It was true. Zan wasn't as on-point as he usually was, though it was by no means Sylvia's fault. As much as he enjoyed dressing up and being in the spotlight, he suspected he might have felt more at ease had he been paid to be here. He didn't even want to consider what that might have said about him, just in case this place was infested with mind readers or something. The people at the Prytaneum had already seen too much of him, and he wasn't thinking of that time he'd been naked in the bayou.
He circled the table, bringing his cookie to Sylvia's side. "Unfortunately, no. I don't want to tempt fate or anything, but it's almost boring around here when there's not some sort of terrible perversion of reality going on." Zan took a bite, chewed, and swallowed, looking more and more amused as he did so. "Yeah, no. Forget I said that. No bad guys. No perversions of reality. Boring is good? Maybe?" He grinned and raised and eyebrow. "So, Trick or Treat?"

Sylvia’s smile grew as he went on about perversions of reality – wasn’t that a fitting term – through her brows furrowed a bit. She… wouldn’t be inclined to admit it, but he was sort of right. The Prytaneum was a little humdrum when there wasn’t some terrible thing to take care of. Then again, her life was pretty humdrum before – she could only imagine how boring it was for a former street performer with a new stage every day in his previous life.
She did feel that he was, indeed, tempting fate just by saying as much, though. She shook her head, “You’re just asking for something to swoop down and make us all regret our costumes.” Her dress, while lovely, was not exactly made for battle, and she’d honestly be a bit pissed if something did happen and she ruined her gown. Beth would probably feel the same, and possibly Lex as well. Zan would actually probably be fine. She couldn’t tell if Misha and Brian’s costumes would be better or worse – they were wearing pants, at least, which was good, but p/leather could get tight…
She was pulled from continuing to consider every costume she’d seen, or in the room, when Zan finished swallowing and spoke again. She laughed at his turn to questioning himself. Boring, she thought, was just fine for the moment. His last question had a bit of intrigue, though, and made her pop an eyebrow and take on a truly impish smile that matched her costume. “Mm, that can be a dangerous question.” Her eyes moved down to the cookie he hadn’t finished and she tilted her head, “But haven’t you already found yourself a treat?”[ 281; 4,225 total ] Smerdle It's okay! ; w; I was super busy the holiday week, and then I got sick, so I've been taking forever on tags anyway~ ;; I... you probably won't believe that since this is a quick tag back, but literally this is the first day I've done tags in a while... And even besides all that, life happens, and that's always okay. x'3 <3

"Oh, no. I wouldn't want that." Zan chuckled, straightening up as if he had an important announcement to make. "Just for tonight, no surprises. At least not supernatural ones. I swear that not a single costume shall be threatened on my watch." He looked at hers again, his admiration sincere, if brief. She looked rather magical. He wasn't used to seeing that kind of magic much, even now. Especially now. The gods' idea of it was less glitter and light and more turning into a fox and biting slightly sweaty geese.
At her question, he turned his consideration to the cookie under scrutiny, sticking the rest of it into his mouth and giving her a close-lipped smile as he chewed and swallowed. "Technically, I did. But it's gone now, and since I can't imagine tricking you, there's really only one option. Treat or treat. You're a treat, Sylvia," he said like a cheeky gangster in an old-timey movie, "But I think this party's a trick. Probably just me. I mean, I wear this for work, so I kind of feel like I should be performing."

Sylvia giggled at Zan’s announcement, then bowed a grateful head. An amused smile on her face, she looked back up at him and proclaimed, “Our hero!” She noticed his fleeting glance over her costume once more and beamed with pride. She became vaguely aware of her flush cheeks, though she couldn’t remember if they had already been flush from the punch she’d had.
Bright laughter almost escaped her lips as Zan stuffed the rest of his cookie in his mouth, but she bit her lips and held it back to a chuckle. She couldn’t hold back the giggle at his old-timey impression, though. She frowned a bit at his following statements. “Well, you shouldn’t have to feel that way. We’ll have to find you a different costume for next year.” She angled herself and leaned a shoulder into him, “If it helps, I doubt anyone is expecting you to perform.” She offered a friendly smile and stepped back, tilting her head slightly. “Anything we can do to make you more at ease?”[ 172; 4,397 total ]
