why does the new search default to OR? if you search for [NPC] cow it'll bring up everything that has either NPC or cow in it, and what i was actually searching for was back like 30something pages.
It seems like the new search engine default to " OR " instead of "AND" , and you need to put "NPC and cow" in order to get "AND" results. I will look into changing that behavior.

So. I have zero subscribed threads. But it says I'm subscribed to 3, but they're blocked topics... Is there a way to make that obnoxious red text disappear, or am I doomed to be stuck with it forever? Also, is it possible that these are threads that were made by banned accounts or something, and are no longer visible?
I will add a function to automatically remove blocked threads in the subscribed threads page.

Events Gaians are getting banned for no reason in Chatterbox by a newer forum moderator who is clearly misusing his/her job/status (https://www.gaiaonline.com/forum/t.105647577_31/). Would you consider looking into this?

I checked that thread. A user quoted another user (who had not even posted in that thread) stating "people are getting their accounts banned", but supplied no names of who was banned. They further stated a particular moderator was responsible, again with no specifics. Which in turn inflamed other users over the supposed injustice of mods. All over no evidence in the slightest.
If someone has an issue they can come to me with specifics. Until then, it's just gossip that has no purpose other than to make users like you upset over something that may or may not be true. Once I can look into it we can see if there really is an issue.

Features: Forums The "View Forum Moderators" link has gone missing from the top of the Extended Discussion (at least in Firefox). A bug thread contains a suggestion that it has become hidden behind the subforum box (perhaps due to word-wrap?), but hovering in the vicinity doesn't work for some of us. Can a dev with the latest Firefox browser give it a look?
Maybe allowing more width for the forum path would eliminate the wrap, leaving space for the link (my screen is plenty wide, so that path doesn't need to wrap where it does).
We will fix the bug this week.

A few months ago, some of us were having a problem where we couldn’t un-equip our kin (the animated one that shows in the forums). That seems to have been fixed, so belated thanks! However... today, I was looking to see the new kin next to my avatar and… nothing. There are no kin anywhere in the forums. Is this bit possibly glitched now or were they maybe removed for some other reason?
I did try clearing my cache, undoing my adblocker, checking “show all images,” and all that fun stuff. Still no kin bouncing next to me. (I’m using the latest version of Chrome, but I also checked Firefox.) I'm not sure if it's just me experiencing this so I haven't posted in the bug reports forum yet. Just noticed it a little while ago.
Uh oh, we optimized some code and that seem to have broken kins being loaded. We will have this fixed this week.

When using the Quick Reply box and the post requires a CAPTCHA the JavaScript still — after Lanzer said he fixed it — throws an error.
Sorry I missed your message last week. Please tell me which browser you were using as I just tested with Chrome and it worked for me.

Currently that's not available for moderation reasons (such as people trying to avoid a thread being reported). You can ask a moderator to help delete a thread if you wish.
Uh..account? Is there a way to request that all of our previous posts be deleted or hidden (except from staff of course) if we want to "start fresh" so to speak?

Here by accident? go back to the forum index and try again. This tends to confuse a lot of people, making them think the forum is broken, and Paws have to explain to them why they can't get it. Could you guys change it to instead explain why they can't get in to make it less confusing?

In the previous AtS we had asked about the Paws subforum either being unlocked to all users (which was answered with it having been requested that it be a special place just for paws), or that the error message be changed so that non-paw users know that they need to be a paw instead of just thinking that it was indeed just an error (broken link, etc). I've had several people PM me thinking I had blocked them, when I was actually posting them thanking them for their contributions to the Spirit Week we held this past week for Paw-versary!
My question: What has the conclusion on this been? Is there going to be a notice saying "you must be a paw to enter" or something to that effect?
(I always imagine those "you must be this tall to ride" signs at amusement parks.)

As of right now we think we are going to stick to it as being a Paw only forum. Paw users did ask for a place all their own and we agree it's not a bad thing to have.

Why are we reminded every time we surf through the forums of how many topics we're blocked from? This feature serves no purpose other than to annoy, bring down and irritate users who are here on Gaia to get away from drama and have a decent experience. I encourage you to consider removing it, as again, it really does serve 0 purpose and it's just another line of code taking up space. I have heard nothing but complaints about it and how annoying it is. ^_^" I mean, who cares if someone has you blocked? You most likely did something that upset them or vice versa, and if it's water under the bridge then the user knows how to unblock at any time.
Okay we will look into removing the message.

Question directed at Jak Bauer, but any Gaia Dev can answer it. sweatdrop A few months ago, Jak Bauer said that there will forum rule changes to the AMC forum along with many other forums as well, but this has yet to have happened still. These forum rules changes were a plan last year I was told as well.
Is there a plan to still update the AMC's woeffully outdated rules and other forums rules as well during this year? I would love to hear an update concerning this on this important issue. surprised

Hey devs! For some reason whenever I try doing forum search, the oldest post it will give me are from December 2018, any way this could be put in the list of glitches to be fixed? sweatdrop Its impossible for me to find specific threads that were made before this date.
We had been running a script to populate older threads to the search engine. Looks like it haven't been working correctly. I will need to look into this. Sorry.

A few weeks back now, I asked if we could maybe get a fix for the subscribed threads thing, where some users are seeing "Topics Blocked: #". These are threads that could be anything from deleted (because of bans), blocks, or moderator removed threads. We can't unsubscribe from them. Can we please have something that removes those? It's driving me bonkers that every time I visit my subscribed threads page, I have that little red text banner across the bottom.
To tie this together with another request in the past few weeks from some users -- it'd also be really cool if we could stop seeing the number of threads we're blocked from/have blocked in other forums too.

Yes we finished working on the issue of displaying blocked posts from showing up in threads and blocking blocked threads from showing up in Forum Pulse, will work on the subscribed threads issues next.

Question: I have been noticing that the quote function is not working properly. When I hit quote on a user, the quote adds extra spaces in the codes, which make the quote break and not show up if you submit without deleting the extra spaces.
I haven't heard of this problem before. Please let us know which browser you are using, as well as any detail as to where exactly does the spaces appear. Thanks.

There seems to be an issue that after equipping the kin to you in game, that after a few minutes it won't show up with your avatar in the forums unless you go back and reequip it. Some of us like to showcase kin that way, so it's disheartening to have it there for a moment and then vanish.
We'll look into that bug. We did made some changes to optimize the code and it might need some debugging.
I just tried to report a thread whose OP has been edited to be empty (it's meaningless, therefore spam, at least in the Extended Discussion). I got a data error, so it can't be reported. An exception handler is needed closer to the reporting mechanism so the report can still go through even if the OP is null.
Please provide us with the thread id and we can look into fixing the reporting issue.

Can you please fix the Mothership fourm and make it accessible? There are some very important user guides/archives on the event in there; and It's just not user accessible.
I don't think that was an intentional thing. The Event foums are supposed to be archived, all the other event forums were moved to memorable threads, so people could read through them.

Not the position of the Flair image is in the ".user_name" div for left facing avatars, but is a sibling of it for right facing avatars. While it's obviously not an issue from a visual standpoint or for Gaia itself, for GaiaUpgrade that grabs the username it creates weird spacing. I can go in and fix it (and probably will), but I think for consistency sake it should be the same.
Also as a side now, how is that not use one HTML view and then just programmatically set the position of left vs right things, namely just the avatar image.
Whoops, I fixed that for Guilds but not forums I think. That layout was made 12 years ago, not sure what was going on back then. smile

Feature Change Gaia has long since used BBCode. BBCode is relatively archaic on the internet now. Would you be willing to migrate from BBCode to markdown? Especially given that you’re using TinyMCE for the mobile app, but the converting the WYSIWYG HTML to BBCode (and then back to desired HTML?). Markdown examples with TinyMCE https://www.tiny.cloud/docs/plugins/textpattern/ This comes to mind often when I want to use the CODE tag, but inline. There’s no inline, but there’s also no syntax highlighting (JS, PHP, Python, Java, etc).
Obviously this would be a fairly big project since many areas that accept user content allows for BBCode. So I’m not saying it should be the next big project, but maybe sometime this year? 3nodding
I've been looking at Markdown a lot, and I like the simplified syntax more than the lengthy bbcode. I can implement a backend that can decode both types of markdowns, hopefully it won't be too much of a burden on the servers.

if you link to a direct post, and you click on it, you only get taken to the page and NOT to the post.
even if the #post number is there in the link, if you hover over the link it doesnt even show that its there. and thus only goes to the page number.
i have many charity games that require the link to the post, and this is very very very obnoxious and makes it incredibly hard to do some things !!
That feature is still working for me in Chrome, and all the anchor links are still present. Might there be any plug-ins that might be blocking this function on your browser?

Mine seem to only appear right after I submit a forum post, which means that I see it on the temp page telling me what platinum I earned -- a page with a short timer that then redirects me to my new post in the forum.
Clicking on a flying item and then clicking on the claim is a challenge when the source page has only a three-second timer on it. One slow page-load in the two-step process means failure (and probably showing up in your stats as an absent user, possibly non-human).
So my suggestion is that flying bonus boxes, chests etc to claim should avoid temporary pages that have short fuses to redirects. If end-user behavior has triggered a human-present test, please hold off until after the temp page has issued its redirect, and then offer the prize on the destination page.
Once a user is offered a floating item such as the chest, the chest will show up again shortly if it has not been claimed for one reason or another. We will look into having it avoid pages that refresh automatically.

there's something off with the create post page:
Can you open up the developer console on your browser, select console log and see if you spot any errors while the page is loading?
Change the fullbody avis back to headshots in posts/threads? I know that everybody wanted their avis to be shown in full in their posts and threads on the mobile forums, but for people who have smaller phones (mine is 4.5 inches) the avatar takes up so much space, making it more tedious than it needs to be when scrolling through comments. The previous version with the headshot was much better, and if you want to see the fullbody you can just click the info button next to people's names anyway. So please, either change it back or give us the option to make it fullbody or headshot!
We will look into adjusting avatar display size as an option or as an autodetect setup. Space is precious on mobile and we definitely want to have the best experience possible on smaller phones.

In the Battlefields forum some of us have found that we suddenly can't attack/heal others in the thread. I am part of a team, aren't dead and have the mp when this occurs. I've noticed that the team icon below my hp bar is blank as if I'm a spectator. It seems to be happen randomly and when it does happen I seem to be only bugged in that thread. I can attack/heal if I join other threads.
Could someone look into this please?

Any news on when anchor posts are going to be fixed? Directly linking posts has been broken for a long while now, throughout many features on the site. I've tested between many different browsers, on both mobile and desktop, and between browsers with extensions and with vanilla browsers, and it's broken on all of them.
I'm sorry that its not working for you. As soon as I hear about the issue I try your anchor link (https://www.gaiaonline.com/forum/gaia-community-discussion/ask-the-staff-07-may-2019/t.106172016_49/#49) and had no problem. Please check your browser's console log and see if there might be errors causing the anchor to not work, and post here or PM me if you see any errors. I'd like to find out what is causing problem for you.
