March 2018 Academy: Language Arts Junior 1. Roll a 1d100 2. Based on the picture rolled, child will write about an imaginary planet based on it. Needs to describe life-forms inhabiting the planet, the climate, plants (if any) and wildlife. 3. Word count is 250 words or more. 4. ??? Profit!
Username: Nashawryn Student Name: Georgette Number Rolled: 51 (world #3)
Planet Description: This planet is very foggy and densely tree’d. It is very moist and humid most of the time but at night it will become moist and chilly. In the winter the planet is covered in at least a few feet of snow. Lichen, moss, ferns, wildflowers and other small plants can be found on the forest floor. Shrubs fill in the middle level and hardwood trees like maple, oak, birch, magnolia, sweet gum and beech make up the third level. The trees are deciduous and shed their leaves each fall and winter, only to regrow leaves once again in spring.
A few of the animals that can be found there are white tailed deer, moose, black bears, lynx, snowshoe hares, pine marten, barred owls, and beavers.
White-tailed deer are the smallest members of the North American deer family. Adult white-tail deer have reddish-brown coats in summer which naturally fade to a duller grayish-brown in winter. Male deer grow new antlers each year. During the mating season male deer will often use their antlers to fight for the attention of female deer. Moose are the largest members of the deer family and are one of the largest land mammals. Their huge bodies are covered with short dark brown fur. They have large ears and a long square face. A flap of skin known as a bell sways beneath the moose's throat. Males have wide antlers that can measure up to 2 meters in width, from tip to tip. Moose shed their antlers in the fall and early winter following the end of the breeding season. Every year male moose grow a new set of antlers that is larger than the previous year's "rack."
The coat of a Black Bear is shaggy and usually black but it can also be dark brown, cinnamon, yellow-brown, grey-blue and white depending on it’s location on the planet. A white chest patch is uncommon in most populations. Eyes are brown (blue at birth). It’s skin is light gray. The black bear is approximately 4 to 7 feet from nose to tail, and two to three feet high at the withers. It has small eyes, rounded ears, a long brown snout, a large body, and a short tail. Males weigh an average of 150-300 lbs.
Lynx have a short tail, characteristic tufts of black hair on the tips of their ears, large, padded paws for walking on snow and long whiskers on the face. Under their neck, they have a ruff which has black bars resembling a bow tie although this is often not visible. Body colour varies from medium brown to goldish to beige-white, and is occasionally marked with dark brown spots, especially on the limbs. As climates get colder and more northerly, lynx have progressively thicker fur, lighter colour, and their paws are larger and more padded to adapt to the snow. Their paws may be larger than a nightmare’s hand or foot, excluding Slaugh.
It has the name "snowshoe" because of the large size of its hind feet. The animal's feet prevent it from sinking into the snow when it hops and walks. Its feet also have fur on the soles to protect it from freezing temperatures. For camouflage, its fur turns white during the winter and rusty brown during the summer. Its flanks are white year-round. The snowshoe hare is also distinguishable by the black tufts of fur on the edge of its ears. Its ears are shorter than those of most other hares. In summer, it feeds on plants such as grass, ferns and leaves; in winter, it eats twigs, the bark from trees, and buds from flowers and plants.
The pine marten is a long, slender-bodied weasel about the size of a mink with relatively large rounded ears, short limbs, and a bushy tail. Pine marten have a roughly triangular head and sharp nose. Their long, silky fur ranges in color from pale yellowish buff to tawny brown to almost black. Their head is usually lighter than the rest of their body, while the tail and legs are darker. Pine marten usually have a characteristic throat and chest bib ranging in color from pale straw to vivid orange.
Barred owl adults are large, and are brown to grey with barring on the chest. It has a pale face with dark rings around the eyes, a yellow beak and brown eyes. The upper parts are mottled gray-brown. The underparts are light with markings; the chest is barred horizontally while the belly is streaked vertically (hence its name "barred owl" ). The legs and feet are covered in feathers up to the talons. The head is round and lacks ear tufts. Their diet consists mainly of small mammals, but they are also known to prey upon other small animals such as birds, reptiles, and amphibians
The beaver is this planet’s largest rodent. The beaver is rich brown in color and has a wide paddle-shaped tail. Beavers can grow up to 40" long, including the tail, and can weigh up to 60 lbs. The tail is about 10 inches long and 6 inches wide. The tail, because of its thickness, can cause a loud splash when it slaps the water. The beaver is also recognized by huge front teeth.

Planet Description: Alexander looked at the picture of the sea creature on the bucket and he imagined a plant that was made of mostly shiny rocks and water. He wrote that down and then he wrote that he thought the temperature would be warm so sea plants could grow to feed the giant sea creatures. He wrote everything down and then tapped his pencil on his desk frowning trying to think what else he could add to his world. He decided the sky would be a grey purple color and the sun would be a blue color. He wanted to bang his head on his desk this was hard trying to come up with details about his own planet. He didn't feel all that inspired by the sea creature on the silver and the water.
Alex started writing some more stuff about the clouds, plants, food for the giant sea creatures anything he could think of to meet the word count the teacher had requested for this project. He wasn't very hopeful that the teacher would like his paper. So he finished what he could and turned his paper in hoping it would be good enough for at least a D he didn't think he really liked Language arts. Writing just wasn't his thing he wanted to be doing something active. Something he could do with his hands and a way to help others like his dream to become a firefighter or a cop. He headed out of the class as quickly as he could so he wouldn't have to face his grade.

Username: Delicate Rose Bud Student Name: Charlemagne Number Rolled: 14
Planet Description: (A minimum of 250 or more words please!)
Charlemagne's interest was drawn to this week's writing assignment particularly because it centered around space and science fiction. It was a genre he enjoyed and the study of the sky was something he hoped to take a class in sometime soon. He made a b-line for the library and checked out several books on planets and the solar system, taking the essential information from them and tweaking them for his own planet. 'The planet Mondas, as it's called by most scientists, is a carbon planet in a thinly populated solar system with only ten other planets. Mondas is about 2 times bigger than our planet and its gravity is about 1.5 times that of our planet. A single day lasts 38.12 hours and a year lasts 154 days. The planet is made up of 10 continents, which make up 34% of the planet's landmass. 4 moons orbit the planet and Mondas itself orbits a yellow sun in a wide, elliptic orbit. The plant-like organisms on this planet are made up of fungi, flowers and tiny trees. Shrubs and bushes are non-existent, although some trees look enough like shrubs, so they could be classified as such. The fungi and flowers live in harmony with one another, which leads to interesting, intertwined growth patterns. Despite not being much more than the first baby steps to higher, more specialized species, the species on this planet already show great promise in terms of diversity and characteristics we've never seen before. Corals, although very basic, can be found all over the planet's oceans, seas, and lakes. While they lack the bright colors and odd shapes you'd find on Earth's corals, they do have the makings of a varied aquatic wildlife, with an abundance of gorgeous species. While most animal-like organisms on this planet are nothing more than bacteria and other microbes, a few species have already evolved into crude forms of insects. While they still lack many of the specialized characteristics you'd find on plenty of our planet's insects, they do show the first steps to such specialized creatures.'Charlie was very proud to turn in his writing assignment, pleased with the end product. written response word count: 272 total word count: 346

Username: Delicate Rose Bud Student Name: Marie Number Rolled: 71
Planet Description: (A minimum of 250 or more words please!)
Marie believed that writing was her strong suit. She excelled in crafting beautifully worded responses to pretty much any assignment she could. She was intrigued by this week's writing subject, hoping she would get either the heavily forested one or the candy-like one. She wasn't pleased with the barren orange planet she was given but thought it was better than the weird black planet with the repulsive crustacean on it. She ended up bumping into Charlemagne at the library out of sheet coincidence and was grateful that he let her imitate the structure of his writing assignment. With that bit of help, she had the momentum she needed to start writing. 'The planet Vinci is a copper planet in a densely populated solar system with thirteen other planets. Vinci is about 4.2 times bigger than our planet and its gravity is about 3.45 times that of our planet. The planet is made up of 2 continents, which make up 63% of the planet's landmass. 2 moons orbit the planet and Vinci itself orbits a white sun in a wide, elliptic orbit. The plant-like organisms on this planet are spread thinly and mostly made up out of a huge amount of different types of bushes. Each of which has the ability to absorb nutrients from a huge area around it, leaving nothing for other species. This leads to many different types of shapes and sizes, as well as colors and scents, due to the different nutrients in each area. While their colors, shapes and in some cases their scents may be wonderful, none of these organisms have developed beyond a more basic form. Aquatic plants are almost non-existent on this planet. Instead, life is limited almost exclusively to hard corals. Their rock-like skeletons offer a great deal of protection, but it's sometimes near impossible to tell where one coral starts and the other ends, let alone where coral meets rock. Hidden in the depths of this planet's oceans are a species of sentient creatures who made their home in the most hostile environments imaginable. These creatures look like a cross between jellyfish and giant squids but have the intelligence comparable to that of dolphins. These intelligent creatures are surrounded by a plethora of fish, crustaceans and other aquatic creatures unseen on our planet. In contrast to this aquatic world, the surface world is relatively dull. Amphibians and insects rule this world, but while they may not be anywhere near as interesting as the sentient creatures of the depth, they did evolve in remarkable ways.'written response word count: 312 total word count: 424

March 2018 Academy: Language Arts Freshling 1. Student picks a 'Leader' type character and defines which traits make them a leader. This must be 100 words or more. 2. Post a small RP response in thread with the student's reaction to the assignment. This must be at least 100 words total 3. ??? Profit!
Username: Nasaiki Student Name: Orphe Character Chosen: Captain Kirk How are they a Leader?: Kirk has several traits that make him a good captain and thus a good leader to his ship. The first trait would be confidence. He has confidence in his crew to do their jobs when they need to get them done, and he has confidence they will pull it off, he also has confidence in his own abilities and can appear to be steadfast and secure when trouble shows up to be an anchor for the rest of his crew. Another important trait was his creativity. He was able to come up with unique and non-traditional solutions to the problems that occurred. It often times lead him out of a sticky situation and saved his ship and his crew when often they would have perished with traditional means. He also wasn't afraid to break the rules when people where in danger or when his crew needed him.
Response: Orphe was feeling a tad bit geeky today so he knew exactly who he was going to pick his report on; he just hoped that no one else except for the teacher read the paper. After all he got enough teasing because of his mutations and his dress was a bit different from everyone else. Still it was the character that had popped into his mind so he was going to go with it.
He typed some more words to the essay and gave it an introduction and an ending paragraph but overall he was happy with what he had. He just now had to make sure his name was on the paper and turn it in, which he quickly did before sitting down. The essay actually was kind of fun.

Username: Nasaiki Student Name: Acheron Character Chosen: Woody How are they a Leader?: In toy story quite a lot of characters could be considered a leader, but one of the main two that stand out is woody. Woody has the trait of inspiration. He inspires his fellow toys through loyalty and compassion. He makes them want to band together to work out differences. Even after he loses sight of himself for a while, when he truly sees that the toys needs his help he rises to the occasion and inspires others to join up with him.
He also when not overwhelmed by jealousy has good management skills. He is able to organize things, work towards what is truly important and convince others to work together to get a job done.
Response: Acheron sighed and tapped his pencil against the desk. What was it with annoying assignments today. Ah well he would just learn to live with it. The problem was picking some one to write as a leader. He didn’t really read that often, most of the time was unfortunately dealing with people around his dad or his dad. He did play video games but none of them stood out and the ones that did, definitely had already been picked before.
Come to think of it there was one movie he supposed he could analyze. Oh well he would just totally bluff his way through this paper. Its what most ma- uh people did. Finally coming up with a response he went up to turn the paper into the teacher.

Username: Nasaiki Student Name: Munnin Number Rolled: 34
Planet Description:
Muninn could do this. It was simple he just had to use his imagination and create a planet. The only problem was creating a planet wasn’t really one of his creative strong suites. Then again that was what class was for right? To push you and make you think outside the box. So he would just need to think outside the box right.
It’s a relatively normal planet, second from its sun but still in the goldy locks zone for hospitable life. However it’s also a young planet just recently finished from its chaotic start of being bombarded by asteroids so as such not much life lives there yet. It’s on its way however having formed two rather decent sized moons. Water has gathered in great quantities, enough for the occasional rainfall and enough to have oceans cover a good chunk of the planet.
The planet does suffer from heavy volcanic activity on its land and even in some of its ocean. Magma fire spews from the volcanoes and sends ash clouds plunging into the sky. Black soot covers everything not being destroyed by magma for as far as the land can see. It goes through long periods of day and night, the night being pitch dark other than from the light of the magma.
The planet is relatively still warm due to the volcanic heat and mountains are everywhere one can see. However they aren’t normal mountains we are used to. Each giant mountain actually is a dragonic like creature of rock that moves around to create land masses. Each year they migrate great distances so the volcanoes on their back and body can create new land. The land creatures are also constantly covered in ash clouds and a sort of eerie fog rises up from the oceans in the morning only to be burned away from the heat from the lava.
There that should fit with the picture right? Anyways Munnin was going to go for it and went to turn in his little fantasy planet.

Username: Nasaiki Student Name: Pherein Number Rolled:91
Planet Description: what the …. What kind of picture was this? And she had to create a planet from it. No, no deep breaths. Deep breaths. Pherein could do this. She wasn’t going to let a candy land picture defeat her. It was just she had to write 250 words on candy land? Was it girly to cry? Well she wasn’t going to let a school assignment get the better of her. She rolled up her sleeves and picked up the pen ready to conquer.
There is a planet hidden in the depths of our galaxy, lying on the fridges of our solar system beyond our ability to see. The rules of realty are different on this planet. It sends out signals only our sleeping brain can detect and seemingly infects dreams. You see everything on this planet was not formed from carbon and iron and metals. No this planet was formed with sugar, liquid, crystal and gooey forms of it.
It was practically always bright and airy with a slightly sugar high inducing atmosphere… not made with oxygen so some of the time you were a bit delusional while visiting, if you could visit. Trees were made of peppermint and taffy. Water was liquid sugar and snow when it fell formed and hardened somewhat into sugary mint icing. While it was mostly day time Night did come around even though it was often weirdly short and everything when exposed to darkness tended to twinkle and glow in the dark.
The people who lived here were even stranger as they were made of gelatin and constantly darted around at the edge of your vision so you only saw glimpses. Everything also had two different colors and if you cracked a path or building or plant open it would be a completely different color inside.
There was also various species of tree as well. one was nicknamed gumdrop tree due to its leaves looking like the named candy. Others had candy melt leaves. Another had jellybeans. Of course as everything was alive in a way nothing on the planet was particularly edible and the life there took everything they needed from the sunlight.
Haha there word count met and she could stop over analyzing candy. She stuffed a gumdrop in her mouth as protest as she walked up to turn the planet essay in.

Username: Nasaiki Student Name: Frey Bio: Frey grew up like most of the children who end up going to the academy. Well actually not like most as he was a cache kid and most kids now days ended up coming from a family it seemed. He was quiet and took to blending into the background as much as he could. Part of this was probably due to the fact he was a pure blooded litch and growing up a lot of things were muted for him: a muted sense of pain, a muted sense of self, and a muted sense of well practically everything.
He had the typical looks, pale pallor like skin, black sclera and sharp claws and pointed ears. His hair and height were out of the norm as he was on the rather tall side for a litch and he had bright pink ombre hair. He also tended to wear somewhat ripped up and holey clothing. Luckily bullying didn’t really seem to be a thing, mostly because you can’t bully what you can’t find and the child frey was quite happy to hide away in the library. Eventually though life got a bit more exciting. He was dragged into the astronomy club so they could get enough members to go legit and somehow eventually became one of the leaders of it. He also met his future significant other there as well. Ash, said significant other is darling and cute and precious and Frey is quite happy to be dating them.
He also discovered his passion in life was working with hair. He likes fixing hair crisises and making the hair fun and gorgeous again. It’s also started to get him more friends and is helping him slowly become more social. Who knows where he will go from there, although he is working on getting his new salon.
Response: Why did everyone have to do a biography piece? Maybe Frey wanted to keep the mystery of it all and just go around as an anti-social jerk or whatever people called him now days. He had plenty of practice working at the salon so it wasn’t like he couldn’t be sociable and he can perfected his small talking without ever revealing anything about himself. Ugh and here he thought the ‘what do I want to do’ essays were bad. However complaining wasn’t going to get it done, but seriously this might defeat him. He wasn’t that exciting, hardly enough to fill up that many words... although he would do it, somehow.

Username: Nasaiki Student Name: Seraph Bio:
Seraph was born to Meris Aracelia and Adora. They were two very famous singers who had gotten caught up in the band’s baby fever. Unfortunately they got caught up in the baby fever during October and so Seraph came out with a few extra things. He had his own pair of fangs despite not having any goblin, naga or neko blood. He also had slit pupils although most people were more distracted at his heterochromia to notice the slits. He also had two tails. Luckily everything was very cosmetic, although bright lights did pose somewhat of a problem. All in all he was what many would call a Hallowed.
However his parents never let him feel different, they adored him just the way he was and while they were a bit strange Seraph didn’t mind as he was a bit strange himself. Growing up he was also surrounded by tons of godparents in the form of other band members and he tried to get to know all their children as well. He did have his own group of friends for a while but they dissipated and went their own separate ways as they got older. Unfortunately he also had developed somewhat of a problem with trying to solve the world and his friend’s problems with money.
Such a problem with money that he doesn’t really have to work for a living either, although he does model quite often to pass the time and because it makes people happy. Unfortunately other than make people happy he seems to lack a drive for the future in the sense that he doesn’t have a dream.
Response: Seraph tapped the desk with his pen and rested his head on his other propped up hand. Well it wasn’t like Seraph wasn’t used to talking about himself and talking about himself and talking about himself, unfortunately the downside of having famous parents, and trying to branch out into the limelight yourself. However he felt exhausted talking about himself. He wanted to explore new things, but of course the school wanted to make sure you have thought about the future and he supposed thought about your past as well. So it wasn’t too hard to write about himself, it was just the problem of what to right, in what person and what areas to cover.
