"Heh," Rand chuckled. "That looks better."
"Yeah...I was surprised as anything when he changed like that. He used to look a lot like Nikolai," Owle said, for the sake of filling the silence.

"Don't they all look that way in the beginning?" Jade questioned, looking to Owle as she calmly turned away from the window. "Androgynous beings from heaven or wherever it is they come from?"
The boy nodded his head and looked back to the Firebrand. He'd dragged Rand out there just for his shirt, though he hadn't really ment to cause any trouble for his friend.

"I mean, the way Nikolai looks now," Owle clarified. "Rand's hair used to be white, his eyes blue...and there was nothing like the wolf features in him now. The only difference between the way he looked and the way Nikolai does are the wings...Rand's were filled with brown and black feathers."
"Want to go back inside already?" Rand asked, following the direction of his look. "Race you!"

Grinning, Nikolai darted off towards the Firebrand as fast as his little legs could carry him. Then again, running on sand tired the boy out rather quickly, and with all the sand he was kicking up, getting it in his eyes didn't help any either. Rand had won the race before they even made it to the building with the sand stinging Nikolai's eyes. By the time he had stumbled inside he was nearly blind with tears welling up from under closed eyelids.
"Ahh, I see." Turning to see the pair as they entered inside, Jade looked rather surprised to see Nikolai rubbing at his face and just how sandy he had gotten in the two minutes he'd been outside. "Owle, do you have a damp cloth?" She asked, going to pick Nikolai up and try to see if she could see how much had gotten into her son's eyes.
