people don't really do anything when we practice. we practice on the practice field, which is right across from the normal football field, and this is all on school property away from a main road. we practice on wednesday nights, so we don't get much. sometimes there are soccer games or other things events going on and they have music going so it gets distracting. when things aren't going on, there are people who use the track around the field or people who are just walking by. sometimes they'll sto pand watch. we even have a few regulars who come by to watch us practice sometimes.
during school practice, we don't get much either. some seniors will be leaving for the career center and they look at us when they go by out the senior parking lot (the road from the senior lot goes right betweent he two fields), but they never say anything. we got a complaint once when we were doing parade marching around the lot from one of the classes who was taking a test. they said that they couldn't concentrate cause they could hear us playing. i laughed at them.
the only time we might get any kind of insult is for when the pep band is playing. it's volunteer (cept you get a badge for your letter jacket...i do it all for the heart badges heart ) and not very big, so we might get some dirty looks from the people who think they're cool cause they insult people and don't follow the rules and stuff (you know the kind). but most people actually love the pep band. people will come over and sit with us and request us to play certain songs. the worst is probably state send offs, though. they ask for the pep band, but normally only about half show up, so it's a little small and dinky..about 20-25 kids (our overall band is a little over 200 students, so it seems small to me). so we'll get about one or two yells during each one.
our band has a very high reputation in our school, so we don't really have much to worry about...except from the (strictly...some are in both) choir kids. they insult both the band and orchestra.

At my school we always get...
"Hey, bandos! What are you playing today?"
or
"HA! Look at those band geeks/nerds/bandos/etc.! *giggles* Get a life!"

3nodding yup, allllll the time. they love us!!! they always honk and put up the peace sign or wave. and the scarry thing is, it's only band CAMP. ninja

I need to share this story. It is disgusting.
We were leaving a competition. Id on't know where but we were marching back to our bus. Well we passed this large group of boys and they started yelling at us. They were hitting the members and grabbing our helmets and skunks. They were screaming insults and just being jerks. It was a real exercise in attention. We passed them but our director just complimented us on how we acted.

My school gets that a lot. Those people shouting at us don't know how hard it is. They need to do something else with there lives besides mock us and say "BAND SUCKS!!!" or stuff like that.

Stormbird_Rising We get the jocks and the girls who all they say are "sports! sports! sports!" driving by and honking and yelling at us... our after school practices are in the parking lot, so people are driving by constantly and we get barraged with that crap a lot. My school literally revolves around the football team, so the band gets treated like total scum... at football games, after we do our half time show, we usually find our seats all taken by people, and we literally have to force/threaten/attack them to get them to move because they have no respect for us... Whoa..My marching band has reserved bleachers at football games so when we come back from the shows, we have places to sit.

Because our show last year was "the Planets" we got people driving by and honking the rhythem to Mars. It was cool.
We do get re-res screaming at us, but it really doesnt phase us. We're a pretty self contained group so it's all good.

our marching bang practices in the parking lot and occasionally we get drive bys of people who shout stuff. alot of times after school there will be people who park their cars in the middle of the feild. what happenes is we get as many of the strongest guys we have, and pick the car up and move it! although now we cant because one car was ruined because of it and we didnt wantr to be sued, so we dont do it anymore.

We get insulted all the time.
At a game some stupid guys tossing a football off to the side through the ball at our drum major and it hit her in the head... in the middle of our show...
Then there were 2 guys who streaked in the middle of our show during a game...
They throw stuff at us too, but we have a really stupid school. They always focus on the sports and band/drama and the arts get ignored. It stinks...

Durza the Shade My marching band's practice field is in full view of two fairly major roads and an intersection. As people are driving by, we often have to put up with honking, shouts of "Band sucks!" and "Get a life!", and incoherant screaming. We were even mooned once last year. It's annoying, but we get at least two screamers, a shout and a honk every practice, so we learn to deal with it. I know from a friend in another local band that the same thing happens at their practices. Does this happen to anyone else? We have the same problem.....wonder if you got to the same school as me? So many weirdos shout at us. Or at football games, the crowd would make fun of the guard because we did " The Nightmare Before Christmas" and we used pumpkins as props. they'd laugh becuase we'd have to throw them behind our back ( they were foam) and sometimes, one or two of us wouldn't catch it.

Oh, that was the same with my sister's band. Not mine because....I just graduated from 8th grade. But someone mooned my sister's band and yell out, "F*** you, band fags!" Even the mini bus, which takes the mentally challenged people home, honked at them. XO
It's funny because out town is suppose to be really civilized and well-educated.^^;;

Wow.. only time I've had things thrown at me were in high school. Gatorade ONE WHITE UNIFORMS at Berkamr and pizza, cups, anything they could get at us, or steal MY PLUMES! I'VE BEEN DEFLOWERED! by Brookwood. LoL
Ummm no on ereally gave us grief we were kidna hidden everyone liked the band because there were so many differen ttypes of people that everyone wanted to cheer for thier friends.
Now in college.... OH MY LORD! PEOPLE LOVE THE BAND!! People actually stay for halftime and this year they sand along with the song. Which was Bohemain Rhaspody. ^_^ it brought tears to my eyes. But southern college bands man. I mean look at the Redcoats *crosses herself* may god bless them. They are frekin' awesome! LoL.
