It was a few days after Christmas, and Gallen refused to stop wearing his festive hat and wishing Christmas cheer till after New Years. He was wondering down past duplexes, minding his own business when he saw the door of one duplex open and out pop the head of Cody.

"HEY KID!!!! MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!" Gallen had a big grin on, he did not know Cody was not feeling well, but did hope to find out what the young boy felt about the gift he had sent him. Kids should never be with out cool gifts on Christmas he always believed

Cody turned his head to see who was calling only to get even more upset than before. Great, it was Gallen
Despite of him believing in his word, Cody still holded a grudge from his first meeting. And that didn't seem like changing any time soon, specially him being already snappy from the constant pain on the legs

The mentioning of the C word only made his mood even bitter. Obviously Gallen couldn't know how horrible this christmas had been to him this year, but the memory was still too fresh for Cody. And painful

"Christmas is over you dumbass. Over, dead and burried!!!"

He sat on the step, both to relief the added pain his weight was causing on the legs and to keep Gallen from having a good look at his face. Tears of anger were already invading

Gallen lowered his hand as he approached Cody.

"Christmas is not over, it is all week, till New years Eve." he smiled as he got close. "Ohh I know what’s up, you miss your folks I bet" Gallen remembered their first meeting and the fact Cody was here with out any family. He did not know the specifics, but he could relate, especially after the few years while he searched for his sister.

"Yhea this time of year can suck with out family." He looked down at the boy, he felt bad giving the poor guy so much grief during their last few meetings. "By the way thanks for the sea shell, that was all I got this year and it defiantly put me in the spirit."

Cody only grumbled, mostly because he couldn't think of anything to snap back. And he didn't want to admit how much he missed his family, specially in front of Gallen

"I only gave it because I can't remember the numbers of most people I've met" and because if he did he'd likely avoid giving one to him, but that part was unspoken

Cody started rubbing his forehead as an headache started to develop. If it was caused by the starting changes or just a side effect from all the stress and pain he was lately, that was unknown
But only seemed to get worse as an odd feeling seemed to spread over his skin, specially on his arms and tail. The tingling made him scratch and with that all the hairs on his hands got lose and started falling as an invisible dust

He didn't noticed the more he scratched the more rubbery and slippery the skin seemed to get. The pain on the legs and the headache distracted him from such fine details
But instead of turning red from all that scratching, it was adopting matching shades of grey and quickly spreading

Gallen sighed, maybe he was right this kid was a brat. He looked at the boy as he scratched his arm, but thought nothing of it. "So I guess you did not like the gift I got you?" he looked up at the sky, for Christmas time the warm weather and pretty blue sky sure made it hard to think of snow and Santa.

"I know how rough it can be kid, I lost my folks when I was young and was taken in by my sister. Then a few years ago she disappeared and thus lead to me getting stuck on this island. Hmph, doubt she is even here. Been nice to have seen here for the holidays.

He looked back at Cody, seeing that the boy was defiantly uncomfortable, and still scratching. "Hey, you ok? You did not get into poison Ivy did yha?"

"Your gift?..... I don't think I opened it!"

That gave him a momentary distraction as he tried to recall what was inside Gallen's present. But the pain soon brought him back to his current worries

The description of Gallen's loss of his family only got Cody to remember how much he missed his own family and that same feeling was breaking the dams he tried so hard to build to prevent tears from flowing

"No" he wasn't feeling ok and he hadn't been around that plant, whichever it was (he'd heard about it but never actually seen it)

Cody tried to rub the first tears from is face and suddently halted. There was 2 things he noticed: the back of his hand felt just like the skin of his tail, and was it just his eyes playing tricks on him, or was it really changing pigmentation!?!

"hey, hey I am sorry, I did not mean to make you cry again. Damn jerks at the labs probably never delivered that gift." he said as he started to kneel down to face Cody when he realized Cody had just started to turn white, like he had seen a ghost. "Cody? CODY? you ok, what’s wrong?" He looked at the boy, worried. Knowing this kid and his trips to the lake and beach. Hoping, but figuring he probably had walked through something in the dense tropical jungle, or even had gotten bitten by some bug, Gallen feared whatever it was, that it was not causing Cody to start looking like he was about to get sick.

Cody was completely spooked, staring at his hands and arms as they changed color and texture
It had been so long since his first change that he almost completely forgotten what it was to go through one. He didn't associate the pain on the legs with it, but now that the arms were changing...... he just hoped he was wrong

Sadly he wasn't
The tingling on the tail was now combining with a hideous pain on his hip bones. It was so sharp he could actually feelt it slowly, but excrutiatingly, narrowing and becoming longer, like a thousand of melted bone shards rearraging themselves in burning, hot pain

Cody screamed and fell on the cold steps, completely ignorant of the world around him. All he could feel, see, smell and touch was the horrible pain

"CODY!" Gallen went to the boys aid and knelt next to him, he saw the changes of pigment on his arms. " Cody! CODY!, Come on, snap out of it." s**t the kid was changing again, as Gallen watched in horror he saw the boys waist start to slim and lengthen, his shorts lessening. "CRAP!" he did not know what to do and the boy was in major pain. "Cody talk to me, what can I do?" it was dumb to ask, but that was all that came to Gallen’s mind as he watched helplessly.

It was a good thing the shorts were lessening, because as the waist leghtened the tail started to push against the rest of the lower body at its base
Slowly the shorts were pulled down, revealing nothing but dolphin body as the changed area was exposed

But to Cody this process burned his nerves to the core, sending him much more pain than he could process to his damaged brain. Everything was pain, everything hurted as his body spamed and convulsed in a feble attempt to escape the ever burning pain
If he could give a color to the world right now it would be blood red, because that was all he could see, feel and scream. Pure, blood, RED!!!

Gallen watched horrified as the boys body changed. The tail growing, the legs shrinking, the shorts slipping down as his lower half seemed to be pulling tight together. He watched as the boy squirmed trying to find comfort. Then out of instinct, he grabbed Cody and picked him up. He had to, he had to get the boy inside, in the tube and get cold water on him. Just maybe that would ease the pain.

The merging was nearly halfway when Gallen picked him up. But Cody was so delirious he didn't realised what was happening
All he wanted was the pain to stop, to be away from and so he continued trashing about, tail waving heavily and hitting everything hard, as it gained power and mass with the merging. Tha combined with the frenetic movements of the upper body made the gripping quite a challenge, specially around the doorways

Trying as hard as he could, Gallen worked at keeping a grip on the flailing Cody, he had to get him inside and in the tub. Hopefully the water he would run over the boy would clam him down and south the terrible pain he was going through from the changes. It took sometimes for Gallen to get through the door. The quick jerks and movement of Cody made it hard, once through the next trick was to get in the bathroom. Stumbling over the mess that was Cody’s room, Gallen was able to make it into the bathroom. Gently setting the boy down in the tub, and quickly moving to turn on the cold water. As the water ran Gallen sat there next to the tub. “it will be ok little guy, it will be ok.” Yet Gallen was not sure of this.

Once the water started to hit him, Cody's movements and screaming progressively died down. It colded him down and made him feel safe, in an environment he suconciously knew he belonged in

The pain was still there, now merging his feet to the tail, but with the cold water beating against the hot, sore skin, it seemed a lot less painful
Cody's conciousness slipped away as his mind fainted into a dreamless, painless darkness. It felt so good to be freed from that torment he wouldn't mind staying there forever

He just laid there sideways with a full formed tail, water splashing gently on his whole body. His shorts were lost somewhere in the way to the bathroom

Gallen knelt there stroking the boy’s hair back as he watched Cody’s legs and feet fuse into the tail. He realized that the boy’s shorts had fallen off, probably during the struggle of trying to get him to the tub. But it did not matter now, his legs and tail where one, and such garment was no longer needed. “Cody? You ok buddy?” Gallen splashed the water on to the boy, socking his shirt and grabbing a wash cloth to sock and lay on the kid’s forehead. These bastards, it was ad enough they now took away the boys mobility on land, but to put him through such torture and torment. He prayed silently as he tended to Cody, that the boy would survive this and not end up another number in Moreau’s privet cemetery.
