It's not very random. At the very least it's not random because more Kryptonians have been Nightwing than humans (5 to 4).
Additionally, Match's 'altered' identity is partly analogous to Chris Kent, kinda sorta. (Chris Kent became a Nightwing) There are also other things which I won't get into because it's spoilers.
So yeah, a little random but not VERY random. Nightwing isn't just a Batfamily identity.

Only Super that I know as Nightwing was Power Girl, and I acknowledge and remember it because her costume looks badass.

Ok, well either way the Nightwing creature is Kryptonian and the mythology surrounding it is also Kryptonian. d**k heard the name from Superman and just thought it sounded cool.

This is just a hypothetical Elseworlds scenario anyway. Which is the main reason for the large divergence, since Elseworlds stories tend to present the unexpected.
Man, the more we talk about other worlds the more I wanna throw my hat in with my plot. XP
Current Match will never become Nightwing.... probably. I can't guarantee there won't be some Kandor shenanigans far, far down the road.
As it is now, no Nightwing for Match. I don't know if we'll even see him in the story... >_> It just depends on how much interaction our universe has with the Elseworlds universes.

We establish the characters that may have interaction with their counterparts during Crisis. That way we have an understanding of how they might be fighting to either take over and destory vs. fight to save it.
The villian's world.. I'm thinking Babs could be Nightmare's Woman. Save for the fact they might be trying to kill eachother like Ultraman and Superwoman in Crisis on Two Earths
