The new series has indeed started: http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/s4/The first episode was fine… I guess… but Catherine Tate still grates on me, bigtime. evil I'm not sure if that's why I felt a bit disengaged while I was watching it. Only time will tell… rolleyes The premise of the story was good, I just felt the "action" was a bit drawn-out and rather wooden… but that may been the Catherine Tate Effect. stare It seemed to last much longer than 48 minutes… and not in a good way. There were some very nice touches, though, and I can only hope it gets better, as the series goes on. Oh, and we had a fleeting glimpse of Rose… which I don't really understand, and I'm not sure I like. confused

Yeah, there have been rumors & location pics about Rose coming back. I hope it isn't really her, because it would totally cheapen the end of series 2.
I've heard some people saying (with great surprise) that they found Donna actually made a good companion.
You joined the DWG didn't you, Alleira? You should come by & read Richard_Swift's Theme-o-Rama thread. smile Richard is in fact a co-author of one of the published novels & often does a bang-up job analyzing the themes that run through episodes and seasons. He's started off great with this thread.
This year the Sci-Fi Channel is only about 2 weeks behind you all getting us episodes! surprised I can't think when I've heard of a BBC program doing something like that before! Of course, we'll still have all those commercials chopping them up. :X

I just watched the second episode and… I don't… like… Donna. talk2hand She's like an irritant that you can't shake off… She's larger than life, as all of Catherine Tate's characters are… and not in a good way, either. I find her totally unsympathetic as a character, and totally unsuitable as a companion. Oh, this is going to be a difficult series to get through, I can tell… xp I find it difficult to concentrate on the good stuff, because Donna is so distracting and demands attention all the time.
I may come over to the DWG to see that thread, Eirwyn, it sounds interesting. 3nodding
That's great, that you're getting the new series so quickly! biggrin

You should post your views in the episode threads. I haven't ventured into the "Partners in Crime" or "Fires of Pompeii" threads yet because I don't want that much spoilerage, so I don't really know what percentage of the guild agrees with you.

Anyway, I did finally make it to the DWG… posted an intro, and I'll make sure to check in there, in future. It looks like a fun place. wink 3nodding

I couldn't watch last weeks one. My girlfriend was in Pompii while it was being aired. I had to close my eyes. My mother, in her usual wit, goes "That's still active now. Did you know that?"

How comforting. stare
Was there something odd at the tail-end of last night's credits? Some of the DWG are speculating wildly on what it meant.
They started DW on the Sci Fi Channel for this year last night--we got the Sarah Jane Adventures at 8:30 & DW at 9--starting off with "Voyage of the Damned".

I can't think of anything. Only that the Ood now totally love the Dr.

I can't remember anything odd at the end of the credits… but then I usually just miss things like that… whee
I like the series a lot, except for Catherine Tate being a total pain… *grumbles*

I didn't like her much in Partners in Crime, but she was pretty good in Fires of Pompeii & Planet of the Ood. I guess it helps that I never saw her other show. lol
I think I know what they were talking about now--the Ood say the Doctor's song is coming to an end, and you can hear, just for a second or two, the music from Rose's departure, like on that beach where she said good bye to him.

I think not having seen Ms Tate ever before might help… she grates on me, and I have been trying to like her… stare :XP:
And I do remember that… yes, it was rather cryptic, like a forewarning of some major change to come… I wonder what/how? I haven't heard any rumours of Mr Tennant moving on, so regeneration seems unlikely… but…?? ninja
