"Oh worry not your pretty head on how I'll get the money. Just know that I will," the man grinned at Lor in a disturbing fashion."

Voltaire spat something out in elvish tongue and spit at the floor near the man's feet, "Scum like you should care." He said in common after he got whatever he said out of his system. Likely some obscure curse word he didn't want Annjette to know.

The man was now looking throughly insulted, "...I'll be back! With my own army," he said ominously then he turned his back and stalked out. Possibly realizing that he was outnumbered in this place as people were beginning to gather and see what was going on. The poor of this place almost always banded together it seemed...He wasn't going to take his chances.

A look of guilt etched lightly over Voltaire's face and he glanced down at Annjette and over at Lor and Lizzy saying softly, "I should get more control of my emotions.."

Lorelei stared at Pales for a moment, a hand on Lizzy's shoulder still holding the girl close. Vanna twittered from where she sat in Annjette's hair.

"... What do we do now?" Lorelei asked, quietly. "That didn't sound at all good... we can't just leave Lizzy here. And her mother..."

Lizzy clung to Lorelei's skirts, looking up at the two with wide eyes. "Sankyuu..."

Silver and her mother both laughed as her father told her what kind of trouble Vairn had gotten himself into lately. Apparently he had been caught trying to steal Mrs. Jurgai's favorite horse from the Gjerhvayne Inn stables. She had come across the bridges from V'Orthyn to do business with Silver's father in Seinheph and was staying there for the weekend. She had wanted a rare stone that had been in her family for generations set into a custom-made ring that Silver's father had crafted to her specifications.
"So that's why he disappeared right before we got to the inn!" Silver laughed. "What in the world was he thinking?"
"Well that, and everyone knows he's stolen Mr. 'Vayne's golden pocket watch. I guess the boy couldn't help himself, Ay. You know how he is! Crafty as a fox, but thick as a brick." Daieth pointed to his own skull for emphasis. "Anyway, that fool actually saddled and bridled the horse and tried to ride her through the gate! He didn't get ten paces before the stable hands tackled him and dragged him off - " Daieth stopped talking and his eyes were suddenly the size of saucers. "Ayen, what's wrong with her?" Silver realized her mother had her hand clamped over her mouth and was staring across the table as well, while Khevashi had begun making an odd noise and rocking uneasily on her shoulder. She immediately followed her parents' eyes across the table to the seat next to her and saw nothing but a dark aura, a shadow, where her daughter should have been. "Aisrhan?!" Silver stared in horror as the shadow began to diffuse, but coalesced once more into a solid form. Eventually it faded entirely leaving only Aisrhan sitting in the seat next to her mother. Silver reached over and grabbed her daughter by the shoulders. "Ais?! Are you alright?? What happened?! Wait - why am I asking? Oh gods, we have to go see Val right now!"
Aisrhan hissed. "Ow! Hey! Momma, let go! What's wrong?"
Silver let go, stunned. "What did you say...?" Silver looked at Aisrhan incredulously. She couldn't believe it. So that was what had happened. Asirhan had grown, right there, at her parent's house... at the dinner table? Well, she guessed the meij had its reasons. But that was such a dark magick... Silver knew she hadn't imagined it. She decided to shove the thought aside for now. She would speak with Valelldia later.
"Ais, you can talk!" Silver grabbed Aisrhan's shoulders again, but hugged her tightly this time. "MooOOm, you're hurting me!"
"Oh! I'm sorry sweetie!" She released her daughter again, but was grinning ear to ear.
"Ayen... what just happened?" Silver's mother was staring at them both and her father's face was ashen as he took another generous swig of ale.

It was a mazing how fast things seemed to spin out of control. He was still for a moment and Lor's question seemed to hit on deaf ears before Voltaire spoke again, "I have no intention of leaving them in the mess I seemed to have made worse. We shall do what we need to do. I think, first we should find Lizzy's mom before he does..."

Annjette had gone still and quiet though she was aware of Vanna and where the little bird sat.

"We find the mother and we shall speak with her."

No sooner had he said that when Lizzy's mother appeared, "Speak with who about what? Lizzy, what have I told you about bringing strangers to our door?" the woman gently scolded once she caught sight of everyone before the door of her apartment

Lizzy looked down at her feet sheepishly for a moment, "Bu' mamma, they's nice people! They wanted to meet you!" she protested, "An' that stupid man was 'ere again. I'm glad they came wi' me!"

Lizzy's mother went a little pale in the face, but fought to keep composure.

"We only wanted to help, ma'am," Lorelei assured, biting her lip. "We saw your daughter selling butterflies - when she mentioned that you were in a bit of a spot, we thought to come and help. But... well... we might have made things worse. As such, we're going to do as much as we can to help. That is... if you don't mind..."

She held out her hand. "I'm Lorelei Serin."

The woman took her hand cautiously, shaking it. "I'm all for help, of course, but..."

Voltaire interrupted, "He says he is going to bring others, I don't think it's safe here, Miss.."

The woman smiled with some mirth lighting in her eyes, "My name is Elaine, and don't worry about Nathaniel he always likes to huff and puff when not getting his way..."

Voltaire faltered a bit, "Still! He was so cruel to Lizzy!"

Elaine simply ignored the statement, for some reason not wishing to explain that, "Your name is, sir?"

Before Voltaire could reply Lizzy spoke up, "'is name is Voltaire! Th' lil' girl in 'is arm is named Annjette! Can they stay the night? Pleasepleaseplease?!"

"It might be wise, Miss Elaine. If he isn't just huffing and puffing this time... of course, we can always return to the inn, if our presence would make you uncomfortable."

Elaine sighed, pushing some loose strands of hair behind her ear. "No, I suppose it's all right. We don't have much, and I'm afraid I won't be able to feed you... but we can surely set up a few extra blankets for you three. Will that be enough?"

"More than enough - we're travelers, we're used to hardship. Don't trouble yourself. And thank you, very much!" Lorelei curtsied.

Smiling a little, Elaine opened the door to her small, one-room apartment, motioning them inside.

"Birdie is Vanna!" Annjette added, not wishing for her bird-friend to be forgotten just because she was quiet this day from all the currently traumatic disturbances in her life.

Voltaire smiled a bit and nodded, "Yes, can't forget Vanna." He went quiet as he listened to Lor and Elaine talk for a moment before adding his piece, "Thank you, Elaine, you are a very kind woman. We don't mind a bit." He moved into the apartment still carrying Annjette (and Vanna by proxy).

Lizzy and her mother went about picking up the cages that were placed down during the confrontation with the man now known as Nathaniel.

Once everybody was inside, there was a short wait and then a very simple dinner of vegetables and some dried meat. It wasn't much, but it wasn't bad, either. Then Elaine shuffled Lizzy off to sleep.

"So," she whispered, after Lizzy was asleep, "you're travelers? What brings you to Seinheph?"

"Our caravan is passing through, and one of our friends has family here," Lorelei explained, smiling. "It seems to be a nice town. Voltaire, Annjette, Vanna and I were exploring when we met your daughter."

Elaine smiled a little, "Ahh, I see," she smoothed out her dress a bit, "Nathaniel is just a big bully is all. He'd never harm Lizzy no matter how he postures himself before strangers." There seemed to be a deeper hidden meaning to what Elaine said.

Voltaire gotten Annjette to sleep, but the thing was the girl seemed glued to the man's side and thus she slept upon his lap, with Vanna likely nestled on Lor's shoulder.

"Your daughter doesn't seem to like him much..." He said after a moment, digesting what was said.

"She is young, and only sees his gruff exterior. I've known him for years - I know how to deal with him by this point." She smiled reassuringly at the group.

Lorelei stroked Vanna's small head. The bird had fallen asleep as Annjette had. "So... he's no danger to you, then?"

"No, not really. It would be nice to get him off my back, but I can live just as well with his constant badgering. It's only for Lizzy's sake that sometimes I wish that he'd... go away."

Voltaire almost offered to 'get rid' of Nathaniel but for some reason it felt like a bad idea to even suggest such at thing, "It just ... seems odd asking for payment and all that..."

Elaine only laughed a bit, "He is trying to prove something. Just ... forget it."

Voltaire raised an eyebrow and rolled a shoulder up into a shrug and glanced at Lor. This situation seemed to be but a small part of something larger that seemed to be going on.

"Perhaps we should retire," Lorelei said, catching Voltaire's glance. "We can talk about it more in the morning. But we've had a long journey, and sleep would be nice, indeed."

"Of course. I'll be up a little while longer. Cleaning up and washing Lizzy's clothes, feeding the butterflies with a little bit of sugar I managed to get."

Lor stood, curstying. "Thank you again, for everything."

"It wasn't much at all." She began picking up the dinner plates, old cracked affairs.

Lorelei headed for the blankets, motioning for Voltaire to follow.

Voltaire nodded a bit, "Yes, I think rest would be good, it has been a very big day..." He lifted Annjette in his arms, and cradled her as he got up and followed Lor without much prompting, but he stopped glancing back at Elaine, "Glad to have met you and to have recived your gracious hospitality."

The woman smiled a little and shrugged, "It is nothing much, but I am glad you and Miss Lorelei enjoyed yourselves. I only wish I could do more at times."

He shrugged and turned to go rest, "It doesn't take much to keep us happy. Just friendship. Good night, Miss Elaine."
