Chel found herself shaking her head with a halfway smile. It wasn't as bright as her usual one, but then, there wasn't a lot of reason to be sunshine and rainbows.
Jack rolled over and Chel stayed on her back for a while staring at the ceiling. Eventually she forced herself up and fumbled for her bag in the darkness. It took a bit to change into her pajamas (she DID have them despite her tendecy to go pantsless) and she bought herself time by throwing away her yogurt and going to the bathroom (god she hated having to walk down the hall to the communal one).
Eventually she had to return to the bed where Jack hadn't moved (or if he did she didn't see). It took some mental control to crawl in beside him. Pushing her nose into his back felt right, and there was momentary peace.
"Sorry if I cry or whatever," she mumbled, arm arching around his side and up to his chest, like an anchor. "Promise to make it up later."

Jack didn't appear to have moved beyond wrapping an arm around his pillow, but her makeup had been examined during her bathroom break and his hair was no longer in a ponytail.
He stirred as she settled in and curled his legs away from her space. "S'fine," he mumbled, half-asleep. "Stop saying sorry. Your cousin's missing, do whatever helps."

"My name's Jack and I'm a cool lone ranger," Chel mumbled back, softening the mocking with a kiss on his back. Jack may have been done with physicality, but Chel never really stopped. The interaction was familiar.
The night did continued and as promised Chel did cry. She tried to stop it, really (there was a point she remembered thinking to herself about how tired she was and that she DID want to sleep and why wouldn't it stop-), but it never really stuck. Little details. Not being able to see Chris get to full hunter. Not being able to ear chocolate chip pancakes anymore without sobbing into them. Would they find his body? Would there be a funeral- did hunters do that?
Life carried on.
