I know most of you guys are marching band players. But I had a great experience the other week. I came home from college (where I do march), and played in my old high school pep band.
I hadn't play drum set in 5 months. Felt great. Just getting to be free again. Pure artistic improv and flow on old songs that I knew by heart smile . Just was a great feeling. My high school has one of the best pep bands in the state. They are only Division 4 in the state of a high school of only 200 kids. But 70 of those kids play in the band. Whenever we play pep band at sport state competitions (volleyball mostly), we get told by division 1 player we are the best pep band they've ever heard. It's a great feeling.
I love marching, love my snare smile , but there's something about playing set back at home.

I'm a Freshman and I march Cymbals at my high school x3. And I'm a major advocate of cymbal playing. It's so fun, I love it.
And now I'll probably get a lot of 'WTFBBQ!'s, but, I hope Percussionists'll understand =P.
My line's massive. 16 people. 6 are cymbals, 4 are bass, 5 snare, 1 quads. That's out of a band of 100, too, and a school of 400.
It rocks ^^;.

Wow, we only had 11 or 12, I can never keep track of how many snares are on our line sweatdrop Although we only had two cymbol players and two quads..... we might get marching bells next year, it's going to be awesome. xd

Gah....you guys have big bands! Out of the 1400 kids in my school, our marching band has only 84 people.
Yes. 84. >_>
And our percussion section is small - Line is 2 snares, 4 basses and 1 tenor. We have all of 6 people in Pit.

*hugses all her pit equipment*
yay pit! I love all mallet instruments, especially my vibes... which I hog during every rehearsal.
Our drumline is decent I think...
5 bass, 3 or 4 snare, 2 tenors I think, but its in flux right now... no cymbals... our percussion instructor is a staunch believer in only a little of a good thing (crash cymbals) so us pit people will cover a few crashes through out the show... though for parades we split the pit, most of us in front doing the banner and state/city/American flags, and three or four in back with cymbals.

Strange? That's exactly how I am. We have to share a vibe between 2 bands at our freshman center. I wouldn't let them have it until the BD said to. I said it earlier but i'll say it again. We had 28 on our DL. 9 snares, 5 tenors, 5 basses, and 9 cymbals. We had about 30 in the pit.
