I saw some Steampunkish stuff in some Doctor Who episodes, especially in one where (as I remember) some spider robots make a woman control a big airship and stuff.
Then I saw some Steampunk in Golden Compass movie, I still didnt know what the name of the style was, but for me it was like todays technology in 1800 covering and it semmed interesting for me. smile
Then I saw a steampunk dressed guy at an animecon in 2009 summer, he walked on stilts, had top hat, vest, and a steampunkish gun. I asked him what character did you dress like? He said: a steampunk guy. smile Then I searched on internet for steampunk and saw thats it, thats that style where there are brass, steam working, old-looking stuff and found both technology and fashion stuff looking interesting smile

For as much as I can recall, I believe it was the airships of the Final Fantasy series that started it all out for me. I'd also seen bits and pieces of steampunk over the years in various media, be it books, cartoons, webcomics, movies, but over time the the interest merged with my curiosity.

A few of the sources that come to mind are Howl's Moving Castle, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Dr Steel, Wild Wild West, Girl Genius, Treasure Planet, Skies of Arcadia and Steamboy, to name a few.

I was tampering into the Neo-victorian style, and ended up coming across Steampunk, and have been there since. xd

when the air kracken attacked the family airship. i was never quite the same after that day... maybe the boiler/heart transplant had something to do with it too.
I was already the kind of person into making things from victorian-looking, kitschy antique things and making coats and finding corsets, top & derby hats... i just hopped on the internet one day to find that a bunch of other people were too.
