The X-Files started out kind of mediocre... I don't think they really hit their stride until a few seasons in (kind of like ST:TNG). But then it got kind of unfocused towards the end. I seem to remember losing interest when they revealed that the Cigarette Man was a rejected novelist that killed MLK and JFK (or something silly like that). Heroes should probably have been put on the poll, seeing as how it keeps getting mentioned around here lately. I'm sure the producers brought in Eccleston just to draw in the Whovians to the program. Incidentally, www.comicbookresources.com has a weekly article called 'Behind the Eclipse', where they interview the writers of Heroes about various aspects of the show. Here's the most recent one: http://www.comicbookresources.com/news/newsitem.cgi?id=9817

Hmm, well it was a bit of a toss-up between Battlestar Galactica and Firefly, since they both kick a**. And Blakes7 is pretty good for an old Sci-Fi. Star Trek is OK but I never really... got converted. I don't think I've seen many of the others. But yes, Firefly and Battlestar Galactica are very awesome.

Ahaha, I remember when I was really young, sneaking into the TV room at the forbidden hour of 8:30 and watching this episode of the X-files where there was this creature with tentacles that moved around in the plumbing...
I couldn't sleep at night because my room had an ensuite... and every time I needed to go past the laundry I had to run because I was THAT scared.
... Hey, I was really little...

I voted for Firefly, having been introduced to it a couple of years ago by a member of my old uni sci-fi society. Mal's sarcasm amuses me.
I also liked Buck Rogers when I was younger, though I haven't seen an ep in years. Extra bonus points go to that show for having Mel Blanc do the voice of Twiki. Does Knight Rider count as sci-fi? I want KITT biggrin I could never get into Battlestar Galactica, mainly because the Cylons were reminding me of KITT the whole time (gee I wonder why? wink ). This is the root of a perennial argument between me and a friend of mine: I say Dirk Benedict is and forever shall be Face from the A-Team, he says Starbuck...
I'm not a big fan of Trek's actual episodes, though I have a load of the books. I also have a ton of Quantum Leap books, though again I haven't seen an episode in ages. They keep rerunning them on ITV3 while I'm out.

I voted Babylon 5 as there were a couple of months about a year ago when I watched nothing else. This was when the episodes were just coming out on DVD. My parents used to watch the ones we had on tape every so often, so I've liked it for awhile, but for some reason I got totally obsessive about it all of a sudden in my last year of highschool.
I love the characters and I would argue that the story-arc design is yet to be beaten by any sci fi show, even Doctor Who.
I also love how each race represents a country, eg. Earth appears to be America and the Centauri are Britain/France! (I love how dishevelled they are after their empire collapses...)

Ack. I like quite a few of those, about equally. gonk But as I have to choose, I'll say Star Trek due to it being...something. There's something about it that makes me watch and enjoy it, even though it's a bit rubbish really. It's the something that makes it my favourite. Babylon 5 is second, because it is very good as a TV show, but only has a half-something compared to Star Trek's whole-something. A close second. The rest(Farscape, Firefly, others not listed) are third-equal.

Buck Rogers... wow, that is a blast from the past. I remember Twiki used to make that "bidi-bidi-bidi" noise before he spoke. What was that... robot stuttering? Did they transplant Porky Pig's brain in Twiki's head? confused While I'm on the subject of cartoons and science fiction... bow down and worship Gilligans Planet!!! ((shoot me now... gonk ))

I'd forgotten it was so old. I was 9 when it started. I remember watching the movie too and being confused when there were different people in the series. And I remember the joy of finding Stargate videos for £1 in The More Store. The More Store's gone now too... *sob*

I'll tell you what's REALLY scary....Filmation is the company that did the Animated Star Trek back in the '70's, which actually wasn't bad--but mostly because Roddenberry was keeping them from messing it up! He used to tell about that series how Filmation wanted to stick cute little junior space cadets in the show & all kinds of garbage. gonk Just imagine what Filmation MIGHT have done to ST... burning_eyes Actually I think after ST they realized there was a market for a straight adventure show or movie adaptation series because they did several others after ST, like Tarzan, Lone Ranger & Flash Gordon. They gradually slid back into their old goofy junk, though.

I'm gonna just stick with Heroes, thanks. mrgreen mrgreen I read more science fiction than I do watching TV sci-fi. Although the Back to the Future series is really good/funny/random, I've only finally gotten a decent chance to sit down and watch it. 3nodding sweatdrop But then again, that's a movie (series), not television....

You mean like a mob of Wesley Crushers?! gonk I wonder who'd win a death match between Wesley and Adric.

How long has the question of the week been this question? Two weeks? Don't tell me that the weekly question thread is like a Time Lord and we only get thirteen incarnations of it... After all, the Doctor's going to just live forever. I swear. Cross my heart. Thirteen'll get offed and then he'll regenerate and be just as surprised as anyone else.
Actually, does this mean someone has to suggest one, or it'll stay this forever? 'Cos I don't like this one. xp I read sci-fi, but as for watching it, just "Dr Who", "Heroes", and "Futurama." blaugh
Favorite movie genre, perhaps? Movies are always fun.
