There's a German metal band (like seriously freakin' heavy metal) and instead of guitars, they use cellos!
I'm not kidding either.
It's the only time you will see someone headbang to a cello.

As far as pressing your fingers on the strings...violin's no different.
Fingers of iron. xD I use my hands for tons of things...including art...which has its share of calluses, too.

I do everyhting with my hands, Im one fo those people who do alot of things and have alot of things I like to do... most involving art.
