Name: Felisse
rank: purple belt-Aikido
weapons learned: n/a

I haven't been on the martial arts scene for too long, but I'd love to pursue shorinji kempo and kempo jujitsu.

I've never heard of purple belts in traditional aikido.
Hate to break it to you, but either you sensei is a phoney, or he's making up his own system under the name of aikido.

After that, know that shorinji kenpo is a form of boxing derived from a zen buddhism sect and kenpo jujitsu is not a style I've ever heard of and sounds strange as well.

Then again, few people ever hear of Yoseikan bajutsu. Yet it is a traditional samurai art.

ah well, maybe I'm just seeing things.
Welcome to the club.

Most like she trains here in the states and the instructor had to "add" some belt colors. The main reason for so many belt colors in many styles is to give the students more goals to work for and a better impression that they are advancing.

Dang western thinking. xp confused

Yes. They even started giving belts for kung fu. =_=
And that while the whole grades system belongs to a country that has been at war with China for centuries.

Americans should diss that sense of superficiality and stop thinking in terms of belts.

I'd rather be a white belt, worthy of a black belt, than a black belt unworthy of my status.

Hmmm..my senseis aren't phony and there are actually purple belts in Aikido. The schools here don't use traditional methods of advancement. Other Aikido schools on Guam actually have orange belts.

Kenpo Jujitsu is a real art. We have one school on Guam.

that ^^ should explain it better.
I actually hadn't heard of this one until recently, so I know very little about it.
