"I know," she said softly. "I know. Thank you. I just need reminders sometimes." She squeezed his fingers back and brought them up to her lips to kiss. The silence was enjoyed until it was broken.

Some of the tension in his own shoulders relaxed.
"No," said Gale softly, and pushed himself up a little so that he could look down at her profile, muted and quiet in the stillness of the room. "Hey. You're still you. I don't think any less of you." He let out a small sigh. "If anything, I feel like I understand you a little better, even."
He bent his head and pressed a light kiss to her cheek, lingering for a moment.
"Thank you for telling me."

Only then did she open her eyes, turning her head a little to give him a tired but grateful smile. "Mmhmm." And then, lifting his arm, she rolled onto her side, tucked his arm around her again, and curled up against his body. She wasn't quite ready to sleep, but she also didn't feel like getting up either.
"You can tell me anything too," Stormy said. "Whenever. I know you know that, but...reminders and all."

He touched her cheek affectionately and then smiled as she burrowed against him, Gale curling his arm tightly around Stormy's thin body and bending to press a light kiss against her shoulder.
"I know," he said softly, and snuggled against her. There was a pause, and then he said quietly, almost inaudibly, "Sometimes I get really angry at Leslie for leaving me behind. But sometimes...sometimes I forget that I actually did have a twin sister at all, and I don't know which is worse."

When he got home, he stepped inside and closed the door behind him with a certain amount of apprehension. Stormy was there, working on the living room, and Gale took a small breath, walking towards her.
"Hey," he said, and reached out to touch her hand, leaning to press a kiss to her cheek. "It looks great in here."

She didn't say anything at first because she didn't know what was more appropriate: sympathy or empathy. One of her arms slid under his and around, loose but at least a reaction to show.
"It's okay to feel abandoned," she murmured against his shirt. "We both were in a way. Sometimes life isn't fair like that, but the way you deal with it is admirable." Not at all the spiralling depression Stormy had launched herself into for months, things that still clung to her heels rather than at her shoulders if she wasn't careful. "We've got a lot of stuff on our shoulders. I don't think it's so much forgetting as it is accepting she's not here."

She stopped sweeping and greeted Gale with her usual beam as he took her hand, as if there wasn't a sliver of uneasiness in her chest. "Thank you! There were still some pieces of the old wall around, and it was starting to bug me," she said, kissing his cheek in turn. "How's stuff at the office?"

He burrowed his face against her shoulder, because he liked the feeling of them close together. Stormy's warmth was a reassurance in and of itself, and he wanted to wrap himself in it and just forget the rest of the world.
"Sometimes I wonder if I'll see her," Gale admitted softly. "You know, just like...going into pod duty and her waking up just randomly but..."
He trailed off with a small sigh, squeezing Stormy a little more firmly. "Accepting things is hard.

The hand on hers moved to slide around Stormy's waist as Gale momentarily drew her against his side, pressing another kiss to her temple. His stomach gave an unpleasant lurch, but he forced himself to stay calm, to not be emotional over this.
"I think you got most of it," he told her with a small smile. "We'll have to chase out the last few pieces of drywall from beneath the bed, I think, but other than that, it looks nice and tidy."
He almost didn't let go of her, but reluctantly slid his arm away and moved toward the couch, taking a small breath. "The office was good. I, ah...I need to talk to you about...about something." Gale sat down and leaned forward, his arms on his knees as he took another breath.
"It's...it's kind of a big thing," he said, forcing himself to look up at her. "A huge thing, really, and I don't know if it's...good or bad."

She remembered the hallucination with Nevada and hesitated. "You don't have to see her to know," she said after a moment, turning her head a little so she wasn't so muffled. Stormy began to stroke what little of his back was available at her fingertips. "You have memories of her, mi vida. A pod or grave if you need to talk. She sleeps, but at least it's a peaceful one."
She tilted her head and kissed his hair. "Whatever you decide to carry in your heart, though, don't let it ever get so heavy, okay? Or come get me if it does. Toting Thane around makes a lot of things feel like paper in comparison," she said with a weak smile.

She kept up a more gentle smile even when everything Gale said and did suggested she shouldn't. For her, it was an innate reflex to smile when others didn't want to or couldn't, to help smooth things over more by staying optimistic even when it flew in the face of logic: and right now, logic said maybe she should tone it back. But whatever it was seemed to burden Gale...
"If that's the case, I'll make some tea first," Stormy suggested, turning to head to the kitchen. "One sec."
