That IS the question, isn't it? What did Lex Luthor REALLY stand to gain from a seemingly random proposal to fake a death from Tony Stark? Bear in mind that, in Tony's version of events, HE is the one who has approached Lex, who remains, apparently blissfully clueless about an impending coup.
I think that "Poison Ivy decides to fake an intrusion on a distant planet a thousand years in the future to gain control of a loose-knit band of supervillains" as an explanation behind everything bears further consideration.
The retrovirus that was introduced into Tenzil Kem's brother was, by most standards, igenious in design. Far moreso then any plant-hugging chemist could conceive of.

Welllllll . . . I know that the boss has a "healthy dose of paranoia," that's for sure. I know he has a standing offer to upgrade any II member's tech whenever they ask for it, no questions asked.
Of course, after he got his body back from the Flash, we saw what good that did him . . . Doesn't keep people from taking upgrades. That or they forget he has his own way of implanting .. . well "leashes," for lack of a better word.

And so you honestly believe that Poison Ivy decided, of her own violition, to stage an invasion of the homeworld of a non-Earthling, whom she had never met, whom would never interact with her, behind Lex's back? A non-Earthling, towards which Lex is given predisposition to not trust in the first place, but also a non-Earthling that handed him a most humiliating defeat in a high-profile, highly publicized court case?
Who do you really think is playing the chess game here, Live Wire?

. . . the boss? I don't know, though. I mean, that seems so obvious. Wouldn't Stark have thought of all that, too? I mean,he'snot supposed to be stupid.

Stark.
Stark blew up his own home base.
Stark deceived his teammates into thinking he was dead, while sacrificing his own body for the deception.
Stark has been under the influence of airborne hormones causing him to moon over an underage girl for the last two months.
Stark says that I am wrong.
Stark believes, in all honesty, that he saved both dimensions from a war with Poison Ivy because of his doing the above things.
Stark is the sort of man who believes in bringing a bazooka to a swordfight. There may be genius there (though I consider that to be debatable), but there is no grace, no excellence of execution. All of this destruction and ridiculous backstabbing could have so easily been circumvented.

Of course, perhaps I am just whistling in the dark here, and things are exactly as they've been presented in the last day.
Perhaps it's just easier if everyone accepts that.
For now.

Humans . . . superpowered or otherwise . . . are odd. Sometimes I wish I'd blown Earth up in the first place. Not very often, but when I hear of things like this.

For now. No matter how you say it, I'm getting that this is Stark's fault?

Technogeek Jubilation Lee ::walks in blowing a bubble, walks over by Vegita, bubble getting bigger:: . . . . humans are the only people I know who'll intentionally chew on something that they can't eat. I never understood that.
