((I am proud to announce that my five-day YYH marathon is over and I have officially finished the series. Though now I don't know what to do with my days. D: ))

Hiei awoke facing the window. The sunlight shining through was warm on his face, and he had to blink at the brightness. Though he didn't recognize the window, the softness beneath him, or the body heat next to him.

In a quick, panicked flash, he was on his feet, facing the bed with his hand on the hilt of his katana. He immediately relaxed, seeing it was just Kurama. He now remembered where he was.

"Damn it," he muttered. He had hoped the ordeal was a dream.

((I haven't seen Yu Yu Hakusho in quite a while, I've only read a few fanfics. As for my days... one word: school.))

The movement woke the fox from his half-asleep state. His eyes fluttered open gently as he sat up.

Hiei was the first thing he saw, looking ready to fight before he calmed. This was understood, considering the events. Him moving the Koorime to lay beside him probably hadn't helped, either.

"Did you sleep well?" Kurama asked softly, not wanting to simply say 'good morning,' since that wouldn't go over well. All he would recieve was a sarcastic comment about being trapped in a castle with a psychotic demon b***h.

He tried in vain to use his fingers to comb his hair. While he couldn't see himself in a mirror, he knew his hair was a mess.

((I found a website with all the episodes. Ugh, I don't want school to start soon.))

Hiei narrowed his eyes and straightened his stance. He would've hissed something about being in the bed, but at the moment he didn't feel like it. Instead he answered Kurama's question with a simple 'tch,' looking away sharply and smoothing his clothes out in places.

He watched the fox try to fix his hair for a moment before he decided to speak. "I don't know about you, but this room has lost it's interest."

Translation: Let's look around because I really, really want the psychic to die and doing something else will keep me from making that happen.

((Which site? As for school, I don't mind it. The worst part is less internet time.))

It wasn't difficult for the kitsune to figure what he meant. This room did not bother him, though it had lost it's interest, as Hiei put it.

What did bother him? Not being able to follow his normal morning routine, which he had gotten very used to, even fond of. This meant no food, no shower, none of that kind of thing.

Well, on second thought, with food they might be able to manage. Kasai had mentioned that they had free reign of the kitchen, and he doubted that she would poison all of her food. Convincing the Koorime of that would be another story, though.

"I suppose we could fix something to eat," Kurama suggested, rising from the soft bed and stretching a bit. A good thing is that he had slept well, able to feel... safe enough, with Hiei around.

(( Here! Yeah, I'm the same way. I like school, but it's just the homework and less time for the computer.))

Hiei did not give a solid answer regarding food. He simply gave Kurama a look and waited at the door. He almost smirked at how the fox stretched, though. Obviously he wasn't the only one who had slept well.

In truth, he didn't remember much about falling asleep. Kurama had teased him, then Hiei decided he would try to doze off, which had turned into actual sleep. Then something about a mouse. Maybe that had been part of a dream.

((Awesome! And yeah, I'm exactly the same way.))

Sensing his impatience, Kurama wasted no time in leaving the room, silently giving a 'come on' with a tug of his sleeve.

Rather than go downstairs first, he decided that they should explore the upper levels. Surely there would be something of interest.

Hiei responded to the tug with a blink, but he followed without delay. He remembered the way they were supposed to go, and glanced at the fox when he did not lead them in that direction. It wasn't hard to figure that Kurama wanted to look around some more. Hiei was curious as well.

As customary, he remained quiet, not voicing any of his thoughts. Though there was a design on the wall that caught his interest and made him stop walking. He stared at it, eyes not wide, but dark; entranced yet alert. To him, the shaded curves and turns reached out, hooking onto his clothes and skin, pulling...

At the time, the youkai could not think of an appropriate word to describe it.

((Homigosh. Hiei on an acid trip. xD))

The designs stood out to him, as well. They had a... hypnotic quality. But that wasn't hard to believe, considering the owner was a psychic. Normally, such would aid in mind control. Maybe that was her plan?

Seeing that Hiei had stopped, the fox did the same. He knew what the cause was, but wasn't sure what to do. Well, maybe talking would snap him out of it? "Hiei? Is something the matter?"

At the end of the hall, there was a spiral staircase. Something drew him to it, but the tower it lead to seemed... dark, like maybe that was where their hostess spent her time. There was a lingering bit of her power, but the rest was outside, probably meaning she was going for a walk or such.

Kurama's judgement told him to stay away, but he felt his curiousity might end up getting the better of him. If that was her room, they might find some answers. Or at least some minor clues.

((xDDD))

Kurama's voice helped Hiei break from his odd daze. He seemed to start somewhat, taking an uneven step away and snapping his head in Kurama's direction. He stared a few moments, the same dark, thoughful quality in his eyes. Then he closed them.

"No," he said, and opened them. He walked ahead of Kurama now, looking at the staircase. Interest and curiosity collected in him, but he was wise enough to delay entering until the fox was at his side.

"Did she not imply that we were guests?"

Kurama reminded himself to definitely not look into the pattern, lest he become entranced. The jaganshi was strong of mind, yet even he stared, only looking away when the fox spoke.

"I believe she did," the red-head agreed, catching up with him. The curiosity in his expression was quite obvious, making him wonder if the designs weakened his normal facade.

He paid Hiei a quick glance before he began ascending the steps.

Hiei was never fond of spiral staircases. They might be practical, but he disliked having to turn slightly every so often when going up or down them. Well, stairs in general he did not like. Step up, up, up or down, down, down. It was somehow dull. Unless, of course, he was running.

He decided that if this was meant for his own entertainment, then he wouldn't be trapped against his will. Then he found another reason to dislike spiral staircases. Often they were narrow, and he could no longer avoid coming in contact with the fox every few steps. Before he hadn't notice the accidental brushes, but now he was aware and somehow felt it would be an annoying sensation to the other—a brush, rub or graze of the arm. But there wasn't much he could do, unless he could suddenly flatten against the wall.

Quite contrary to what Hiei thought, he didn't mind the touches at all, but was well aware of them. He happened to enjoy any contact they made, even if it meant nothing, as was normal.

The room they soon came to was... slightly different than the rest of the castle. It had a strong 'gothic' elegance. Mostly black furniture, accented with burgundy. It was dimly lit by candles, all matching the scheme by having black wax and colored flame.

One thing stood out about the flame, that her aura radiated off of it. So either it was a spell, or she had at least some fire demon in her. One thing learned.

Another thing that stood out were the mounted shelves covered in books. The titles varied quite a bit; certain ones of history, others of science, some of psychic techniques, and even a few cookbooks. Of course, there were also ones for pure entertainment. He got the feeling that she read often to pass time.

Other aspects of the room were slightly less obvious. The needlessly large bed, the few vases of roses, an excessively large closet, and weapons on the walls. There was also a balcony that overlooked much of the castle's grounds.

Certain things caused the kitsune to admit she had some taste.

Hiei hadn't really been expecting anything different in Kasai's room. The darkness of it all was a slight surprise. He took light steps to a candle, cupping his hand over the fire and taking some pleasure in the feeling. The light made his eyes shine differently, as if they were simple orbs of red.

Black wasn't always an inviting color, so he respected the furniture and did not touch any. He saw the books too.

"She has a lot of time," Hiei stated, tracing a finger along spine of a thick book. He wasn't sure why he decided to share that obvious fact. But having a lot of time certainly supported the idea that there was much more to their stay than a child.

Kurama took the time to examine every detail, hoping to get a better feel of the kind of person she was. Knowing such could prove very useful, though he wasn't interested in her, personally. Escape is what he was seeking, though he had accepted it may take quite a while.

"I can tell, Hiei..." he trailed off, his voice having an almost echo-like quality. The fox seemed... out of it. No eye contact had been made, and he hadn't replied immediately. It had taken unusually long for the Koorime's comment to register in his mind, but this went unnoticed, at least by Kurama.
