore replied thoughtfully, "and something amazing about having this place all the way out the desert."
Since it was like a jewel among stones, it stood out all the way out here.

"It helps that there's a river here," Elnara smiled, pulling out the chair next to her so that Lore could sit as well. "Grandfather started the plantation when Mother was just a child."

Laer laughed. "Aye, my parents were the first workers hired," she told them. "My father was killed when I was young, but my mother is actually in charge of the press itself, and has been for years. It's always been wonderful here."
"I was born here," Nadya said softly, taking a seat across from Elnara and Lore. "I've only been off the plantation once ... and after that experience, I'm not certain I would ever want to leave again."

Lore took the seat, settling himself down as he listened with interest to Laer and Nadya. Though he was surprised to hear that Nadya had been off the plantation. Since it wasn't the most pleasant travelling he was sure if one walked all the way.

"Wasn't that ... the first time Triton and Donovan and Yue went after the slavers?" Elnara asked her friend curiously. "Or ... rather, the people who were after Mother, and who just happened to turn out to be slavers?"

"Didn't they tell you about it?" Nadya blinked. "Yes ... we went to the far north, Yue created a portal for us to travel through ... for which I am bery grateful. It may be quite warm here, hot even at times, but ... I prefer this climate to the cold of the north. The land there is quite treacherous."

"Well that story I haven't heard," Lore admitted.
Then again this was more for Elnara than for him, so there was a reason why he didn't hear. Though Lore didn't know that the person who had told Elnara wasn't the type of person to divugle information.

"I ... only know bits and pieces of it, myself," Elnara admitted to Lore; then she turned back to Nadya. "All Donovan said was that the people threatening my mother were taken care of, and that mother could return home any time she wanted to ... or would be able to, if my brothers weren't so thick-headed, most of them."

Nadya looked slightly uncomfortable. "I ... didn't much like that trip," she admitted. "The dwarfs ... are not kind, and to see so many children in servitude ... no, bondage ..."
She shuddered.
"And what's even worse," she added softly, "is knowing ... their fates ... despite no longer being there ... I see them ..."

"I see..." Lore murmured.
So slavery, he could see that being very unpleasant, he had been fortunate to be spared that. No one wanted a servant that could taint them after all. Though he couldn't help but wonder about those children, trapped there....

Elnara leaned back in her chair and folded her hands in her lap.
"I see," she repeated Lore's words softly, shaking her head slowly. "The poor children."

"Well, I'm sure something will be done for them in the future," Nadya smiled. "I'm certain of it."
Just then, Lex and Gion entered the kitchen again, each of them taking a seat. Galdor followed a moment after them, sitting beside Nadya.
"Well," Lex grinned, "here we all are. What was it you wanted to say, Elnara? Or does Lothiriel have to be here as well?"
