I find the venom cannon to be the best gun available to the carnifex. Unlike the BS it actually hits tanks and does damage to them. The carnifex should only concern itself with tanks and anything with T7 or greater, as everything else can be killed by the rest of your army.

I wouldn't completely knock the Barbed Strangler, though. Its one of the few weapons that has S8 and a big pie plate. Even if it can't penetrate vehicles, it could still wreak havoc if you pie plated a cluster of small vehicles (since its strength isn't reduced if the center hole is over what the pie plate is over).

Ah yes, I gotta love those Tyranids, but it's almost like if I don't have an un-ending amount of Gaunts with me, I'm gonna get fried in a fight.

well see, the cannon wouldnt hit at strength 12 because its being used with a carnifex, so i find a barbed strangler to be better, i gave my nightmare tyrant a venom cannon that has like, str 9 now because of his toxin sacs and stuff. always hits on a 3 and wounds on a 2, cant argue wth that.

it isnt, thats why a venom cannon with a carnifex is a waste of points, with the strangker you can at least hit on str 8. with the cannon, str 12 isnt even allowed.

I know its not allowed, thats why i was confused... S12 may not be allowed, but an S10 venom cannon on a carnifex isn't necessarily a waste of points. Its still got real good range, and S8 isn't the best at glancing/penetrating Armor 12+. A 'fex with a barbed strangler _and_ venom cannon? That doesn't seem like the best pick, considering there's no 0-1 restriction on them. Maybe a one with each, and scything talons to fill in the hole?

Yeah I did sometyhing kinda dumb, I gave my hive tyrant the barbed strangler and the carnifex the venom cannon. I'm begining to see my mistake with that. Plus I find it rather annoying that Tyranids are only allowed to have five tyranid species per fight. Makes thing alot harder for me. I'm screwed to the max aren't I? xp

thats not true, you could use the whole damn army list, who told you that 5 species crap? because, if that were the case, any respectable nid player would only EVER get to use, a tyrant, its guards, and both gaunt broods along with ONE other unit.

also, if that were the case, why not restrict space marines to only using 5 units? that cant be true because it would give tyranids the shaft compared to other armies.

I think you're only allowed 5 if you mutate them all. Like if you make flying gaunts, carnies with better BS, etc. Its something in the back of the codex with mutable fleets.
