Lol, I pulled a muscle in my back late in the season when lifting up my sousaphone... and sometimes it hurts. Marching with the sousaphone will haunt you for the rest of your life! o_o *wiggles fingers eerily*

Kinmotsu LAYDEEHxDORK whee I'm getting lessons to play tuba for marching season next year. I'm switching from a Bb clarinet so it's a little difficult for me to get used to the mouthpiece and the bass clef. sweatdrop I love the tuba though! It's fun to be the only girl at my school to play it. whee You're the only girl tuba and you're gonna be in marching band? *hugs* Be brave. The sousaphone world is a scary and very painful one. >_x; We have four girls in my band who switched to sousaphone for this marching season. Now it's three guys to five girls whee We had eleven dudes to one chick last year, but last year marching band wasn't optional. I think two of the girls who switched play Bb Clarinet in regular band. One of them plays bassoon, and I'm not sure what the other played... she plays a tuba in concert band now, though. The only other senior in the section plays a flute, but has marched sousaphone for the last three years including this one. I love the tuba... I'm the only other person in my concert band who can play THREE OCTAVES without using a clarinet or a marimba. <3 the fourth valve! whee

The thing about switching from a high treble instrument to a tuba is that it's just so much of a change in size. I switched from trumpet halfway through my freshman year, now it's halfway through senior so... about three years ago. The fingerings for the scales are the same, a tuba is, in actuality, just an extremely large concert trumpet that's bent more. The only problem I found is... my trumpet is so tiny now gonk

Kommandant Wiesel The only problem I found is... my trumpet is so tiny now gonk I know exactly what you mean sad ...I got my trumpet out to practice last night. The mouthpiece was SO darn small...jeez...It's so strange after playing with nothing but a tuba mouthpiece for a month. Of course, after playing trumpet for a little while, I got bored and got my tuba mouthpiece out...You know, when you put a trumpet mouthpiece inside a tuba one it makes odd noises whee Yeah...I've been bored.

I've got a question - what's the key signature for a tuba when the concert key is Bb? I can't seem to understand the tuba at all... from what I've gathered, it's in BBb, and I have NO idea what that is for concert pitch. sweatdrop And as I'm writing an arrangement, and it would be nice to have a tuba part... I kinda need to know. ^^;; Thanks in advance!
