Grinning his own approval of Casey's confectionary creation, Tristan went about making sure everything was as it had been before they had arrived.

"Aye, 'tis ready. W'uld you like that for 'ere or to go sir?" Tristan replied, once more donning his collection of accents. Having finished cleaning up, He packed all of the containers into a cloth bag procured from somewhere inside his volumous coat and readied himself to head out.

Casey looked worriedly at Malic. "Are you okay?" she asked cautiously.
"Gosh! I was worried you were going to choke to death... or have a hernia, and all you can say is, 'If I ever have sudden cravings for cheese, I'll let you know.'"Casey rolled her eyes, chuckling.

Casey nodded her head. "It was awfully good. D'ya mind if I have some too?" She asked. "I think I saw some styrafoam bowls in the cupboard."

Casey grabbed the boxes of crackers, the cheeseball and platter, and a pitcher that looked like it contained red coolaid. She also grabbed a stack of styrofoam cups, and she sat all but the platter of cheese and cheeseball and the drink in the bag.

"Aww didn't think you cared." He replied to Casey with a grin. "I've never let a little thing like choking put me off food."

Malic looked at the pair of them packing up. "I believe it would have to be eaten out, my good... man." A slight hesitance and one regretted immediately. He was- is a person, a human being forced to change into something else. No matter claws, beak or scales, Malic had to keep telling himself that he shouldn't think of them differently, he'll be in the same boat soon enough. A depressing thought, but he was suffering through something equal, if not worse then that.

He helped Casey swiftly for she looked like she was going to drop something. "Hoping to sprout another pair of hands?" A rhetorical question his mother always asked him and his brothers. Homesickness lingered at the edge of his senses until he realised it wasn't the best thing to say here. "Sorry, something my mum used to say a lot."

"Hoping to sprout another pair of hands?"

A grim look fell upon Casey's face. Suddenly lost of words, she sadly looked down at the ground. She shook her head down-heartedly. "No... not really. I'd much rather be turned into somthing less..." She trailed off. A long pause of nerve-wreaking silence before she spoke again. "I... I'm just going to pray they've given me somthing remotely... bearable..." She rubbed her neck. "I... I hope the same for the both of you as well..."

Her throat stung, and it was hard to swallow. Every time she tried to occupy her mind in order to cease such thoughts, someone or somthing came which would force her to aknowledge the harsh realization again. She shook her head before walking out the door, leaving the two still in the kitchen.

She stood outside, staring at the navy sky. "Why?" She muttered, her face looked worn. "Its not fair. Why? Why me? Why anyone? What kind of corrupt person would do this? Its... Its sick and wrong..." She kicked the nearest tree angrily. Tears trickled from the courners of her eyes, running down her face and falling lightly into the gravel. "Am I condemned to this island forever? Is there no hope for any of us? I'd rather die than... then..."
She began sobbing, heartbroaken. "Why me?"

"th're's more than enough for everyone, ' was planning on taking some back with me, but 'ts better fresh"

Noticing (just barely) Malic's hesitation and wording Tristan was about to reply when Malic droped the bomb: "Hoping to sprout anouther pair of hands?" As the grim look overtook Casey, Tristan responded to the offending comment, scolding Malic "It would be best if you kept comments such as that to yourself, as this is no the place for them. The last thing any of us want is to give the "Gud Doktor" any more ideas than he's already had."

Going over to Casey, he proceeded to attempt to cheer her up " Dont worry bout it right now, things will work out. They always do, you just have to be patient. Also, as long as Aubrey is there, not all is lost."

Giving her a pat on the sholder, he finally declared "Come now you two! lets get back before the fire burns itself out!"

Casey pouted. "Work out? I don't see anything even remotely optomistic about being turned into monsters... Do you really think there is any light at the end of this tunnel? Whats Aubrey supposed to do? Wave a magic wand and suddenly this never happened?" Casey sighed heavily. "Nothing can stop this inhumane act. Its like a rollercoater. Once it starts going theres no turning back. We're stuck like this and theres nothing anyone can do about it." She picked the cheeseball and crackers.

"All we can do is wait and enjoy our last days as men..." She paused, her face screwing up. "-And women..." She quickly corrected herself. With a dirty palm she wiped the tears, smudging dirt across her cheekbones.

He couldn't look at her, even before she said anything, he wished he could take back what he said a hundred times over. "Yeah..." He sighed. "... Sorry... " He muttered in reply. Nothing else could be said to make it better, they were stuck. That was the reality and they were going to turn into some animal. Mammal for the lucky ones, bird and reptile for the not so lucky and insect for the buggered. He didn't know yet that plant was on the list.

Malic put his head in his hands in dismay. This is almost how he felt everyday since before he arrived on this island. Tiptoing around the mention of death when his dad was alive, slowing dying from an un curable disease. Then himself struck with the same disease. He'd learnt to cope, to joke about it. He even thought about taking up smoking just to break the taboo surrounding it. Not everyone had that same humour, he knew, some days he didn't either. He heard Tristan's scolding and nodded apologetically.

"Way to lighten the mood, Malic." He said in a low angry tone as he was left alone in the canteen. He lifted his head as Tristan called to get a move on and let out that sigh once more while picking up a few packets of snacks.

"You signed up for this, you wanted to be cured no matter what. The others were probably told some other lie, but you had a chose and asked no questions." Malic told himself firmly while standing at the doorway and staring at the clean, stainless steel kitchen. "If they told you what it meant giving up, your humanity, would you have still gone through with it?" Lines appeared on his brow while grey eyes followed his chin downwards. Grains of sand was the only indication anyone had been in here that night.

A click and the world was swallowed into darkness. "Maybe." A whisper then footsteps as the man walked towards the waiting pair, a grim smile pasted on his face that faultered upon seeing Casey's tears.

"Sorry." A word that he foresaw would be an integral part of his vocabulary hung akwardly in the air.

"Sorry."

That word hung in the air, earily echoing in her head. What happened? Just moments ago the world was filled with laughter and happiness, then suddenly some forboding cloud of poisonous feelings and heavy despair... Words which were ment in a friendly matter tainted with bittersweet irony...

Casey walked slowly over to Malic, and put her hand on his shoulder. "I should be the one who's sorry. I'm the one who over reacted. You ment kindly... I'm just... I'm just a little emotional right now..." She said as she tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear. "Whats said is said and whats done is done. Lets just forget this happened. ... Will you forgive me?"

The silence between them seemed to stretch for an enternity, at first Malic thought she wasn't going to speak to him ever again until she came over and touched his shoulder.

He gave a sheepish smile at her last question, 'Will you forgive me?' then nodded. "As long as you accept my apology, I should've put my brain into gear before my mouth. It was thoughtless of me regardless." The smile broadened and he looked at Tristan. "Let's go then."

Casey nodded in agreement. She tapped Tristans shoulder and ran, yelling a playful "Tag- your it!" over her shoulder. She followed the gravel path untill it reached her duplex. She stopped to catch her breath, kneeled over with a grin on her face. "My house is safe!" She yelled into the air between heavy breaths, tiredly giggling afterwards.

She dug her hand into her pocket and fumbled around for the keys. Jagged points met her fingers and she extracted the shiney bit of metal.

She looked up in displeasure. She was the second floor up. A grim giggle left her mouth. "I swear... If I turn into a snake, It'll be heck to pay."

Malic didn't run quite as fast, more of a jog as he figured with the armour Tristan had would slow him down.

"Unless it's a rare stair climbing snake." He added helpfully over her shoulder. "It has legs." He sounded quiet serious, but a grin threatened to appear at the edge of his lips.

He waited at the bottom of the stairs wondering if Tristan decided to head to the bonfire alone.

Although Tristan wasnt quite as fast as the other two, he had explored the area, and knew of a couple short cuts. When the they raced off, he followed along his own path, making it to a tree just outside the house as Malic reached the bottom steps.

Climbing up the tree for his own amusement, he found a spot to sit down and watch the procedings from ahigh. Noticing as malic began to mill about, he finally called out "Ahoy there!" Grinning madly the whole time.

Casey rolled her eyes in a friendly way. "Oh yes... I feel much better now." She laughed, the vivid image of a snake with legs slinking into her thoughts. "Ahoy there" Casey looked up, spotting Tristan in the tree. "What the cow? Hey, Tristan. Hows the weather up there? ... erm... May I ask how long you've been up there?"

She grinned, climbing up the stairs untill she was about level with him. "Carefull. Broke my arm when I was younger, climbing in my cousens appletree. The bone ripped clear through my flesh. Not fun." She said, tapping a faint scar across the underside of her forearm.

She unlocked her duplex and walked lightly in. It wasn't exactly a pig sty but rather unorganized. A small pastel mural colored one wall and there were drawings and doodles here and there. The table was covered in papers and a empty guitar case laid on the floor.

She rummaged through the papers, eventually finding several bars of chocolate and a half-smashed box of teddygrams. "Come on in... Sorry 'bout the mess." She called, shoving the smore makings into her hoodie pocket.

"The weather up 'ere is a beautiful 28c, with 'hundred 'cent chance of leaves!"
Tristan then proceeded to clamber down from the tree, still wearing his mad grin.

"Aye, definately something to be carefull of"

As he finally reached the inside of the duplex, Tristan starting practically devouring the room with his eyes. Investigating everything from a distance, he found the mural especially curious and propmtly stated just that.
