Nervously shifting from foot to foot, Gabriel tried to calm himself. This was his second chance, and he didn't want to be humiliated by being left standing again. He still remembered the last time... He shook his head to clear such thoughts. That time is over. This is now. He looked up as a girl almost ran into him, and held out a hand to steady her. "Careful. You OK now?"

Just then, a little blue stopped right before him and a few other guys, and sat on the hot sand looking them over. Apparantly unsatisfied, the hatchling climbed back to his feet and wandered off again.

Daring to be hopeful, Gabriel steadied his gaze on a young bronze who seemed to have gotten lost. He watched as the little one realized it's mistake and turned back toward the Candidates. Heart pounding loud enough to be heard all the way back in Fort Weyr, he watched the dragonet's every move.

Sighing as the little green ignores her, she notices the blue wandering around, passing by all the boys. I thought boy's always Impressed the blues.... Maybe he's looking for me!! Nah, the chances of that happening are next to none, even though it'd be wonderful to Impress the blue...

Feather stood, entranced once again by the sight of dragons breaking free of their shells. They didn't seem to be having much trouble-- none of them had tripped, fallen, or injured themselves. She smiled encouragingly at the newly-hatched. This was more like it! There had been a few at Fort that had needed help...

Her thoughts were interrupted by a little green walking past her, to a boy who had just entered. Wondering is she should have done something to try to attract the green's attention, she decided that it probably wouldn't have been a good idea. That one seemed to know who she wanted, and Feather would only have been in the way.

Looking over the other hatchlings, she noticed a bronze turning away from some of the older dragons. What was he doing all the way over there? Silly little thing... She turned at a noise nearby. There was a blue dragonet getting to his feet not far from her. She saw, just beyond him, a green trying to balance herself. At first Feather thought that there was something wrong with the green's hide, until she realized that it was just sand clinging to the dracling.

Nervous, hopeful, and excited, Feather stood watching them.

The first-hatched green lets out a shriek as she notices some nearby candidates. She had been so busy getting used to the world that she forgot that the person she needed was so close. Shaking some of the sand from her hide--but not all of it--she stumbled toward Feather and caught her claws in the girl's robe. It's you!

The blue hurries to get out of the green's way and crashes into Niko. Trying to right himself but tangled in her robe, he nearly claws her legs but somehow misses. Finally getting himself situatied, the blue shakes his head to clear it and looks at the obstacle which just caused his discomfort. Well there you are! he says to Niko somewhat indigantly. I've been looking for you!

The bronze makes his way back to where he'd first started, near the broken pieces of his own egg. He nears Boryanor and Gabriel and his eyes begin whirring. One of these was his. But which one? They were both ... good. Undecided, he stops, tail twitching.

Playfully, his brother brown pounces on the bronze's tail. The bronze yelps and trying to turn to snap at the brown, topples instead. Refusing to let go of his prize, the brown is yanked off his feet, and the two hatchlings tangle.

With nearly all eyes on the hatchlings, few notice that the tiny eggs are still twitching.

((Boryanor, Gabriel, you can try to separate the two. Carefully. They aren't hurting each other yet, but they are quite uncomfortable.))

Niko is startled as she is tackled, and she falls on the hot floor of the Hatching Sands. Her eyes widen in astonishment, then surprise, and then happiness. I Impressed! She thinks in happy astonishment. A little voice suddenly sounds off in her head.

Of course you Impressed, silly! Otherwise I wouldn't be standing right here! The blue says in her mind, standing back on his haunches and looking at Niko, head tilted to the side and eyes whirling a gentle green. Oh, and my name is Gyomanth, and you are my rider!

Niko smiles widely, so happy that she feels as if her heart could burst. And you are my dragon, Gyomanth! She thinks back to him excitedly.

T'thia watched quite a few of the candidates impress but her breath was caught short as she notices the tangle with the bronze and the brown in front of the two boys

"they'll kill eachother if they don't get them apart!"

they're fine mine, those boys will get them seperated just fine and most likley impress too

reasured by her bronze's words T'thia relaxed slightly but still watched the whole hatching with nervouse anticipation as if she were back at her own hatching standing down there on the hot sands watching the queen egg when her bronze bumped into her and locked her eyes. T'thia smiled at the memories they were still so fresh though it had been nearly half a turn since she impressed and was privilaged to be here and watch it happen all over again.

Niko laughs. "He says his name is Gyomanth!"

Niko, I'm hungry!! The blue creels loudly.

Niko smiles widely again, and quickly looks around for any bowls of meat to feed her hatchling. Niko turns to a nearby dragon-rider. "Where're the meat bowls?" It happens to be T'thia. "Gyomanth's hungry...!"

With an abrupt lurch, an egg topples and splits, revealing another blue. After shedding most of his egg fragments, he rests in the sand to catch his breath.

T'thia broke from the trance of the hatching and smirked to herself

"guess it's my turn to guide the wyrelings off the sands"

t'thia quickly disembarked from the stands and stepped onto the sands to stand next to the girl known as Niko

"he's a fine blue. fallow me"

she walked with the pair over to the table set with the bowls of meat for the new dragonets. she stood next to the table watching the others impress waiting for her next duty to escort a pair off the sands

Kevat drops to the sands infront of the green, his eyes wide in amazement. "you found me?" He reaches out and embraces the green, giving her a hug.
You were late!
"I....I'm sorry..." he stammers, his fingers runing over the greens eye ridges.
My name is Preyasith. I am hungry.
"Preyasith....I am Kevat, or K'vat now I guess....we'll go get you something to eat."

Teal jumped with excitement at the three first impressions. Teal excitedly sent more images back to Nevaeh and Javareth who were back at Fort still. Most of his excitement was for the little blue had impressed to Niko a girl just as Nevaeh and Javareth were. It was one of his most favorite things to see. A blue dragon and a female rider. He was a blue and he really loved blue dragons he had many friends that were blues flits and dragons.

T'thia stepped back onto the sands and quickly strode towards K'vat and his new lifepartner. she motioned for them to fallow her as she escorted the new pair off the sands looking at the others who had impressed and motioning them to fallow

"newly impressed wyrelings please fallow me, your dragonet will need food right away"

she escorted the pairs over to the table where she had left Niko and her blue and motioned towards the preset bowls of raw meat and told instructed them on how to feed their dragonets

"don't give them too big of a piece and make sure they don't eat too fast or too much"

::Myyth looked about the sands, all the dragonets seemed to know who they wanted and most of the other candidates had already impressed. But she could still feel a slight pull on her mind. ::

The small eggs.........I can see that one rocking a bit. Why hasn't it hatched? Its not a dud if the dragonette is alive and kicking. Is anyone going to help it? Do they even do that?

::Myyth tried to stand still but her distress over the small egg grew with each second. The egg continued to rock, but its movements seemed to be comeing slower and less frequent ever minute.::

I need to do something. NOW, the egg can't wait any longer.

::With a last look at those attending the hatching Myyth walked quickly accross the sands. She pulled her belt knife out as she walked.::

The one with the pearly shell, its the one I think. Why do I think that? I must be nuts to try this.......

::Looking about the sand Myyth noticed surprised looks forming on the faces of many of the people attending the hatching. She sped up to a quick jog, even thought she was too far away from the people to be caught before she got to the eggs::

The dragons could still stop me.......... but they should understand what I'm doing, even if the people don't.

::Reaching the eggs she knelt down and and turned the pearly, almost smoky colored one toward herself. Myyth hit the egg once, with the handel of her belt knife. It didn't even dent the egg. With a frustrated sound Myyth hit the egg again, far harder and was pleased to see a hole surounded by cracks form in the egg::

T'thia watched a girl run towards the smaller eggs and crack one of them open her eyes nearly popped out of her head

"Riz is she nuts?! she could kill that dragonet! and herself!"

her eyes shot towards the queen and then back at the egg she was worried Wrath might kill her.

that's not right mine! she shouldn't do that!

Arizath sounded distressed and he broke from the usual hum of the dragon and screeched with his distress at the girl cracking the egg. the Bronze watched the queen dragon as well preparing himself incase he needed to protect the candidate from the queen.

Wrath croons abruptly, a strange break in her humming, and Ray's head whips around trying to find the source of another new noise on the sands, a banging or something.

Myyth, that polite young candidate girl, is using a belt knife on an egg! She begins to walk toward the girl, but is stopped by Wrath's tail.

It is a good thing. The dragon sounds completely confident. Serene, even.

"But it's not done that way!" Ray exclaims.

It is a good thing, Wrath repeated. Stay back and let it happen as it happens.

Shifting her weight anxiously, Ray has her doubts, but stands, watching helplessly as Myyth continued breaking into the egg.

With a final crack, a large hole is made in the egg and a feeble-looking dragon flops out, struggling weakly. It's a green, only slightly larger than an adult queen flit, and she seems to be alive.

Gasping for air, the tiny green manages to crawl the rest of the way out of her shell, then rests, panting. She turns her head toward the girl who helped her. I thought you wouldn't come. Thank you.

The green's shading is a bit off, as though there was an extra color to her hide, and Ray glances suspiciously at Wrath. "Did I just see what I thought I saw?" The bronzy Gold blinks at her rider innocently.

No. She is a green to the core, not a queen in disguise. She is merely grey with hunger and weakness, and should resume a more normal tone when fed and rested.
