Nothing once more. Or rather, maybe it would be better to say that he couldn't really get the true feel of it. As the battle before him raged on, he looked up to see how his mother was fairing. She seemed to be doing well enough against the old man but...well why had she started to strik at the Hyuuga. What was going through her mind? Roy's own mine raced with thoughts as to what could be going on...that was probably why he failed in his own training. Distractions were the worst types of things to have going on, specailly good ones like this. Just about anyone would have had their attention split here...it was just something that couldn't be helped really.

Roy whipped his face a bit...it was a way to draw his attention away from the battle. He needed more focus. He sighed a little and looked to Shikimori...completly calm and complacite..well maybe not completly but close enough. damn this guy was solid...was this what was meant to be a genius of the Nara clan? His admeration only grew as he looked on to the Nara. Yes, this is what he would aspire too. He would take this clan's jutsu and perfect it, redefine it even. But of course, pay proper respect to those that originally created it. Yes, he wouldn't disrespect them at all, probably would teach them if he created or perfected anything. It was the least he could do for the clan that he admired so much.

After all, so many other clans had power handed to them but the Nara clan..they worked for their power. They earned everything they got. Not to say people like Yokou didn't earn what she had but she was born into greatness to begin with, Shikimori grew into it. Roy would do the same. Reapplying his rat seal, he forced his chakra again.

Still nothing. This time he bearly even felt his chakra reach past his feet. This was something quite interesting. After all, moving his chakra into his feet was one thing. He had gotten that. Cold memories of the Water Walking Training made him shiver a bit. He hated that, specially since he did it himself. No one had ever really helped him with most of his training. He did a great majority of it by himself. Of course, that didn't include his genjutsu or taijutsu. He did have his mother's aid with the tai and his cat's words of knowledge with his new genjutsu training but ninjutsu...ninjutsu was something else. All that he knew, he taught himself. Even from the academy he had to go it alone but he did it just well. He wouldn't stop now. ALthough he had to admit, it was so much nicer to have a helping word over his head. Having someone that already knew the jutsu was so much easier to work with than anything else.

Roy decided some visualization exercises were in order. He removed the rat seal and stood there with his arms at his sides. Closing his eyes gave him access to complete darkness. Soon he began to block out many different things, first was sound...then went touch. Scent was last to go. These main senses were the things that distracted one during combat. Of course, he hadn't perfected this to a level of use in combat but for training, it was a nice advantage. He took a deep breath and began to visualize his chakra flowing through his body. He took a longer breath as he tried to apply the rat seal again.

His chakra did move. He felt it reaching for the souls of his feet. The suction of the ground against his feet thanks to chakra was felt again. It was beginning. But still it wasn't quite there. The chakra flow was still only performing the Wall Walking proceedure, nothing greater than that. It was reaching out to his shadow, stretching out to it but it wasn't reaching it like it needed too. Releasing the seal, his chakra began to flow again as normal. Nothing forced or strained about it.

Standing silently, he continue to keep his eyes closed, focused on his thoughts and mental images of what should be going on. he imagined his shadow, restricted to his body and forming only what the sun and his body allowed it. Sucha restricted thing taking a life of its own and moving away from him, stretching too and froe in an attempt to touch something and take their ability to move and be free away from them. What a strange trade off this was. In exchange for chakra, the shadow was given its freedom only to instill that harsh reality of confinement not just on another shadow but on another person. Roy liked the irony of such a thing. He wondered if anyone else had ever thouht of it that way.

Still nothing. maybe he was thinking too hard. Maybe not hard enough. What was so hard about this. But again, the thought flooded his mind. If it was easy to do, others would have already mimiced the jutsu so he couldnt complain really. He simply grew quiet and sighed a bit. What an annoyance this was becoming. He knew what to do but he just couldn't get it done. It was like telling someone to go push a mountain till it tipped over. Sure, they knew what to do, they knew how to do it, didn't mean they could do it. This was the same general concept. He knew what to do, he knew generally how to do it, but had no clue if he could do it.

But that wouldn't stop him. he be here all damn night if thats what it took to move his shadow even one millimeter away from its normal, preset bounds. he'd force it by all manor of will and chakra if thats what it took. And thats what he planned on doing. He had a determination to learn this jutsu. Here, before him was the jutsu of his dreams. Well maybe that was an exageration but the general idea was there. This was the clan he admired the most and he was being given his chance at learning their jutsu. All he had to do was get the hang of it. He'd do it dammit. Reapplying the rat seal, he moved his chakra once more.

Yet another annoying failure. This was becoming a habit with him during his training. He would ahve such a hard time doing these things. It was almost like his body didn't care for him to do this kinda stuff. Was it just not his way? Maybe he wasn't doing what he should? Maybe his body was just being a resilliant a*****e like him. Yea, that sounded more like the right asnwer. He sighed a bit as he looked down to the ground. He cracked his eyes open just long enough to see his shadow just laying there, not moving unless his body directed it too. Not his chakra. Man oh man what a bother this was.

Looking up to the sky, his eyes were sheilded by his hand to keep the sun from bothering him. He had to take a long moment to just relax and let things flow through. His chakra was moving again at a normal pace, not altered by his forcing of it. he simply smiled as he looked up. On top of all that, he was also trying to ignore the battle going on a bit away from him. He sighed and looked off to the side grumbling to himself. Man this was a weird way to start things off.

Reapplying the seal, he sighed and forced his charka to move again.

Why that little-... Zephyr thought furiously as the spinning black blur pretty much took advantage of his entrapped position and landed two kicks. Two painful kicks. That wasn't the main problem though - after years, almost as out of reflex...he sort of induced self-healing subconsciously on his own...by forcing damaged cells to regenerate new ones. Yokou didn't seem to realize though, distracted, though she easily parried off an attack from Ryoko as he finally broke out. She stopped for a moment, and appeared to be saying something to the smaller kunoichi. There! Taking advantage of the opening, Zephyr striked at the base of Ryoko's neck, aiming to disrupt her movement for at least a few minutes so he and Yokou could at least finish their match properly without interruptions - yes, it would not take long. But after all, it wouldn't do for a foreigner to ruin a match he had waited a decade for.

Escaping Ryoko's attack was not as difficult as escaping her sensei's original Herculean style techniques - which was something akin to running from a nuclear bomb. Swiftly, Yokou stopped Zephyr from his sneak attack by pressing the hilt of the sheathed Kusanagi warningly at his abdomen. She hated sneak attacks - it was against her clan's code of honour. “Ryoko-han...” Yokou spoke up suddenly, her eyes appearing not to have left Zephyr but she did alter her field of view to Ryoko. “Please.” One word was enough to convey the unspoken words - she too had awaited long for this battle. There would be many chances in the future for her and Zephyr to train side by side with Ryoko...Konoha won’t be leaving anytime soon - that fact was for sure. But this particular spar was important to her.

"I think we'll be okay for now...at least..." Shikamori commented dryly after observing the little exchange between his team and Ryoko. Though the Nara did not say anything else...Shikamori was quite confident of his statement because...well...if his suspicions were correct, Yokou wouldn't let the spar continue after Zephyr took damage from someone else other than her. That and again, with her clan's complex code of honour...which was in the Konoha analysis edition he never bothered reading. At most, five minutes...that the two would probably contribute to resting - five minutes of peace and quiet, no explosions of the sort. He better enjoy the damned five minutes before the landscape changes again.

Roy looked at the strike hit his mother in the back of the neck. Whatever the hell it was, she was stunned...she stoped moving. Was breathing but stoped moving. He grinned a bit and almost didn't notice his shadow bending and shaping around the area like a snake. he looked down at the last moment and noticed it. "HOLY...!" he said for a moment as he jumped a bit. he then lost control and it snapped back. He had done it! Now...NOW he knew it could be done. There was no stopping him now.

Reapplying his chakra, he took a deep breath. he'd do it once more and this time it'd stick dammit. he was going ot master this no matter what it took. He heard Shiki-boy's words. So long as he was comfrotable at this distance, Roy would at least stay a step behind him. He was trusting but not stupid. He knew people made mistake and if this was a mistake by Shikimori, he'd be damn sure to avoid the consequences.

////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Ryoko...wheather she wanted to or not had no real choice in the matter of leavin the spar alone. It was strange, back in the village they told her it'd be ok. Maybe she misunderstood in her rush for enjoyment. WOuldn't have been the first time. As she lay there, she knew the kinda damage that could be done and slowly rolled off to the side. She couldn't do much else really. For some odd reason her pectoral muscles were twitching whenver she tried to move her pinky toe.
PostPosted: Fri Feb 29, 2008 2:30 pm

Yokou and Zephyr had abandoned sparring. The two were having a furious verbal exchange. Shikamori would best be regretting his previous evaluation very soon - not only will the landscape change sooner than he expected, his life might be in danger when either of the two Sannins’ tempers reached explosion point. Yokou was usually very calm and composed, immune to insults but when it comes to their sensei...even the Nara wasn’t so confident. Fool.” Yokou hissed - no one had seen her this angry before, or with such a total loss of composure. She was angry for not being able to stop Zephyr, who was swifter, though she had seen his attack coming. But she was even more furious for something else - what if he had hurt Ryoko more than originally intended? A rightful worry too, considering he just oblitered at least a good 50 meters of this area with a single strike.

It was only one, quick Ranshinsho! She’ll be able to move in less than two minutes.” Zephyr argued back, not quite seeing his student’s problem. “You wanted this spar as much as I did! Would you have accepted interference? Yokou’s violet eyes flashed dark with annoyance as her right fist lashed out, crashing into a rather large boulder at her side. A trickle of blood dribbled from her torn knuckles but she seemed to care less. “Of course not! Yes, this spar means a lot to me. Before you went ahead and did that.” Yokou began, voice rather impatient. “ Ryoko-han only wanted to see how strong the Konoha Sannins were - a chance to spar. And before even saying something, you just...” Her tone became accusing now. “Someone like you, hailed Sannin, yet can’t even control that ridiculous strength without chakra gloves! And you’re asking me to trust your logic?

Logic?” Zephyr growled, utterly annoyed as well. “The only one without logic is you. It’s that problem with sneak attacks again, right?” A heavy pause hung in the air before Zephyr continued with his lecture. “Life isn’t always a skip and hop through, not even for you, Hyuuga-hime. Would you had rather been hit? Leave my clan and its code of honour in peace, like I had respected yours. On the battlefield, there are two different kinds of shinobi...we simply were never the type to make the first hit.” Her voice took an impatient turn. “That is the reason why the clan even survived until today, because from the first Hokage-sama, he and his successors understood we would not settle for simply being ‘tools of the village’.” Pausing for a moment, she added. “The first of the clans originally living in Konoha whom wouldn’t bow down to the first Senjus...thus inspiring the others to move against the invaders...force compromise.

Yes yes, I know my history.” Zephyr muttered, annoyance climbing. “You forget the Shodaime was a man whom only cared for the limits of those clans. Why else would he accept the assistance of such...such a vile, evil man as Uchiha Madara? And later, even be forced to evict his very founding partner?” His lip curled scornfully. “The only reason why your clan was exempt from direct control by the Hokage was because Hyuuga were among the three most powerful doujutsu families...as well as among the most influential of the original clans already residing in the area.
PostPosted: Fri Feb 29, 2008 2:55 pm

Yokou’s tone, as she spoke again was quietly furious, making even Zephyr look up in surprise. “Don’t say such things without conviction. Shodaime repented and took care of his village as he would his own Senju family. He was willing to die, even for people not related to his blood. And everyone in the village...from his successors to every last shinobi, held that hope.

People expect great things - stereotype those whom came from lines with famous limits as ‘prodigy’. Even should they fail earning the title of prodigy...outside of the clan at least, they will still be seen with a degree of certain prestige. But, if one of no limit expresses mediocracy, they’re instantly labeled ‘failure’. It’s very easy thus...to hate one with kekkai genkai... But can you really call it fortune’s gift?” Her next expression was disappointed. “Look how ‘fortune’s gift’ burdened our current Hokage-sama. And even you, though you hide the fact...in empty boasts of how happy you are with Mokouton...” Her voice dropped to a whisper. “You resent being directly lab-born, correct?

Zephyr’s face flushed slightly. Yokou perhaps had seen more than intended. “If it was possible... I would’ve liked...to fall ill at least once.” Zephyr admitted. “Just to feel human. Ten years ago, I stopped aging...perhaps I do not even have the natural human lifespan anymore. Why? If Museifu and I weren’t limit holders, would you’ve failed us? Our team had always been uncoordinated...and we did fail to pass the bell test... Zephyr turned away before he gave her a reply. “I don’t know why either...” What did indeed attract him to his team?

Roy was failing now but not cause of the mishaps of his own body. he was distracted...his mind had wandered to listening to the two Sannin going at it. If they kept up with this, their spar would turn to one that seaked blood and this wasn't something they could handle, specially with his mom still trying to get her movement back. He broke the rat seal and looked up. Two full grown adults arguing...he scuffed and began to walk toward the group.

Reaching down quickly, Roy gripped a rather sizable stone that had been upturned do to the battle. A few quick handsigns and he let the rock fly. It would move between the two Sannin and shatter like a granade. It would shoot spikes in all directins but none with any deadly force. Hell, barly enough to do any damage. It was a warning shot to get their attention.

"ENOUGH! You two babies are aggrivating me beyond all belief. Look, my mom is a bit overzelous, that's true but she'll be fine. If she was in serious pain, she wouldn't have stopped interfearing, even if he knocked her unconcious, she'd still be back at it so don't worry about her."

He moved himself to the center of the two. Looking directly back and forth between the two of them..."What the hell are you two doing? Doubting each other and calling each other on faults of the past? Who gives a rats a** what you are or where you came from or what others did in the past, ******** them! You two are here to better yourselve and protect what you have now. Those in the past didn't do or go through the hell they went through just so you can sit here today and argue about the past or what it means to have a bloodline or not. I don't have one and you think I care if people consider me a failure or a success? They can kiss my a**."

He sighed a bit, "Now as for you two, it doesn't matter what you started from or what life led you to do. You made the choices to be what you are today. At any given time you could have left your lives and started new ones at any time. The old b*****d was your sensei. For whatever reason,he caries for you. Don't know why personally but he does. If he puts higher standards on you thats cause he expected more from you and you didn't live up. Now that you have the chance, you worry about trivial histories and squabble amongst yourselves!"

His gaze then turned to the old man, "Dont think your free either. So your a test tube baby...I'm sorry but boo ******** who. You are who you are cause of what you've done, not cause of what some freaky weirdo in a lab did. You should be happy for what you have. There are those that would kill for what you have and what you are. Be thankful..."

Roy looked back to Shikimori...he had to have had a hard time of things back int his time. To be teamed with a Hyuuga and an Uchiha. God he felt sorry for Shikimori..."And how do you think he felt in that time...he was being constantly compared to the prodogy clans...Just being in that team had to be like hell for him cause everyone probably wondered what the ******** he was there for...if anyone has a right to complain about hte past, it's him..."

He turned to look back to them, "Now, either make up and spar or don't make up and kill each other. Either way I got training to do."

[[not even sure all that contributes to the argument but it felt good.]]

((The child whom was left alive...was Kaisude.))

Zephyr was silent as he carefully contemplated Roy's words before a slight chuckle escaped him. This kid...reminded him of a more familiar scene from nearly two decades ago. Three newly Genin kids, angrily demanding to know why the heck they failed his Genin test (Zephyr failed his team post praising their talents as individuals). A small smile crept up his lips. They were unbelievably so innocent and cute back then. And they would listen to him, clamoring around attentively like little ducklings...how times had changed.

When his team graduated to Chuunin and Museifu to Jounin, Zephyr rejoined the hunter-nin division. A year and half later, he was soon followed by Museifu and Shikamori. Yokou, on her own whims, chose to stay Jounin and walk the path of a medic-nin. Occasionally, she would join the three on special missions which would require a medic-nin’s assistance. Zephyr left the ANBU hunter-nin division...after his final mission, an order to execute two traitors. But the two traitors were a Uchiha husband-wife pair...they even had a young son. Zephyr wouldn’t...couldn’t let his team do the killing...for Shikamori was on the verge of breaking down and Yokou could not watch at all - orders could be that cruel. Museifu was the one whom had no problems with easily dispatching the two targets.

He chose to stain his hands, executed the husband and the wife as the mission had instructed but left the child alive. Their small boy...though he knew the situation was hopeless...had the guts to stand up to the Sannin. Perhaps...Zephyr couldn’t kill the child, even if he wanted to. Because those angry, determined eyes reminded him too much of his own...when he destroyed the lab scientists whom stole his mother’s life.

But that was also the first time he had noticed something weird with Museifu’s behavior - the then late teenage Uchiha had suggested that they kill the child too, in case he posed a future threat. Zephyr promptly refused, saying the mission’s objective was completed. The three returned to Konoha...only to discover something worse. The two Uchiha traitors whom were killed...were not traitors at all. It was only a misunderstanding, their papers pending to stay outside the village for few years only were found too late and hadn’t reached the Hokage in time.

He may had been following orders but Zephyr was disgusted...with the carelessness which cost two innocent lives.

A small grin crossed Shikamori’s face. Actually...on the team itself, he didn’t suffer that much. Zephyr never took favourites, geniuses or not. Rather, the Sannin kept up the whole ‘I hate all three of you’ front. Actually, he was much harsher on Museifu alone, since the Uchiha was considerably the strongest in his particular field. Though, more often than not, hurtful comments would be carelessly passed by other teachers, when they ask Zephyr how his ‘two prodigy students’ were doing.

Two? What about him...? Did anyone even remember that he was part of squad 13 as well? Probably not. In his team, he usually faded into the background - with the Senju leader for a teacher, the Hyuuga heiress, and the second son of the Uchiha main family.

In his own family, his father as a Nara elder, did an awful lot of nagging on ‘how well he’s doing with his new team’. It was always a touchy topic between them and so...eventually, Shikamori tried to direct his hatred to Museifu, in the form of a childish rivalry. Even if it seemed foolish to try and catch up with a prodigy, like hell he wasn’t going to try. After his failed confession to Yokou, the Hyuuga heiress seemed to take care of him more, as if afraid to hurt her teammate.

In fact, Yokou even went as far as stalking the offenders and sent the kids who nagged and threw rocks at him the day before for being ‘the loser’ of the team on a one way ticket to the hospital. Afterwards, Shikamori had to help Yokou hide from her father for a day...though fortunately, the former Hyuuga leader was mystified with the whole situation. He was called in because the doctors said the holes burnt into the children’s arms looked like Juuken...but of course, the three children were too scared to even speak to him. Afterwards, a single, furious glare from Yokou was enough to send future offenders scattering.

Heh.” Shikamori grinned slightly at the memory. “You make me sound like a saint. But...it was alright...on the team itself. Sensei wasn’t the type to take favourites...and Yokou beat up any kids who messed with me. That didn’t really stop the older shinobi...but it’s something you get used to.” From his position, Shikamori watched as his Hyuuga comrade shot him a sweet smile before she and Zephyr sat on opposite boulders, dropping into meditation positions - probably busy to recover stamina and chakra.

Ryoko was sitting up by now. She was still in Haruko form. She had lost the form shortly after the hit and it took her a moment to regain her composure and reapply the jutsu. God what a pain it was to redo it and redo her bodies workings. However, she waved to the two sannin and waited for them to continue.

Roy looked up and noticed the old woman he called mother and sighed a bit. He began to walk toward the area that Shikimori was in and sat next to him. He was tired of this and hoped they would work better as a team from now on. Honestly, grown people fighting was annoying.
