Grey entered the tavern and ordered a coffee, as usual. It was good to be wearing an old, comfortable outfit. He sipped the beverage, contemplating.

Emma cursed herself in every language she could think of.
You bloody fool! NEVER trust him, you know you should never trust him and you did! Now you've probably lost Zach, all because you couldn't stand your emotions getting the better of you!
It was her own voice in her head, nothing more, nothing less.

Once all of the darkness had been drawn from Emma Zach's body was entirely black. There was a moment's pause where there was no sound save for Ivan's blissful laughter and then... silence. The body had frozen in place and Ivan's laughter was nothing but an echo.

Emma continued berating herself, looking on with an unreadable expression.
Her hands were curled into fists as she stood stock-still, rapier at her hip and a spell in mind.

Grey twitched, dropping his coffee mug to the ground. He could feel great darkness nearby, and he had to find the source. He practically leaped off of his stool and dashed through the tavern to the room where he would find the darkness. He walked through the doorway and saw... "What the hell...?" He saw Emma and a figure that seemed familiar, though he could not recognize them.

Zachary Charon rolled 3 10-sided dice:
1, 7, 7
Total: 15 (3-30)

A long silence passed and Zach simply stood completely still. Then, without any warning, she fell to the floor, killed off by the darkness.

Magical fatigue, emotional shock, and the hormonal roller coaster of the century were all factors contributing to one final result:
Emma's eyes rolled up in her head, and she fainted.

Grey was puzzled, both as why Zach was engulfed in darkness, and why they both spontaneously fainted. "Well, looks like I showed up just in time." He sighed and picked both of them up. He carried them over his shoulders to the bar and laid them on couches. Taking a long sip of coffee, he held his hands over both of them and tried to implant life force into them. Not enough to make them completely revived, as that would weaken him greatly. Just enough to try and stabilize them.

Zach's body rejected the attempted infusion of life. She was dead and there was nothing anyone could do to change that, save a miracle. However, since there was no actual way for a mortal to create a miracle on their own Zach would have to settle for the next best thing.
Her body burst into flames.

Grey fell backwards, utterly surprised by the sudden burst of flames. "HOLY...!" He quickly got up to his feet and looked around for a fire extinguisher. Not seeing one within immediate view, he dived behind the counter and started searching for a large bottle of the least alcoholic beverage he could find.

Emma was still passed out on the floor, her powers rejecting Question's efforts.
Meanwhile, within the enchantress' mind, the emotional self-flagellation had begun.

When the flames finally died down there was nothing left except a pile of ashes where Zach and the couch used to be. The embers glowed softly on the floor of the tavern. They began to shift around slowly and then a tiny glowing light shone through the ashes and grew brighter and brighter.

Grey poked his head out from behind the counter, having found a large bottle of wine cooler. "Oh boy... this is gonna be a doozy to explain." He sighed and broke the neck of the wine cooler, drinking directly from the bottle. He plopped down in a chair next to Emma and put his right hand on her neck to feel for a pulse. He noticed the glowing and pondered whether or not it was leftover embers and if he should douse it with the wine cooler.

The glow cast strange shadow's on Emma's features as she stirred faintly, the power being released in the room prodding her unconscious mind.
Her heartbeat was regular, if a little slow.

The ashes had changed from the purest black to a shining red and gold before rising up from the ground to create the outline of a bird. Then the ashes blew away as if carried by the wind and left a body in its wake. A human-looking body with wings growing out of his back.
