She was nervous. She had been told that without her, the kingdom would fall. The redhead was still unsure, even though the kingdom hadn't always been there for her... but she still had to do her part.
The line was short, and Marosa found herself wiping her palms on her pants, checking her front shirt once more to make sure the bindings were in place. It was true that a woman could be a knight, but the men had so many more opportunities than the women did - from what she could tell.
She could also have been completely wrong, but...
Standing next to the box, a figure cleared its throat. She realized she was holding up the line, and scampered forward to kneel down, placing a clenched fist over her heart.
"I pledge my service to the Great King and the Great Knights. I will uphold the Knight's Code and protect this kingdom against the darkness."
Marosa felt a little strange at first, her whole body tingling with an emotion she couldn't quite place. And then the screaming began in her head. The buildings burning, the fire, the horsemen chasing the villagers while she tried to find a place to hide...
Nowhere was safe. Even her fellow "friends" - the thieves in the small group she'd been solicited into - had perished at the hands of the horsemen. Marosa had never been proud of stealing things, but it seemed that she was the lone survivor by luck or fate, running being her only option.
Every footstep she made seemed to be traced, feeling like the horsemen were on her heel, catching the back of her feet and making her heels bloody...
And then, just like that, the memories were gone. She stood up and gazed at her hands, wondering why they were sweating, and why she felt an incredible weight lifted off of her shoulders.
She didn't quite understand what she had been worried about. The kingdom would take care of her... and she would fight for it as best she could.
She'd have to find a sword.

Radley was next. The red haired man who looked far too scrawny straightened up after looking very worried, and suddenly... didn't look so worried anymore. Taking a step back nervously, Radley wrapped her hands into her clothing and let out a tiny squeak, not at all sure about herself or what the kingdom really needed her for. Wasn't she just a nobody, a nothing, not really good at anything? Sure, she had a few friends, but she was so deep into her shell that she didn't really know how to break out of it.
When the figure at the box looked pointedly at her, Radley realized that it was her turn and she really couldn't turn back at this point.
Steeling her nerves, the young woman approached the box and knelt before it, pressing her shaking hands against her legs. Radley hoped she would say it correctly.
"I pledge my service to the Great King and the Great Knights. I will uphold the Knight's Code and protect this kingdom against the darkness."
It was a feeling she hadn't quite expected or experienced before, feeling like she'd been plucked out of midair and dropped in the midst of her memories, fire seething all around her and horsemen circling her like she was their prey. She felt a scream in her throat, but it never pierced the air. She was too afraid.
Radley felt a hand on her arm and jerked her head to see who - or what - had a hold of her, tears welling up in her eyes when she realized it was her brother.
"Go!" He screamed at her, pulling her up and launching her away from him. "I'll distract them! Save yourself! GO!" Pushing at her back, he set her off running, her eyes shut with fear and shame as she realized she'd never looked back.
Standing up as the memories dissipated from her mind, she smiled softly to herself, glancing around her at the kingdom. It would need protecting, and mice were always the clever ones, weren't they?

Tyshina noticed that in front of her was what looked to be a cube? A small table? No no it had to have been a massive box.
For some reason though she wasn't all that nervous and she couldn't figure out why. Even though she had heard this box was important in someway and to fear it. She didn't, but she kept that part to herself. Since she truly had bigger concerns, like the fact all of she remembered in her mind.
Which was all she knew right now was her name, this box, and how she needed to be a knight or the kingdom would fall. No other memories remained in her mind, and that was really the only thing that slightly bothered her. While it did bother her she also felt slightly lifted in spirits like a heavy burden had been taken away along with her memories. "Maybe, all, and all this isn't so bad," she whispered to herself as she joined the line to pledge.
The line itself wasn't very long and Tyshina found herself eagerly awaiting her turn as a smile popped on her face. As she waited she thought long and hard about how she could be a knight. One with a gallant sword and defending those who could not defend themselves. How much fun it would be and how she could maybe even be making a difference in this land.
Though she knew it was true she a girl, and not a guy- with the world at his hands. Maybe if she worked twice as hard they wouldn't see her as a girl, but just as knight who could and would make a difference.
With that final thought she felt a presence and she looked ahead of herself. It was her turn. She smiled brightly and without fear she knelt down before it. As soon as her knee touched the ground, she clenched her fist and placed it over her excited heart.
With her voice strong and proud she spoke.
"I pledge my service to the Great King and the Great Knights. I will uphold the Knight's Code and protect this kingdom against the darkness."
As she spoke the words she began to burn up. Her blood boiling and heart racing. The burden that had once felt lifted was back and all she could see at first was smoke.
Then all of the sudden memories flooded her mind. Memories of fire and burning and screaming. She could her the painful screams in her head as she looked around.
Houses were burning and inside she could see bodies of those that once were like her. Though now they were nothing but fleshing being burnt away by the flames.
She could see people running all around her and in her head she knew know where was safe but from what. At that moment she noticed the horsemen, riding around all proud as they took life after life. No life was safe from them.
In her mind she knew this village wasn't just any village it was her home. The place that before the horsemen came was bustling with life and joy. She was at a place she called home. A place where she at a family. Her mother screamed at her to run, and her father pushed her out the back door. As her feet passed through the threshold she could her them say "We love you" as the horsemen came and tore there family apart. Burning all of what she knew to the ground.
Tears began to cross her eyes as she ran and tried not to look back. She dodged the trees and branches just like on the days she would when she gathered berries or hunted for food. She was apart of her towns gathers, the ones that helped collect the would that would be sold or eaten by her family.
Though now that was all gone and as she disappeared in the woods, she vowed she would find a way to help stop this madness and let her parents death not be done in vain.
The darkness over came her mind and suddenly the memories disappeared. She couldn't remember anything except her heart was on fire and her fist was clenched tighter than she remembered.
She stood and smiled, not knowing what happened but knowing this was her home now. A home she vowed to protect no matter what the cost might be.
As she walked forward she looked around knowing she needed a sword. It was the weapon that would help her keep her vow.

My character's name: Tyshina Character's journal link:X BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF MY CHARACTER She has long straight blonde hair all tied back with a red bow. Her eyes a light shade of green, that her smile enhances every time she grins her toothy grin. Tyshina is in all honesty a sweetheart who loves making people laugh and can always be seen with a smile. Though she is also short-tempered, jealous, not always honest with her feelings, and troublesome to some. Rank of character Knight-apprentice
The world was burning, boiled down into a glowing mass to be reformed as something sharper, something deadly, something to be honed and reforged. Whether it was a weapon of peace or something of vengeance was no concern to the young man. All he knew was that there was nothing for him out in the world. Just this tower. Just this throng of like-minded men and women.
He was tall and broad, often mistaken for a man of twice his age, but said very little. If it hadn't been for his masterful craftsmanship in the forge, they would have thought him Dumb for being so quiet. He spoke when needed, and quite often, he felt words were unnecessary. He preferred the quiet company of the forge, of his hammer, and of the steel and iron.
When the terrors came, he lost no family save for those that worked around him. All he could do was grab a few scattered amount of supplies and run. No tears were shed, although that didn't mean he didn't regret. He wondered idly where his Master had gotten to. Where the other apprentice smiths had gone. There was no question as to what he should do now. The knights would need weapons. They'd need able hands and strong arms. They'd need boys like him.
The line of inductees stretched before him, some filled with rage, some with sorrow, some with some mix of the two. Christof wasn't sure what he felt, but it boiled in his stomach, clenching his fists as he stepped up to the spot. It was his turn.
It was then he said the first thing to leave his mouth since he had fled the burning forge. "I pledge my service to the Great King and the Great Knights. I will uphold the Knight's Code and protect this kingdom against the darkness." It was simple fact, snarled with conviction, his voice rumbling but sure.
Whatever life he had lead before didn't matter. It was all just iron. He was iron, ready to be reforged.
A cog in the machine. The fires flickered in his mind, and with a soft sigh, they went out, darkness.
He was Christof Fell. He knew the sharp end went into the enemy. And he was ready.
