Trisha laughed at that. She had certainly never thought of anyone in her pack as royalty, especially not any of the Sucanti. "I am of the Sucanti, the police of the werewolves and their protector," she explained, pointing at the tatoo she bore that marked her as one of their ranks. "We came to you that night because you knew a little too much about our kind. We are in a constant war here, and many of our kind have been killed. The numbers that are left are sickening as to what they once were while our enemy only groes stronger. We already have enough threat from those who are our real enemies without adding humans to the equation. It is to much risk for one of your kind to know and spread it to the rest, causing a mass scare. We do not need humans to fear us again. It is why the others killed your family that night, but I tend to disagree with the others and so I let you go." "As for how I could stop the rest of the pack," she said falling to her latter questions now. "I hold a bit more respect within our pack as I am the alpha's cousin and her closest friend. She will listen to me if I talk to her."

Always good to know someone in high places…. It was more of a quote from her past than something Selyna was saying to Trisha. She stared off into space for a moment as she listened to the werewolf talk of her family’s death as damage control. They’d known just enough about werewolves to leave them be and go after vampires only. Now that was something she had extensive knowledge about, vampire ways and traits. Her only problem is they were never seen as readily as werewolves so she didn’t know what to look for. Her family had always kept her from those hunts, always leaving one of her brothers behind to protect her. That night her father had just found out information on a large nest of them and was going to rest up for the night and try and torch their place by day, sniping any that got out of the fire. Her youngest brother had been eager to go that night and do it. Maybe if they had…. They’d have been killed by the vampires… Selyna hadn’t realized she said the last part out loud, but the pain was clear in her face and body language as she relived that thought over and over in her mind. Telling herself that if they gone out on the hunt, or didn’t have such a big dinner, or turned left instead of right, that somehow she could be with her family, hunting vampires right now. But instead she sat with the only ally she had in the world, someone who wasn’t even human, but had treated her more humanely than anyone since she’d been to the orphanage.

Matthias sighed silently, and continued as the rear guard for the group. As they entered the small clearing that served as grounds for the slaughter fest (it was impossible to declare such a thing, a battlefield), his eyes continued to scan the area for trouble, wary for any unusual movement. The scents, the blood, the sweaty, steamy humans rent open, and the traces of vampiric flesh, were enough to drive a werewolf mad. Matthias could already feel adrenaline pumping, sharpening his senses, and putting him on edge, ready for a fight -- eager for a fight. He bounced lightly on the balls of his feet as he walked, occasionally scanning carcasses for useful items. He never found anything, but it was worth checking. He didn't want to rely solely on his hands and magic should a fight arise.
"It's dangerous to keep the child. He's marked for death, and his family is gone. To leave him in those poor orphanages would be torture as well; he'd have a better chance on the streets by himself." Matthias sighed, and looked away, ashamed by his sudden outburst. "But it's not my place to decide," he added quickly, scavenging another body so he had reason not to look up.

Dara looked at Matthias, aghast at the thought. It was but only a child... a child who had just witnessed his entire family torn away from him. Dara looked at the child again, as he was shaking in her arms.
"He's right, Alpha," Lion said. "He could only bring us trouble on the road. Besides, he's human. Everytime us wolves have tried to protect their kind they have stabbed us in the back."
"Ya, Dara," Cane agreed. "We don't need a snot nosed brat coming along to drag us down, anyway."
Dara looked horror struck at them before she stubbornly stood up with the child in her arms. "Men!" was her response as she clutched the child close to her and stalked away from the clearing, making it obvious that she was quite unwilling to give up the child in her arms. How could she? He was helpless, and didn't even have the strength of a wolf to aid him. Her consience would never allow her to leave such a being in need. "Don't listen to them, hun," she whispered to the boy. "I won't leave you out here to fend for yourself." The boy seamed to stop crying as hard as he heard her words, though he continued to shudder in her arms.
Lion followed quickly after her as he sighed. "Perhaps a less direct aproach may have been the safer bet..." he muttered as he slowly walked after her. "Hey, Matthias, we better catch up with her, before she falls off a cliff, carying that thing. She'd probably do it too, knowing her."
Cane was quick to follow, obvious worry on his face.
Trisha raised an eyebrow at Selyna's words. "Maybe if they had been able to kill the vampires?" she repeated the girls words as she tried to read her face. Something was obviously troubling the girl. Suddenly a thought occured to her and she had to ask the next question. "Selyna, why was your family so far into our world?"

It was difficult enough for Selyna to relive it everyday in her mind, but to have to tell it to someone out loud was something she'd never been able to do, mostly because no one would ever have believed her. Suddenly losing her appetite, she took a deep breath, tried to look at Trisha, but decided it would be better to just close her eyes and pretend she wasn't there. My mother... She... It was in our backyard, we were hanging out and they were fighting. We thought it was a person and a really big dog. Our mother told us to go inside... the "person" killed the dog, ....... and then our mother.... Then there were more "people" I don't know where they came from I was only five at the time, but........ my father tried so hard..... Later we figured it was a werewolf, not a dog. Figured if you were their enemy, you were on our side, which is why we never really tried to hide from you. We were partners in the same war... Then you.... The tears started flowing then, but there was no other reaction with it, making it seem that she'd cried so much in life she didn't even notice anymore. She opened her eyes and continued to stare at the table, not even wanting to see Trisha's face for fear that she may have the same satisfied look her father and brothers did after they killed a vampire.

Trisha listened to Selyna as she obviously relieved the events through her mind and her heart went out to the girl. There had been so many skirmishes between vampires and werewolves that there had been many human casualties within the process. The war was mainly between the two races, but both of them had a grudge against the humans that was as old as either of the two races could remember. Vampires were out to wipe every race other than their own off of the planet and return to their demon master's graces, holding it against the humans that they were even created. The wolves, having learned of the humans deciet after that battle millenia ago, had been fostering a deep distain for the humans who they had only wanted to protect. Now, though, when her story turned to that night, Trisha's heart went out to Selyna. They hadn't known that her family was trying to help rid the world of vampires, though it probably wouldn't have changed things. The Sucanti could have never taken the risk, and Trisha knew that more than anyone. Even if they had let the family go, the vampires were far more powerful than any band of humans and they would have killed the family within a months time. Trisha couldn't imagine, though, having her entire world ripped away so brutally, and hated herself for being born a wolf in that moment. She had had many people torn away from her, and had been in battle aside her father the night he had been killed, but there was always the pack where everyone was family, no matter what. That's what a pack was for now, to offer comfort and a home to the wolves. But Selyna didn't have that to fall back on. The Sucanti had torn it all away from her. Trisha's heart filled with sympathetic pain as she saw the girl's tears trail down her cheeks. "I am so sorry, Selyna," she whispered, and drew her knees up to her body, hugging them close as she sat in the chair. "We wolves have been forced into war for so long, we find ourselves more able to deal with loss. It is hard for us to imagine a world outside of our own, where death is an everyday occurance." Trisha sighed and let one leg fall back to touch the floor while she still clutched the other. "I wish I had known in the beggining what my fellow Sucanti were planning to do that night," she said. "I would have faught tooth and nail to have made sure it never happened, had I known."

Making no move to wipe away the tears, Selyna shrugged and laughed it off. How could you have known? If we had, you think we would've been hanging around after dinner? She reached for another apple and, instead of devouring it like she'd done the others, kind of stared at it, like it was some new interesting discovery. Again she rubbed her hand over her forehead and back through her hair trying to get the loose strands out of her face, though when she dropped her hand to her thigh with a slight slap, most of the hair fell back to where it had been before. Taking a deep breath, Selyna stood slowly and made her way to the window, making sure to stand far enough back that the sunlight would block her from being seen from the outside. As if suddenly chilled, she brought both hands up to her arms and began rubbing them vigorously before stopping and just holding herself closely. So, do you go talk to your cousin alone? She turned and regarded Trisha over her shoulder. Or do I come with you to be killed? A slight smile appeared on her face after this comment, not because she was happy, but she'd again accepted her fate.

The vampire raised an eyebrow to the odd behavior of the werewolves below her. She let out a sigh when they didn't seem to notice her. Thank goodness, she thought. Looking at her hand she continued, I guess this stuff really works.
Though the werewolves had started off, Sesheta's feet were agitated in the cramped postion she put herself in. When she straightened too fast, her legs knotted up. With a curse, she fell out of the tree with a thud.
After contact with the gound, Sesheta let out a few more curses as she rubbed her legs. They were pins and needles, and no doubt a few bruises will adorn them later from her fall. She touched her head were she connected with the gound and winced. Nice bump, Sesheta, she scoulded herself as she looked for her fallen hat. Then on a lighter not she thought, At least it'll be a cool color when it stops hurting so much.

Trisha shifted uncomfortably in her seat at the question, and gave a nervous laugh. "Well, uh, actually..." she looked away from Selyna and stared at where her book had been left to lay, after she left the other night. "Actually, she's not in the city at the moment... though she'll probably make it back before the month is up. Actually, even that isn't certain..." She let her voice trail off before she became to uncomfortable to sit down any longer and stood up, stalking back and forth in front of the table. "I'm sure that if anyone finds you, they won't do anything without Dara's consent though," she said. "Almost positive."

Matthias stood up when Dara began to stalk away. So she had made her decision. It was a difficult one to make as well, but if she knew what her final choice was, he was going to support that. She was their leader not only for this mission, but their Alpha. He was already moving by the time Lion began speaking, and caught up with her first. He slowed his pace to match hers, and spoke quietly. "If you know for sure that you're willing to add the risk of this boy's life to our own risks, then you have my support. This isn't my decision to make, and I'm not going to hold a grudge of any sort simply because I disagree. I'm sure Lion shares my view on this, but I doubt that I can speak for Cane... Just know that I'm willing to help in any way possible."
He sighed softly, and turned his eyes to the boy, looking him over with curious and strong gaze, much like the way his father had once looked at him. He folded his arms over his chest, and looked away, greatly disliking the memories that were resurfacing. So he turned his gaze upward, toward the moon for a few seconds while he tried to empty his mind and calm himself.
He looked back to the boy. "I'm truly sorry for your loss, but there's nothing we can do..." He paused then, suddenly strike by an insane idea. He could be our ambassador. He could become the bridge between werewolves and humans, being a human raised among werewolves. He could see the brighter side (and, of course, the darker side) of both worlds. With a faint smile, he tucked the idea away for later, when he got the chance to speak to Dara one on one.

Dara nodded, glad to know she had some support. "Thank you," she said as she continued to clutch the boy close to her. He seemed so frightened. So weak as he clung to Dara with all his strength, as if she was the last thing he had to hold onto.
As Matthias spoke to the boy, the child looked to him, his eyes still streaming with tears. He didn't respond merely buried his face in Dara's hair as Matthias finnished speaking, his tears falling from his cheeks into Dara's hair.
Cane was silent as jealousy showed plain on his face as he took to following at the rear of the group. He stared at Dara, the child, and Matthias as if they were the soul ruin of his life.
Lion noticed Cane's dismal mood and laughed. "Cheer up, kid," he said, for that was certainly what Cane was, compared to the age Lion bore. "She's just being alpha."
"How so?" Cane growled, his arms crossed over his chest.
"It's in an alpha's nature to protect, it's what makes them such great leaders for a pack," Lion said. "She just wants to protect the child, not to mention, she wants..."
"What?" Cane demanded as Lions voice trailed off.
"Nothing," Lion said. "Just the ramblings of an old man."
Dara, oblivious to Lion and Cane as she knew they followed, looked to the child in her arms. "Do you have a name, hun?" she asked softly to the child.
She heard him mumble something into her shoulder, but she couldn't quite distinguish what he said. "Huh?" she asked, softly.
The boy raised his head and whispered to her. "I'm Ambrose," he said in a soft voice.
Dara smiled warmly at the name. "Well, Ambrose, we need to find a place to get you cleaned up," she said as even now, she felt the blood on him begining to dry on her own clothes. Listening hard, she heard a stream not to far away. "This way," she said to the others as she changed her course.
"Do you think we can keep him safe?" she asked Matthias as she began to feel the boy start to calm down a little in her arms, as his crying slowly subsided. She was already getting attached to him, and that scared her for he was human, and she a wolf. There was so much history between their two races.

Turning back around to the window, Selyna gave a short chuckle and said So basically you're saying I porbably won't get mauled and beaten to death before your cousins gets back, who may or may not order them to maul me? Dropping her arms to her side, she slumped back into the chair, one hand hanging down next to the floor, the other on the table, her fingers rubbing the grain of the wood back and forth. So.... What do I do until then? Any night clubs? It was said in jest to try and make light of the situation she was in, she couldn't reqally leave because they'd find her and kill her, if she stayed she just prolonged it. But as long as one's on my side, maybe it won't be so bad...

Sesheta looked around, taking in her surroundings on the ground. She sighed outloud. Good, she thought. My little stunt didn't give away my position. With a start, she stood up to get out of there.
White lights and a shearing pain swam into her mind. As quickly as she stood up she sat back down. She breathed deeply between her knees to try to calm down the nausiated feeling. "Not cool," she gasped quietly at her folly. The bump on her head was making her more dizzy, and it seemed to be worse than she originally thought. And I can't bring out any lotions from my pack for risk of the werewolves smelling it, she cursed silently.
The sick feeling subsided, but she was wary to try to stand again. The werewolves hadn't kept any of their kind around just in case the vampire came back. They all seemed a little lovestruck towards that woman, she thought up a reason. They certainly weren't thinking straight if they believe the vampire isn't still around.
With that thought, she cursed again. She didn't want to tangle with any vampire herself. They probably wouldn't recognize her, of course. Because the last time she was around vampires, she didn't look like a boy. But still, her scar could ruin her cover. I need to get out of here.
She grunted as she used the tree to push herself off the ground. "This isn't so bad," she said outloud. A slight white pain flashed across her eyes, but she ignored it. Now on her feet, Sesheta tried to remember the way the werewolves had gone. I'm already terrible at directions and I forget which way the enemy went! she thought, appaulled at herself. Another sigh escaped her lips as she decided on a way to go. Away from the sun, so she could be in the shade a little while longer.

Trisha smiled. "Nothing that would hide you from the rest of my kind," she said as she thought to what was in the city. "But aside from that, we wouldn't maul you. We are hardly ever in wolven form, unless it be the night of the full moon. That is the curse we bare for not protecting your kind ages ago. If one of us were to attack, it would most likely be within human form, and you wouldn't see it coming." She shrugged as she stated the truth. "But I heighly doubt Dara would ever order the Sucanti to attack you, or anyone else for that matter. While she's gone, the pack won't do anything to you, other than maybe keep you imprisoned, though I can't garantee that. Wolves dislike humans, now for their betrayal."

This caught Selyna's attention and she raised her eyebrow as she looked up from the doodles she was making on the table with the oil from her fingers. What betrayal? As we understood it, you did or didn't kill someone and they became a vampire. Souds like you betrayed someone, but that story has never sat well with me, though my family didn't care to find out where any of you or their kind came from. Everything was so cut and dry with them, they were the enemy, you were not. I think some human wanted to be like you guys and something went horribly wrong. She had no proof or substance behind her theory, but it sounded more plausible to her than someone spontaneously becoming a blood sucking fiend. Sitting at attention like she was in class she waited eagerly to hear what Trisha's reasoning behind all of this was. It had something to do with the vampires didn't it?
