"It doesn't, I guess ... but hey! A deal was a deal." She seemed to shrink slightly. "I guess um ... if you really don't want to that's okay ..."
Jordan was a very bad leader.
She kind of hoped Wren would pull her out so things could stop being awkward.

For a moment Jack though he would actually get away until—
"Oh, just say something," Wren demanded after a few more beats with an emphatic click of her tongue. "You already lost the bet, so spill."
With an obnoxious groan, Jack crossed his arms and looked at Jordan. "What do you want to know specifically?" he asked, voice heavy with resistance. Like a child being dragged somewhere they didn't want to go. "Not that it matters to this mission whatsoever."

Jordan let out a sigh of relief. She would owe Wren a beer later.
"Hm ... are you two like ... an item??" Girly tones and she was leaning in, very curious.

Here we go.
"No."
"Ex girlfriend parted on friendly terms?"
"No."
"Friends with benefits?"
"No."
"What the hell, Jack, what are you?"
"No—Oh. Friends."

Jordan squinted, but she didn't understand Chel and that seemed a good enough indicator that she would understand Jack even less.
"Well I won't bother you anymore um ... I mean ... me and Serah will be watching." She gave two fingers to her eyes and then pointed them at Jack in a "watching you" fashion. "But she's a good girl so-"
Jordan's eyes were elsewhere and she spun around as if something was there. "Horses? Yeah us too ... Um, okay- we're good here. Do you need backup?" Jordan already had her crossbow summoned- she was knightly in nature.
Pause.
"That bad? Well okay, but just say so ..." The crossbow went down, but her fingers were still twitching. She spun back around to Jack and Wren. "Guess the mobile team met with some trouble. I'm sure they'll be fine!" No hunter was ever really fine though.

Chel let go of the button and ducked out from behind the rock again. "Emil take the back one- Jerome be a flag." She kept running, throwing her daggers where she could and then sliding underneath horses to pick them up. It was hapless and reckless, and entirely indicative of who Chel was.
One of the horses went down, and Chel grinned. "Atta boy- nice one Jerome!"
"Chel on your left-!"
The horse hooves came down, and they came down hard.

Jack was happy to stare Jordan down for the length of that watching you motion and challenge it.
"Also," Wren piped up, "you have a thing on your back." She leaned over to look around. "...Is that an arrow?"
"Life is such a lucky division to have someone as observant as you." Normally (grudgingly) respectful of his superiors, Jack's patience wore thin with the unnecessary interrogation.
"Shouldn't you take that out?"
"You leave s**t in until you reach a proper medical station with proper tools and a proper amount of time. Or maybe I like wearing an arrow in my back as a fashion statement."
"Someone's testy," she sighed, proving his point again.
Jack turned to Jordan. "If it's bad over there, send me. I can check the traps on the way back," he added to Wren, who seemed ready to argue keeping him around. Probably to annoy him more.
"At least let me check to make sure it's not poison-tipped—"
"I'm fine," Jack insisted, turning his gaze back on Jordan, not so much pleading to be let go as he was expecting the order.

"Um ... Jack as leader I say you have to get that fixed first!" Jordan smiled sheepishly and pulled a roll of runic bandages from her pocket. It seemed everyone had just taken to the habit of carrying around endless packs.
She took a step closer and said, "I mean we can't fix it completely, but At least let me wrap it up before you go ...?" Jordan couldn't even give an order without it turning into a question.

Not for the first time he questioned how this woman was chosen to be the head of the mission.
"Fine," he eventually relented, crouching so she could see it better. "How bad is it? The mobile team I mean."

"I don't know," Jordan answered honestly, gently easing the arrow out of it's holding spot. "Sorry, sorry!" she said a few times as it came out, wincing at the wound it left.
Then came the process of gently (maybe too gently) wrapping Jack in the grey strips. "Chel said they had it under control, but she also said-"
Jordan went silent and she began slapping the bandages on, not at all quickly but as gently as possible. "Someone was hurt- you have to go now! I'll stay here and protect Wren and the research!"

A knee jerk reaction to the words Chel said and I don't know was to roll his eyes hard, but he kept the impulse down. Easy enough with the arrow being so delicately taken out that he had to endure every wiggle rather than just one hard yank. Jordan's limpid motions might or might not help, but he trusted Owain could cover what wasn't taken care of.
With barely a nod of acknowledgement, Jack loped out onto the path.

On the Other End
"s**t Jordan- Jerome's down. He took a horse to the back, he's gonna be out for a while he-"
The transmission went dead on Jordan's end- Chel couldn't keep her finger on the button when she had two soldiers clawing at her sides and only one free hand. The other one was dragging Jerome's body to the boulder cover. "What idiot even hides in the bushes!" Chel spat at his unconscious body, trying not to think about how much red was staining the ground.
It had all happened so fast. She saw the hooves coming and then in a flash, Jerome was on the ground bleeding where his skin split open. She too was on the ground, but untouched thanks to Jerome's shove.
She peeked up and saw Emil flitting about. "Emil get your a** over here and start bandaging Jerome- Talia flank his a** and make sure they're not interrupted." Chel's hands were a mix of blue and red, her face had a lovely sweat sheen. She stabbed into one of the ghost's chest and blood splattered on her and Jerome. Emil quickly fell underneath her and began pulling out his own bandages. Talia was good about joining them in a timely manner.
"I'm gonna buy you guys some time," she told them. Neither sun protested- this was a typical sun procedure. Chel would play flag because she had seniority and experience.
With her announcement, Chel hopped over the rock barrier and threw herself in between the soldiers. "Over here ya dumb ********>" One soldier went down, but another stabbed a ghostly sword across her bad shoulder. As long as she could stall for just a little longer ...

On the Other End
He was a little winded by the time he reached the ********, maybe there was something in that arrowhead. He'd also forgotten his sunglasses in his rush, but thankfully there wasn't a lot of brightness to contend with this time: just a bunch of dead guys and semi-dead hunters and blood.
Jack wasn't a field medic. He wasn't trained for very much outside of the lab to be honest, and he hadn't kept up his sparring in recent weeks either; the last two fights had proven that. His instinct was to move in cautiously and assess things (technically that was the second instinct; the first was not to engage at all), but the situation only needed a cursory look to tell him that he didn't have the time to. What he saw was a group trying to bandage up and one lone figure in the midst of a mob of them.
He saw the flash of pink and fondly thought, Typical.
Unable to come up with a snappy line for his entrance, Jack instead took great pleasure in removing a charging horse from its legs with a wide swing, side stepping it as it crashed with a ghostly cry and knocked it and its rider into oblivion. It left him wide open for a volley of arrows from supposedly indignant spirits (so much for those gently placed bandages, <******** arrows), but it was absolutely worth it.
"Anyone else in critical?" he asked Chel as he drew closer and fended off a sword swipe, dislodging one of the arrows in his arm by doing so. He tried not to wince.

On the Other End
"Mmm, prince charming comes in with his goddamn sword," Chel mused aloud. "Everyone's fine, just Jerome. Cracked his skull on the ground." A darker look came across Chel's face, and she hoped Jack would understand- tell you more later, kind of busy.
Chel certainly hadn't been lacking in things to do before Jack had arrived. Her hands were red and the rest of her body screamed blue- the body count must have been up in the twenties by now. They were easy enough to take out, but it was the horses that were doing the most damage. She couldn't even get remotely in range of the enormous killing machines. "Can you get the horses?"
She did her best to take out a few more soldiers, but her shoulder was throbbing. One of her daggers went flying and impaled a strangely scaled soldier. She didn't bother retrieving the thrown metal, instead just converting to a one-handed dagger style. Better she not move her shoulder as much.
