Diryas found his choice between offense and defense to be fairly simple. While he was hardly a powerhouse, he did have a weapon, and he could not in good conscience let it go to waste. If it looked like the defenses were lagging dangerously, he'd stop and help, but for right now... For right now, he was going to try to see what he could do about the birds. He hardly considered himself a professional with his whip in the arena of combat, but it would do. It would have to do.
Trying to stay mindful of the fact that he did not have terribly much in the way of armour, Diryas moved to the fringes, but not too far. He didn't want to hit anyone by accident, but he also didn't want to unnecessarily expose himself to danger. He would do no one any good by ending up cut off from everyone else. And so he lashed out with his whip, it hissing with a wicked crack and a satisfying twang whenever he hit a bird. One of them spiraled sans wing to the ground, destroyed in a mess of sparks.

"Thanks!" Beth said to the man who quickly came to her side to relieve her of her burden. She was starting to say that a lot. As she heard his advice for how to use the piece of furniture they carried, she nodded, yanking the cushions off and running into the next room to relieve Misha of the burden of bodily blocking the hole. She hesitated as she saw claws and beaks scratching, widening the breach. Her breath caught. Would these sacks of stuffing really help? But as soon as she thought it, she shook herself into action, shoving the cushions between shield and empty air. "Here!" She gave Misha a grim smile, pushing with all of her might.
She heard someone else cry out for help fortifying, but there was no way she could run off to answer until the rest of the couch was delivered.

Asher wasn't just sitting around and doing nothing, that wasn't it -- it was simply that he wasn't doing a very good job. Fighting in the closed confines was much harder than it had been out in open terrain, shoulder to shoulder with other Chosen and civilians, all of them struggling to keep the threat at bay.
Mostly, he swung and he missed, only succeeding in driving a handful of birds back. Every now and then, he caught one, a brief rake of dagger against feathers that seemed largely ineffective. This time, he hit one harder.
Misha send a glowing sideways smile at Beth and her help. "You angel, you," she laughed. "All of you!" With the extra body helping to hold the window, she was able to pull back just enough to send glances around at the others as well.
As the couch approached, Misha eyed it with appreciation. Under her breath, she started a count. Then, just as it was nearly on top of her and Beth, she called out "now!" and shifted out of the way, dragging both buckler and Beth from the path of the couch. She dropped her shield almost immediately and added her weight and muscles to getting the couch appropriately up-ended.

Sidney James - Bow: base damage 6
Sid grinned, enjoying the consternation radiating from her friend. It was good, in her mind, to give him a good poke like that every so often. Kept him down to earth and approachable.
She drew back and held her arrow until the others vacated the window, and then left off a quick shot while they manuvered the couch into place. It pinged on something, but it wasn't a great shot, too rushed for a lot of accuracy.
It was in the distraction of the window patching that something came barreling out of nowhere and crashed into her back. Sid yelped as she was shoved forward, clattering to the ground with someone on top of ******** hell... Mercy?" She said as she twisted to look.

Ewan hadn't stopped moving, he thought, hadn't stopped working to patch up the hotel and, from time to time, take a shot at a bird. But the birds kept coming, and after awhile, when his efforts felt more frivolous than anything else, he stopped to push his hair out of his eyes [covered with sweat] and shed his thick, bulky winter coat.
More room to swing a sword that way, of course. The sword was his trusted companion. He thought, as he pulled it out, that he hadn't seen Mal -- his other companion. And hoped, mind a bit fuzzy with fatigue at this point, that Mal was actually still okay, and hadn't been carried off by some bird or something.
He took aim at a bird who'd made it through a hole somewhere [he hadn't paid attention] and swung.

Sylvia gave a smile to Rob as he took over Beth's end of the settee, "Sounds good." She watched as Beth took off with the cushions, then maneuvered with Rob to follow with the couch and get it ready to go up against the window once it was patched.
They made it in time for the window to be properly stuffed, then waited for Misha to feel secure in leaving. Once she gave the call, Sylvia did her best to move quickly and make sure the settee was solid against the ground and properly covering the window with enough force -- at the right angle, it held the cushions in place as well.
When it was finally in place, she gave a good nod, "Good work." She smiled at those around her and sighed out some of her exhaustion, her muscles becoming quite sore with the continued use of the day. But someone had called for help in another room, and she there was no rest until the birds were taken care of.
"Did someone else call for help as well?" She turned back to the hall to seek out anyone else she could assist. "I'm going to go check. Good luck!" She gave a nod to those staying to deal with the birds or departing in a different direction.

Zebulon looked around in the kitchen for anything else that might be of utility.
Ah! Steak knives!
That would definitely be useful. He picked up the few that were remaining and peeked outside of the kitchen for any more holes that were forming in the walls. There appeared to be a couple in this dining area that were not attended to yet, so he took the knives and pushed them through the holes as far as they would go before they stuck, in an attempt to not only seal the hole but also damage any birds that attempted to come near those areas again.

He caught Zebulon's movements out of the corner of his eye and spared a quick glance his way to check on him. But that was all he was able to spare before having to turn his attention back to what he was doing. Diryas, gratified by his success in the previous attempt, tried again and managed to score another hit with his whip. It was not a good as the first one. The bird did not go down. However, he could tell he had damaged it due to its sudden erratic flight movements. Hopefully, he would be able to take it out with another attempt, though he might be better off damaging a third bird. Damaging them, even if he did not bring them down, would reduce their ability to damage the others, after all.

Somehow, perhaps by a stroke of luck but preferably by skill alone, Brian was able to strike another bird square in the chest. He scanned the room quickly, just to see if anyone needed any specific help, and continued.

Beth let out a bit of a scream as she was pulled to the side, landing heavily on her arm. She hadn't noticed Misha's counting or the settee on its way. She was too busy concentrating keeping birds out using only a couch cushion. After a moment to inventory that she hadn't been injured in the process, she stood, grabbing Misha's discarded shield and handing it off.
She panted, glancing at the walls as she tried to catch her breath. There was no way the hotel could have stood against the birds. Even with all of their fortifications, it was all they could do to patch up the new holes being torn into the walls. As she watched, she thought she saw wood splintering at the footboard of the wall opposite her. She took a few stumbling steps toward it and took hold of an upturned vase with a large fake plant, shoving it against the beginnings of the hole. "Stop it!" She screamed into the waxy leaves, kicking the vase to make sure it wouldn't budge. "Just go away! Her voice was akin to a squeal, but at this point she was desperate enough to survive that she didn't care.

Since he had a couple of the steak knives left, he left the dining room area to look for a few more holes he could plug up.
Hearing the sounds of birds hitting against the walls, Zebulon turned to find that there was a hole rapidly forming where it seemed like a bird was trying to make its way in. Hell no. Zebulon brandished one of the two knives he had and headed towards the wall, before suddenly turning it and smashing it through the hole that had formed. On the other side, he heard some sort of odd screech, which made him presume he actually had knocked the bird back.
Nice try.

Sylvia wandered through the halls and eventually found a room where a younger brunette girl was staring down a couch near a window that wasn't enforced. She assumed that perhaps this was where a call had come from before and stepped in, "Need some help?" This couch was slightly bigger than the settee she had just worked with, but hopefully adrenaline was enough of a push to make up for any tired muscles at this point.
She walked in and stood at one end of the couch, waiting for the other girl to pick up her end. Luckily, they didn't have to get it too far before they were at the window, and then it would just be a matter of setting it up and making sure it was sturdy.
There didn't to seem to be much left around Briiva to pile against the walls, so she instead opted to try fighting the damn birds. She Strung her bow quickly and took aim at a crack in the window, and missed entirely. The arrow buried itself soundly into the wall, well away from her target. "s**t!"
