Delmar_Denban Bahvanta Too lighten the tone a bit I did it 3nodding I graded to 4th kup blue belt in taekwondo! and got such a buzz doing it! It was quite hard going which really adds to the satisfaction of passing! I got 6 off an A grade - lost out during the sparring set..I really need more confidence...I look at where the attacks coming from instead of focusing on one area of the opponent from which u can see where and when the attacks are coming. We got grilled on the theory side of things and i did great! the line work was hard going. we did lots of patterns. and lots of power tests too be continued as have discovered am late for work! Well done mate! thankyou xp Finally I have working gaia again!

Congrats! smile
I think my dojo has us wait a certain period of time before our next promotion too, but everyone's promotions take at least double that time so no one keeps track anymore.

I know for ours now, it is at least 36 classes in between, but often more, depending on how fast a learner that person is. Also we have a rule that you cannot grade more than 2 times a year. But really, it's all gauged by the sensei's

Bahvanta Lunaries Delmar_Denban Do you have a 6 month wait now for your red tag grading? Is that the general training period before a student is ready for the next test? What you have to consider is that our instructor teaches twice a week in three different towns, so its possible for some people (like bahv) to train three times more often than others. So the rules tend to be up to 5th kup at least three months worth of lessons and after 5th kup at least six months worth of lessons. What tends to happen in practise is our instructor holds a grading every 4-6 months and if you have enough lessons and more importantly your standard is up to scratch you grade. So you can end up doing silly amounts of lessons per grade, for example bahv did in excess of 70 before her last grading when in theory all she needed was 24. But the lesson count is just more of a minimum requirement sort of thing, the standard is whats important. Having said that I know for a fact that she was ready to grade well before she did, was just my instructor being lazy and not organizing a grading for ages...

Just thought I'd add a note about something here.
Jet Li (someone I have alot of respect for) was caught in the great tsunami and here is what he said in his interview (as shown in the great tsunami relief concert in Hong Kong):
When the first wave came, he was near the beach with his daughter and his daughters' nanny by his side, his wife and his other daughter a bit ways away. When the water started rushing in, he picked up his daughter in one arm, hooked his other arm around the nanny. The water rose to his chest already by that time (him being not that tall) and for a moment he contemplated letting go of the nanny to take care of his wife and other daughter. But he didn't and in the end, his entire family made it through safe.
He is donating 1 million dollars for tsunami relief.
