items So there are many times when I like to use older items. Items for which the artists may no longer be present on Gaia. In these cases, when I find a bug in the item and post it in the item bugs thread, is it looked at? Who fixes the artistless items? Who is this superhero willing to fix one of the longest standing bugs that ruins a favourite avi:
We still fix issues with older items! If the original artist is no longer around, someone else usually takes a look at it. But unfortunately not everything can be fixed.
As far as I know, the glitch thread is mostly up to date. If you posted something a while ago that hasn't received a response, go ahead and repost it for us to look into!

Items Have you guys considered using Creative Commons content as inspiration for items?
Sometimes there are some limitations but if it's something like CCBY you would probably just need to put the BY part in the item description or on a separate page featuring all BYs you might have. Creative Commons content feels like it is becoming more accessible so I think it would be a decent resource to look into.
A lot of things just went into the public domain this year too. It's items from 1923 but hey, that was a pretty cool time in history, I'm sure some ideas can be gleaned from there as well. That content may be a little slim as archives work through getting it digitized but each year we'll be getting more and more. Next year will be items from 1924

At some point in the future when things are perfectly stable across the board, it would be kind of nice to have a month or two with no new items. Put some older items that people have sky-rocketed the price for up for grabs.
It's just really hard to keep up with new items because there is always a new one. There isn't even much of a wait time between new items.
If there are items that go unlisted that you think need rereleasing, feel free to always request it in this thread: What Items Would You Like to See Re-released? Just take note of what can and cannot be rereleased. Between the re-release item gens that go out daily and the weekly updates we see rotate between the other cash shops, we do our best to tackle as many items that need re-releasing.

Where can i find a full item list of all Monthly Collectible and Evolving items ever released on Gaia? Been searching for weeks now and the MC museum doesn't exist anymore.
I really love masks and I don't feel like there's enough on Gaia. Since Majora's Mask got a remake, do you think it'd be a possible to do an EI/set based on a bunch of masks? Or possibly just items from the game?

'Name tag' items -- Gaia's Gift / Gift of Aquarius [thats just what i call them, i feel the name fits, rather than.. name swag or something... blah, semantics]
i like the new name tag items, i like the idea, and i like where they can go however if youre going to release them regularly, please have a schedule thats listed [like the old MCs, everyone knew theyd open on the 15th, but they started and ended at the beginning/end of the month -- however these new items we havent been told anything]
dont just bank on exclusivity - yes you guys have relied on it for a long while [considering the limited quantity items, and the chance items, and things like that] however if the site is hurting for money, and if someone wants to throw money at you for the item, why not let them buy it?? [not like youre going to run out of pixels.. but you can run out of money]
my idea is: - keep the normal page that you have for the gaia's pledge page, but make it so you can click between the different announcements perhaps, as if they were each a sales page - show the end date of whichever current name tag is being offered/featured [i.e. the gift of aquarius] - but when the deadline is reached, it goes to being 5$ instead of 2.50. that way you get 2x the money for people still wanting the item, they can buy it even if theyre new, or missed previous releases, and everyone wins. [and/or also have it available for gcash for those who cannot directly pay, that way people spend their gcash and it would be the equivalent of 5$ in gcash -- that way the 'exclusive factor' to buying it early is that 1. its cheaper and 2. you get it first, and we all want things first] - this way you can have 1 or 2 featured name tags [so you can have one up for like, valentines day, as well as the zodiac symbol if you were to do the zodiac symbols for the entire year]
the only thing i wouldnt want to see with this, is you abuse the deadline and set it to like 2 days or 1 week on special random name tags keep it fair, keep it simple, monthly releases are just fine, even if you have 1-2 items to choose from
i think doing ONLY the zodiac symbols would be a bad move. because yes you get a colored name but the only people who would care about the symbol are people who ARE that symbol [or are really into homestuck, lol] and then you have to factor how many of the people who are actually that symbol - how many would actually buy it. yes there are those who would buy it just to sell it on the MP, or just to support the site, but lets be honest its not nearly as popular as a halo, or a diamond, or a heart, or something more universal.

Question Category I read through the FAQs and I was going to ask if items released through the Gaia Rewards will be re-released in some other method but ... are you seriously locking items gotten through the Gaia Rewards to the account that purchased them? neutral
Are you referring to soul-binding of items or if an item earned from the program, being exclusive to the program? If for whatever reason an item is soul-bound, we would be sure to make it clear (although I see no plans of doing this any time soon). All items that go into the store are eligible for re-releases.

We intend on featuring coupons as rewards. If you redeem a coupon, it will be locked to your account and you will not be able to transfer it to another account.

Sorry it's still not ready. We assigned an artist to work on the item a while back but things didn't work out. Right now resources are tight be we haven't forgotten about the item and will work on it as soon as we can.
I just wanted to extend another Happy Black History Month to all of Gaia and the amazing African American users who are here today! I can say that I personally have been going out of my way to read amazing accounts of African American people throughout History who have saved lives and those who have excelled during times of oppression. This is a time for celebration of life and overcoming adversity.
I wanted to take this opportunity during Ask the Staff to really explain why I think a recolor or two of Strength of the Pride and/or Watchful K’onjo would be good for the overall morale of the site. I feel like it is highly beneficial for Gaia to be inclusive of more cultures in this divisive time that we live in, I understand that financially it is easier to play it safe but during this Black History Month I am a paying customer who is crying out for representation that I am willing to pay for.
I understand that the two items I hoping to see be recolored are not the usual items that Gaia recolors. In fact Watchful K’onjo has never been recolored and Strength of the Pride only received a few (which I personally am not a fan of since two have Ombre on the hair and I simply did not like how that look translated onto Strength) so I wanted to personally give a suggestion pool of color schemes that would work with these lovely items!
Starting with Strength of the Pride suggestions
Rosepink - (Extra note that I think it would look best with Offblack hair with the headscarf being Rosepink and Ivory) Dusk Rose - (Extra note that I think it would look best with Offblack hair with the headscarf being Dusk Rose and Ivory) Decay - Goshiki - (Extra note that Goshiki looks really nice with Black or Offblack to offset the vibrance of the color scheme) Wispberry - (Extra note that Sketchbook Brown hair would look amazing) Wild Ride - Pride of Hera - (An older item suggest from a friend that this item would also look great in more vibrant color schemes) Gift of the Goddess (sleeves) - (These mocks were done by Stanford Conditon)

There is a lot of other colors featured in Black Panther that would be perfect for either of these items. I know that people really liked how the original Strength of the Pride was not in an existing color scheme and it would be awesome to see a creative recolor for it to come out like that again. The Wakanda armor colors would be a GREAT addition to either item I think.
Sorry for this post being so big but I am very passionate about these items receiving more attention because there is only so much existing African representation to use.
Happy Black History Month, Golden Boleyn. I'll pass your suggestions to the art team. There's definitely more that we can do for representation of African American people, and many other cultures for that matter.

About the newer pledge items-
Can you please put in the description or somewhere when there is a glow and when there isn't? I was really upset when I purchased that Valentine's Gift and there wasn't a glow and no way to try it on/see if it had one or not. Thanks.
The pledge items which you purchase from the Gaia pledge page are the ones with the glow, while other forum flares are available through events and other places. We definitely need a better definition between the pledge items and forum flares. Sorry for the confusion.

A few weeks ago someone mentioned that a whole lot of rigs have the 'continue' and 'stop' buttons on top of each other, or widly spaced out, or in other odd positions, and I believe Lanzer said to make a list of the ones that do that. Where would one go about posting such a list? Would it go in the bug report forum? Or should it be messaged to a staff member?

With February coming to a close, we still haven't seen hide nor hair of these birthstone items that have been alluded to by staff members and even the Pledge page. Are they really in the works? If they were to come in, say, March, would January and February's birthstone items also be available all month long?
Sorry I made a mistake in the pledge page about the brithstone item. I'll need to correct that. We currently don't have birthstone items for 2019 planned.

When I mentioned different, I was trying to elude to Zodiacs being the something different—everyone has one (or some may argue two, if they're on the cusp!) and we wanted to present it in a new format/visibility!

items i've been asking about this for months with no answer from the item glitch thread so i'm hoping to get an answer here. for the past year and a half (maybe even two years), i haven't been able to use this item for skintone d (the one i am currently using) this has ben really frustrating and i'm hoping to get a fix for this soon. do you know when a fix will be made?

Not as far as I know, I think the prizes are changed moving forward, and we might add other ways to earn the old items later on.

Question: Does the staff ever plan to re-enable the movement of Astra items again? I assume that the coding would need to be migrated. I noticed that the Kindred Lake companions still have movement.
For the time being, Astra items can't animate because of most browser's flash animation restrictions. LK items are actually animated through animated GIFs so they're not affected. Many Astra items have very intricate flash animation effects that cannot be easily translated into animated GIF's unfortunately. The amount of work required would be significant unfortunately.
Oh, we should have thought about it. Not sure if we can make a flair in time as everyone is pretty busy but I'll ask around.

i know you can no longer use the animation on the items however will you still keep them around so we could use the static pose of them??
personally, i never used the animation, but loved a lot of the astra items just for their static pose! so i would really love it if you could keep them around, even if youre not making them animated anymore.
maybe remove the animated pose from them ?? so later on people dont question why its there, or have their avi break because its no longer functional?
also perhaps with this, you can remove them from their own tab in the inventory, and just put them in the equip tab?? [i mean theyre already there, but if theyre no longer being supported, just put them solely into the equip tab]
Yes Astra items will still be around, and eventually the animated pose will no longer be available. It's unfortunate that flash support is going away.

Casual reminder that it's been two and a half years now since Hero's Journey has updated. I know you've apologized for it before and have made vague promises about the art team working on it, but that doesn't change the fact that this EI is clearly not being worked on. Why was the ball dropped so badly on it, and will we ever actually see it finished?
I'm very sorry, we have had many back and forth with the art team on this issue. It was assigned to one of our artist but that artist had left the team and the status had been on limbo since. Resources are tight right now but I hope we will be able to finish the item in the near future.
Was the premium sparkle on items purposely disabled or is it a bug that has been overlooked for the last couple of weeks?
It's on our bug list, sorry it's taking a while to fix. Got a few nasty issues recently which only delayed other bug fixes.

Items Can we please get more items with transparent arm, leg, body mods? instead of certain colored skin tone mods.
Due to avatar limitations, things like this can only work if the arm are over the base body so it can be masked and match the skin. While its something I think we would all love, it is very limiting.
So as the "creator" of the talker, I have a few things to note on this.
1. When talkers were originally released, they were direct pulls of the mouths and unaltered, so it was meant that we would keep them in those spots just so you can use different eyes with it. In the past however I have made adjustments of a few. For this one, I did test both genders and thought the placements were okay based on the original mouths. My thinking is that once you move the mouth too much, it immediately loses the charm of the positioning it had and just becomes an average mouth.
2. For those 3, i will consider going in a making adjustments however, will they be in a perfect location for use with every beard or eye mod? Probably not. With a lot of mouths, putting them in the "correct" spot is not something that works for all of them.
3. I will also look into the mouth that doesn't play well with darker skin tones and make it work the best I can for everyone. I didnt know the original face didn't work that well on darker skins before I pulled the mouth.
Originally I planned to address these concerns on release date, however I was moving and without internet but I wont pretend I wasn't hurt by a few of the comments on it...but i digress!
I will look into edits now.

Gentle request for literally any African American, Native, Hispanic and Indian cultural representations translated into items!
Turning marginalized people into a commodity probably isn't the best look imo, even with the best intentions.
It’s about representation because there really isn’t any especially Spanish cultures who have amazing dancer outfits that they could do. There are options if they really cared to make more people feel welcome in their own skin and cultures here.
As a black man, I get the sentiment, but representation doesn't work like that, especially where money is involved. Even if it's meant as a tribute, if you take designs or ideas from a culture and turn it into something to sell, it's profiting off of the labor and ideas of a marginalized group, full stop. There's way more to the situation than the idea of representation.

There are many different interpretations of it. As a black man as well I can see both sides. Wanting to have something that lets you display you as you see yourself is important tho, and providing users the ability to do so isn't necessarily profiting in the way you mean.
