Schutzhund Casseh Valentine What the heck is up with FFIX? I mean...why are the characters heads almost bigger than their bodies? Why does Zidane have that dern tail!!!??? And is Kuja a boy or a girl? I mean...gawd. xd You have found the heart of the dustrabbit. Those are one of main things why I voted 9. Color themes were annoyinly plain and I hated to watch characters with enormous head and limbs and no backbone (this time I mean it literally) at all. Besides those visual annoyances I didn't enjoy very much of the story. There was just too many elements and small things I did not like for several reasons. FF9 just wasn't my kind of game despite how well it was technically made or how complex storyline was. Aw, I love IX. I understand not enjoying the graphics style, but which elements didn't you like? (I also love VIII, but yeah, to each his own and all that.)

FF X-2 wasn't my favorite by far. It just seemed to have lost the "feel" of Final Fantasy. The battle system was completely changed, for better or worse is dependent; but the idea of switching outfits with different purposes just lost all of the dramatic battling I loved in FF. Also, it seemed to cater more to fan service with the pop-ish music (again, not very FF like) and occasionally skimpy clothing (Kuja is excluded from this statement xD).

I personally think that the worst FF that I've SEEN so far is a movie. I mean out of all the FF games and movies I've seen, I think Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within is the worst. I also think it was my introduction to Final Fantasy, unless there was something sooner.
But as far as JUST games goes, I'm going to say that it's a thin line between one and two. I can deal with the graphics, but up to a certain point it's hard to figure out where to go, and the battles get to be ridiculously complicated. I haven't beaten either of those though I think I've gotten close to beating FFI.
And yet still I want to play FFI and II again. I have something to like about all final fantasies though, I guess.

I can honestly say it was VIII that made me realize they weren't trying to put in the high quality of work that they used to in many of the previous games. They spent way too much time trying to beef up the graphics instead of focusing on the storyline. VIII was SO full of plot holes I turned the derned thing off after the second disc; I just couldn't stand it anymore. Not to mention the majority of the characters annoyed the crap out of me. I hated the draw system with a passion and it just made me hate the game all the more.
I honestly think X-2 was better, but not by much.

I also think it was my introduction to Final Fantasy, unless there was something sooner. What specifically didn't you like about the movie? I'm not disagreeing that it was sort of bad, but I also don't think it's nearly as bad as other people do. I agree wholeheartedly on I and II, though. pretty hate machine I can honestly say it was VIII that made me realize they weren't trying to put in the high quality of work that they used to in many of the previous games. I honestly think X-2 was better, but not by much. I don't really think you can say there were plotholes unless you've played the whole game. I mean, who knows what they'll explain later, right? That said, there really were plotholes, but they're the kind that you can fill in, not the ones that warp the time/space continuum around them. I've heard it's because they ran out of time making it and the makers disagreed on what should happened, so they ended up switching a bunch of stuff last minute. It is rather annoying, differentiating dropped storylines and plotholes from the actual story and real hidden story points, but I think that for all the confusion, it's still a really good story if you just take it as it is.

I hated XII with a passion. Vaan was the least likable hero I've ever seen in an FF game. The premise of the story was okay but the actual script was horrible. I didn't have any attachment whatsoever to any of the characters - for the first time ever in an FF game, plus the faux British accents didn't help either.
I can overlook slight problems with the battle system, but it's a great story with endearing characters that makes FF games what they are and XII just wasn't up to par for me.

Heh, the dialogue was probably my favorite part of XII. I just can't resist something that sounds so purely epic. I really liked the voices. ...But I sort of have to agree on everything else. I prefer XII to the really early games though, because they have seriously got no story.

Well, for me, it's a cross between two games.
The first was X-2. The storyline was lacking, the main characters were all female, and it's was generally not put together well. It almost seemed like a rushed presentation some kid put together at two in the morning when they realized "Oh hey! I have a book report due tomorrow and I haven't even read the book." The female characters just kind of bothered me, I mean JEEZ we don't change our clothes that much. Okay. Maybe SOME of us do. Anyways back on topic, it was just generally lacking the final fantasy finesse I had grown to love.
XII is the second one. It was just.....ugh. This one I actually played through though unlike the one mentioned above. The storyline didn't seem to grab me, it was just unoriginal I guess. VAAN was annoying as a two year old taking a temper tantrum. I literally would get him into fights he couldn't win just to watch and laugh as he died! The characters had no depth at all, nothing to give you an attachment to them. The gameplay was horrid! I mean that battle system!? What was up with that? And finally it was just boring. The only way me, my brother, and his girlfriend got through it was to make fun of all the characters and come up with a little story about what Fran does on the corner for 20 bucks an hour and what Balthier and Vaan where doing in the shadows. Yeah, that was definitely one of my least favorite final fantasy games. When I saw Fran for the first time, I was like "Oh Enix must have teamed up with Playboy. OH THE HORROR!"

Ravenwolf Aw, I love IX. I understand not enjoying the graphics style, but which elements didn't you like? (I also love VIII, but yeah, to each his own and all that.) Now I noticed there was also a question tagged. I need to clean my glasses more often it seems. There starts to be such long time since I played it, but things that are still clear in my memory attach themselves to high contrasts. There were some nice things, like Black Waltzes and how they impacted the whole and then to me personally big disappointments such as those two clowns and character concepts. Besides the obvious, character and graphics themselves, I was left cold by character interaction (party characters as non-playing characters). Atmosphere might have been too theater stage like for me, but I have a gut feeling that says that those who have played FF6 and liked Kefka might like FF9 too. (FF6 is only of the series I haven't bought)

(FF6 is only of the series I haven't bought) ((Spoiler warning below for people who haven't beaten it...)) Mm, I can understand if you didn't like the feel of it. The atmosphere was a big part of what I loved about IX; I like the theatricality. VI's atmosphere actually creeped me out, but I'll admit that I didn't really get far enough to get a good idea. I thought the characters were incredible, though. I love how they stay as part of the story; everyone is important even later in the game, unlike, say, VIII or X or XII. Much as I dislike Quina, I must grudgingly admit that even s/he wasn't completely useless. More could have been done with them, but I feel like it would have slowed down the story. It's nice how much attention is paid to them relating to the story, than they don't have to throw in little side things to make they characters seem real, They just did to me. For example, Eiko being all alone at Madain Sari and Burmecia being destroyed: They were caused by major storyline events and became the characters' stories. This would be in contrast to Wakka and Lulu, for example, who have sort of a backstory in Chappu, but it's only loosely related to the overall storyline. Zorn and Thorn were annoying and infuriating, but I still really like them as characters. I thought they were cute, and their way of speaking was awesome. Plus, the fact that they're not just mindless drone enemies that follow Brahne, and then they actually defect to Kuja... and when you find out that they were actually halves of one monster? I just really like the detail they put into what could have been boring throwaway characters. In fact, NPCs in general were really well developed. I've just been looking up IX quotes, and they say some pretty awesome stuff. Random Alexandrian soldier There was no need to take things this far. I pledged my loyalty to Queen Brahne in order to protect Alexandria. Not to kill people. Random pigeon lover Look to the sky. It's such a sad color. Lindblum's blue sky died with our freedom... Although... I'm not sure if I understood what you meant by "party characters as non-playing characters"?
