Have a plan for later, but will need Dev alone for it at some point.
Quote:

Dev turned into the scratching and petting, loving the attention and letting Allistair's touch help him calm down more. Truthfully, he was a little afraid of what Allistair would do if he knew the details of his life with Nashirr. He even gave off a deep rumbling purr as his master petted him and laid his head in Allistair's lap to make it easier for the man to touch him.

Nalyne watched Dev for a few moments before looking at Lily, "There's the truce. While I don't think it's wise for me to leave you alone for the extended period of time it would take to work the details out, I know we need that done soon. What do you think of sending Allistair and Dev? They can even stay there and act as your envoys or representatives, whatever title sounds right for it," he suggested, knowing that Allistair would be perfect in the position.

It would have the added benefit of getting Dev out of his father's reach.

He turned to look at Dev again and gave a small frown, "Dev, you need to eat. Go see what they brought over for you and get a real meal into you. Eating will also help calm your cats," he told the tiger, not really caring if he stepped on Allistair's toes by ordering his slave around. Especially since it was very obvious that Dev really needed to eat.

But instead of doing as Nalyne told him, he lifted his head and turned to look at Allistair. That one act showed everyone who Dev would take orders from now...

Lily
Lily liistened to Nalyne's suggestion and thought about it for a moment before nodding. "Sending Allistair is a great idea, Nalyne," she said. "He's perfect for the role." She watched Dev for a moment when Nalyne gave him an order that he ignored in favor of finding out what Allistair wanted him to do. She took Nalyne's hand and placed a kiss on it. "No need to order Dev around, Love. Allistair will be more than happy to do that." She pulled at his arm a bit, obviously wanting to sit on his lap again.

Allistair
Allistair continued to pet and scratch Dev for a bit longer before Nalyne tried to give him an order. He chuckled and stroked Dev's cheek. "While I don't like him trying to tell you what to do, I'll agree with him this time," he said. "You need to get a decent meal in you. Go get yourself something to eat. And grab a plate for me as well."

Dev gave a sheepish look to Nalyne in apology as he got to his feet but leaned over to give Allistair a kiss, "Yes, Master," he purred softly before finally doing as he was told.

He crossed to the table and put a plate together for Allistair and delivered that, then headed back to the cart and set to turning the extra food delivered into a finished meal. He stayed at the table for it, though, since he wasn't as likely to make a mess there.

Nalyne gave in to Lily, lifting her from the chair before sitting in it and pulling her back into his lap, "It's alright, Allistair. Lily was right that I need to get out of the habit. Truthfully, we both had to bully him into eating during the last two years. So it truly has become a habit. I'll gladly break the habit now, though. Just seeing how he reacts to you is reason enough. He won't really listen to anyone else at this point. Which is a good thing, don't get me wrong on that. I'm glad to see it. I've actually never seen a shifter go through what he did without you. The closest thing to it is the way Mates react when one of the pair or group is killed. It's almost like he was trying to pine himself to death and make someone kill him, both at the same time," he explained, partly because he found it fascinating, but his tone was more amused then annoyed.

But he moved on because they really did need to discuss the issue of the truce, "But I'm going change the subject or I'll be on it all night. We would be honored if you would take the position, Allistair. Lily's right that you'd be perfect for it. And you'll be in place for Ilea when she goes over to help with their security after she's finished getting things taken care of here. I know some of the guards weren't happy with the basic changes she made here two years ago, but they're exactly what we needed right then. With Gurzil looming about, there's no telling where or when he'll turn up to attack so we all need to be prepared.," he settled one hand on Lily's thigh and the other at her waist.

"You should also be ready to explain something else to them... Esabel... She's been taken by Gurzil... And you know how easily it is to lead her astray. There's no telling where he could take her or what he'll be doing with her until she decides to come home," he added, knowing that he was more than right on the subject.

Dev's attention was diverted at the mention of Esabel and frowned over the news as he returned to stand where they could all see him looking at Allistair, "Master? We have to do something for her... Hal loved her... Said that she reminded him of his sister. He didn't say much else about it, but he always found time to spend with her. I'll admit that I refused to spend alot of time with her, but for me it was more self-preservation. I know that if I gave in to playing with her, I'd like it too much. So I just played tag with her in my tiger forms. But Hal spent the most time with her, taught her all kinds of things too," he finally stopped talking and looked down as he went back to the table.

Nalyne frowned over Dev's words, though, and silently wished that he'd met Hal. He'd only seen the human in death but had heard so much about him that he was beginning to wonder if Hal had really been human. As it was, it was a good thing that they hadn't let Esabel in to see Dev over the last two years, even though she'd begged numerous times...

Yet another knock on the door made Nalyne give a pained groan but he was grateful when Dev moved to open the door and took the message then moved back over to them with a frown, “Master Nalyne? When did you put a bounty on Esabel? Apparently someone is at the base entrance asking for you. The guard says that the male has Esabel with him,” he reported, looking very confused.

Nalyne just grinned and pressed a kiss to Lily’s temple, “Forgive me, Princess, but I don’t think you’ll mind my shifting you this time. I’ll get her settled then I’ll come back. I need to find out how much damage has been done. Thankfully that guard, Kas has gotten her room cleaned up. What do you say to rewarding him with that slave he’s gotten attached to over in the pillow room? I think her name is Delilah… The one that keeps shifting to a tabby cat,” he offered with a grin, knowing that she’d insist on it after hearing about the guard’s kindness to her sister.

Dev spoke up again as he moved back to the table, “Kas? He’s a good guy. Loves Delilah like crazy. Keeps bringing her cat toys as gifts and she loves every one. Especially that fuzzy catnip mouse he gave her last month,” he paused there with a pained expression, “I mean… about three years ago…” he corrected himself, finding the memory shifts a bit confusing from time to time.

They’d been at this base about a year before everything went crazy, then he’d lost two years thanks to Hal and Allistair’s deaths. It was more than enough to leave anyone with a few memory shift problems…

Nalyne gave a grin when Lily did, indeed, insist on the reward and gave her a kiss guaranteed to keep her in a good mood before he stood and put her into the chair in his place then headed for the door, giving Dev a pat on the shoulder, “Don’t worry about it Dev, it’ll get easier on you as time goes on,” he tried to reassure the tiger, though he knew that only Allistair could really reassure him on anything. Then he was gone to collect his wayward neice….

In any case, Dev finally finished his meal and put the dirty dishes back on the cart then moved back to sit at Allistair’s feet with his head resting on the man’s thigh, silently hoping that Nalyne was right…

Morrigan
Morrigan didn't get a chance to say much before the door opened and Dev was hugging her. She laughed and scratched his head. "Good to see you again, Dev," she said. "I heard that Allistair had died and you weren't doing well, but I couldn't come to see you. I've been busy in the mercenary group." She leaned in to kiss his cheek. "Doesn't mean I didn't check on you while you were knocked out a few times," she whispered, before stepping back. She looked over to Lily and hesitated for a moment.

Lily
Lily worked on going through papers and working on solving problems, while Allistair flipped through the book that Lily had told him had given them the idea ti bring him back like they did. When the door opened and Dev ran to hug Morrigan, Allistair put the book down and walked over to Dev. He gave him a moment to enjoy the reunion and then took his leash and pulled him close. He kissed him and then whispered a few naughty things into his ear that were sure to get even Dev to blush, and then led him out of the room and back towards his own. Lily stood up and stared blankly at Morrigan for a moment before she walked over to her. She was quiet for a moment before she took a breath and delivered an unexpected punch to Morrigan's face, making her anger and pain over her disappearance quite obvious. But she immediately pulled her into a tight hug right after, showing that she had missed her quite a bit and still cared about her.

Nalyne had expected Lily’s reaction from the punch to the hug. So he simply let Lily and Morrigan alone as he saw Allistair and Dev out, grinning at Dev’s eagerness to be gone. Once they were gone, though, he moved over to Lily’s desk and began to organize her paperwork for her to make it easier for her to finish it all when she had the time.

Only when Lily pulled back from the hug did he speak up, “I know you’re upset with her for leaving, Lily, but hear her out. She has good reason for it and something else to tell you that would be of benefit. Take a good look, Princess… You’ll be able to See what I have about her,” he told her softly, knowing she’d understand what he meant.

She had the ability to look at a person’s soul and see the bonds that they’d made, so she would be able to see that her best friend had found not one, but two soulmates. That was beyond rare and more than enough to explain why Morrigan had left. But he knew that Lily would also be able to see the bond that Morrigan had made to the goddess Pandora, the bond that made Morrigan a very valuable, and powerful, ally to have.

After a moment, he couldn’t help the small sly smile that he gave Lily, “I can sympathize with why she left, Princess… Because it’s the same reason that I stayed…” he added in his way of telling her that he loved her. Of course, he’d clarify that one later for her, but it would get her thinking for now.

Lily
Lily was sitting in her room, looking more exhausted than anyone had ever seen her. She had barely slept since Esabel was injured. And when she did manage to sleep, it was usually ended by nightmares of Nalyne telling her that Esabel was dead, that they had failed to save her. The effort to save Esabel had totally consumed her. At the moment, she was looking through lists of potential babysitters who may be able to heal her 'sister'. She crossed several names off of the lists and sighed in frustration.

Morrigan
Morrigan watched Lily and shook her head. She didn't like seeing her friend like this. The only reason Lily had been able to keep functioning at all in her sleep deprived state was because of help from Morrigan. The Were knew a lot about being unable to sleep from personal experience. Lily had been feeding far more often than normal lately, a trick Morrigan had figured out during her heat. But while it would help Lily keep going, Morrigan had warned Nalyne that Lily couldn't handle it like she could. Morrigan's wolf allowed her to handle it better, even when using the energy boost from feeding to force her vampiric half to be dominant. Lily was pushing her limits in a dangerous way, and Morrigan had warned Nalyne that Lily had to sleep as soon possible, or she risked serious effects to her mind and body.

As Nalyne walked into the rooms he shared with Lily, he was very happy to note that Morrigan was there with his Princess and offered her a small smile, “Ah, Morrigan. Good. Can I borrow you for a moment?” he asked simply and was more than happy when she simply nodded and moved over to him then asked him what he needed.

“Truthfully? I need a shield that can easily defend against flying objects. That would be you, by the way, Sweetheart,” he told her simply. Thankfully, she’d gotten used to him using pet names for everyone and simply went with it, though she did frown over why he needed to ‘borrow’ her.

Then he told Lily about Esabel… From across the room…

He protected Morrigan (and the rest of the base) from Lily’s powers (which she couldn’t use on him in a fit of anger) while Morrigan protected him from the things that Lily threw at him, though they both still did a lot of ducking down anyway as they waited for her to wind down.

It looked like it was going to take a few hours, though…

Partly because they all knew that there was no way to find anyone suitable enough to save Esabel in time… The stasis wasn’t working… He told her that he’d failed, failed to save the nieces he’d come to love so much… If there was someone they could bring in now, there was the tiniest chance… But there was such a small window, such a small chance…

The one pleasure slave that might have been able to do it, Jasker, had been assassinated in the Pillow Room before they could even try… At every turn, they were blocked from saving Esabel, though Ilea’s new guards had stopped more assassins from entering the base and had plans to secure the base even more.

How he knew he didn’t have any choice about the last of the bad news…

There was a lull in the barrage and he got to his feet, one hand on Morrigan’s shoulder keeping her behind the steel counter where they’d been cowering for the last two hours, “There’s something else, Lily… I thought I could find something… I’ve looked everywhere… I’ve tried… You have to know that, Princess…” he started, his voice cracking with what he had to tell her now.

He finally closed his eyes to keep the emotions back just long enough and finally just told her, “Ilea has three months. Then she goes back into stasis. There’s nothing I can do. That b*****d did his work too well with her and I can’t break it. There’s nothing I can do to save her, Lily… I can save one… But I can’t save the other… I was hoping that that wolf of hers would see it and do something… Instead… Instead, I have to watch that… If I could get hold of him right now… If I could raise him again… For what he’s done to them…” he finally had to stop and dropped down to sit with his back to the steel counter next to Morrigan to let Lily rage while he let his own tears flow.

It simply wasn’t fair to him… He was a god, for crying out loud, and he couldn’t save his nieces, he couldn’t protect them, he couldn’t even figure out who the hell wanted them dead….

Of course, he fully expected the slap to the back of his head that Morrigan gave him for being worse than a complete idiot… He completely deserved it… And the punch to the jaw that followed it…

Lily
Lily eventually stopped feeling enraged. But instead of fully calming down, her rage turned into despair. Her legs couldn't hold her up anymore, and she collapsed as tears started to fall. She began to cry as her sorrow became too much. Hearing that there really wasn't anything they could do to save Esabel was crushing enough, but Nalyne's information about Ilea's time limit was what finally broke her. She began to break down as her exhausted mind was forced far beyond what it could take.

But as she broke down, things started to get a bit odd. The lights in the room started to flicker and go out. The temperature started to rapidly drop, with ice actually starting to form on the ground around Lily. Her eyes were turning a blazing gold, and her skin amd hair was starting to turn a pale, ghostly white. Something very bad was happening to her.

Morrigan
Morrigan noticed the lights going out and the temperature dropping and quickly figured out what was going on. She had spoken to Lucy and Anna about the darkness she felt in Lily, and Lucy had told her that it came from Lucy's Revenant when she had possessed Lily to manifest it. As they had talked about it, they had figured out that a small part of the Revenant was still inside of Lily, but that it would take a massive amount of negative energy fot that small part to actually do anything. Unfortunately, Nalyne had just provided all of that negative energy with his news.

Morrigan smacked him on the back of the head and then delivered a good punch to his haw. "You idiot," she hissed. "I know you've been so distracted that you wouldn't notice, but Lily held onto some of the negative power from Lucy's Revenant. Impossible to get rid of, but mostly harmless, unless she gets overwhelmed by negative emotions. Which you just made happen. If you don't figure out a way to calm her down, that tiny piece will grow and consume her. She'll manifest her own version of the Revenant. Lucy can do it because she balances light and dark, but Lily can't handle the transformation. It'll start shattering her bones and cause massive damage to her internal organs. Revenants are dead things, Nalyne. If Lily makes the transition, no one will be able to undo it. So allow me to say it this way. Either find a way to save her life by calming her down, or keep feeling miserable and be the one who killed her."

Nalyne took the head slap and the punch in stride, though he did frown over them. But it was the information Morrigan imparted to him that had him going very serious on her as he thought at lightening fast speeds.

“Alright then. You’re now under full contract and in charge of the Re until I can get Lily back to herself. Get someone for Esabel. Even if it’s just long enough to keep her alive, then knocking her out again. Do whatever you have to do,” he told her simply as he got to his feet and pulled his jacket into place around him along with his full god-powers that were a lot more… alive… than his half-brothers’ had been.

In an instant a very tidy fortune simply appeared around Morrigan with an even larger one appearing in one corner of the kitchen with a metallic clink of coins as it settled into place, “One pile is yours as per contract, the other is your expense account. Use as you see fit,” he told her.

Then he took a running start and dove for Lily, giving her no choice in the matter since use couldn’t use any of her powers against him, then disappeared with her to an undisclosed location that would keep her contained.

While he had her there, he used every single pleasurable trick he’d learned with her, and a few he hadn’t been able to try out on her yet… Then some she didn’t think were even possible…

In short, he wore her out… Then he did it again… And again... And again… Until she finally begged him to leave her alone and slept without dreaming, certainly without nightmares...

Then he introduced her to his family. And did a repeat… Until she cried uncle so many times that she threatened to kick him out of bed forever… Then he said he’d consider taking her home…

Of course, he hadn’t told her how long he’d kept her in HIS home…

In short, he’d kept her away long enough that she no longer had any nightmares. But she still didn’t know the revelation that Morrigan’d had about him… That Death had never touched his life beyond Goh’s death… Though Goh’s death didn’t really count…

Morrigan
Morrigan listened to Nalyne speak and then watched him tackle Lily and disappear with her. She rolled her eyes and then looked at the pile of gold that had been left as her payment. Shadows surrounded the pile and then transported it to the treasury in Sanctuary. Morrigan found herself something to drink and then sat down on a nearby chair. She shivered as she felt Gypsy's desire through her Mark. Even if Ohvan took action to contain it now, the damage was already done. Morrigan's body was already returning to the state it had been in when Ohvan had first found them, returning to the state of heat that she would have to go back to Sanctuary to deal with when Nalyne and Lily returned.

She sighed in frustration and waited for them to get back, her skin already starting to get extremely sensitive. She wondered what she was supposed to do to find someone for Esabel. She knew that a Harvester would be perfect for Esabel. She just didn't know if there were any left besides Ohvan. And even if there were others, she had no way to find one.

Shadows overtook the room, blackening out all light and deafening out all sound. Morrigan's mark, the one that Ohvan had given her was flaring up before the darkness subsided, revealing Ohvan standing before her, and Gypsy in tow. Her mates looked a little flustered, with Gypsy kneeling before Ohvan and a leash around her neck. The Harvester looked up to Morrigan, letting the leash fall briefly before he jumped over the desk and pinned the wolf to the wall behind her, his eyes filled with an intense need that words would fail to describe. "You. Me. Gypsy. The Room." Nothing else had to be said as all three in the room allowed their Marks to fully bloom: their needs, their desires, and their lust were mutually transmitted and shared amongst all three. Ohvan simply scooped Morrigan up and tossed her over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes, holding her there like a horny Neanderthal as he moved back to Gypsy and took hold of the leash. The darkness surrounded them once more, and like that they were gone.

The Dawn Shadow

By the time Nalyne finally brought Lily back, she was back to herself. She'd also met most of his family but hadn't said much to him about it. So he was a little worried about that one.

As he carefully laid her exhausted, and beautiful, self in their bed, he transported their (her) gifts into one corner for her to go through later. At least, the non-living gifts. The horses were transported to the new stables with their new handlers while the hounds specially created for Lily by his sister silently moved into the room and curled up at the foot of the bed.

He gave one of them a pat since they would do anything Lily told them to do and left her to sleep while he went to check on things...

Imagine his surprise to discover that Morrigan's Mate had kidnapped her, Esabel was now alive and thriving, and Ilea was...

He gave a heavy sigh and moved into the kitchen where he started cooking - even though he had no idea what he was doing...

Well, the base was still secure otherwise...

Ilea's attacker was eaten and Esabel's new babysitter really didn't count as a threat now.

If only....

He gave another heavy sigh as he came back to himself and turned to see one of Lily's new hounds staring at him, knowing that he'd been caught and tried to cover it up by moving the ruined meal off the stove, "I'm afraid my sister is right... I simply can't cook anything but hot water," he said softly, knowing that Lily had to be right there.

But he couldn't look at her just yet.

"Seems that Esabel has solved her own problem for you. I expect her to bring him around when she thinks of it."

But he still couldn't look at her yet. Not with what he knew about Ilea. He couldn't say it out loud this time.

Ilea had been so strong for so long. She'd withstood everything Goh had done to her and survived it. And now...

Now... After he'd come to love her so much... He was be forced to do what he'd been sent here to do... What he'd told Lily he wouldn't do...

But there wasn't any choice...

If only David had done what he was supposed to have done...

Nalyne looked down and found a teardrop on his hand where he held the pan and moved quickly to cover it up by putting both into the dishwater.

"Seems that Ohvan needed Morrigan for something with Gypsy but she'll be back if you need her," he said as he cleaned up the pan and covered up for Lily's best friend at the same time as he hoped that his Princess wouldn't notice...

She'd been pretty distracted by whole Prince thing, after all... Maybe that one would keep working enough to distract her from the fact that he was going to be forced to kill Ilea to keep Goh from being reborn since that damned Siberian Wolf wouldn't Bond with his niece...

Lily
Lily stayed quiet for a while as she considered the way things had been going recently. She was back to herself now, though she now carried a single golden ring around the pupil of each eye that showed the Revenant's presence inside of her. She still felt a bit tired, but she had finally managed to sleep without nightmares. But now she was thinking about her relationship with Nalyne and how she felt like he wasn't telling her everything he knew.

She got out of the bed and walked out of the room to find Nalyne failing at cooking. She was quiet for a moment. "Tell me what you don't want to say, Nalyne," she demanded. "Look at me and just say it. You know I love you. I can't imagine ever being with anyone else. But I need you to be honest with me. I can't be with you if you're afraid to tell me the hard truths. Look at what happened before. You waited to tell me about Essy and Ilea's problems, and it almost killed me. Please talk to me. I don't want to have to make you leave." She really did love Nalyne, more than he ever could have expected. But he would be able to see the damage his lack of communication was causing to her. And he would be able to see that she really would end things if he didn't start opening up, even if it meant giving up the only person she could ever love so fully.

Nalyne stopped and let the pan settle into the sink, leaning against the counter for a moment with his head down with his head down, knowing that he couldn’t win this one. He moved slowly away from the counter towards her and dropped to her knees in front of her before he raised his eyes to meet hers, finally letting her see the struggle he’d hidden from her while he’d taken her to meet his family.

While his mother, sister, good brothers, and cousins had distracted her, he’d been in a few meetings with his father where he’d been given no real choice.

“I thought she was going to go back into stasis… I was wrong… I can’t save her, Lily… I have no choice now… I have to do what I was sent here to do but for a different reason… Esabel is now under protection so she’s safe… But Ilea…” he started, finding it harder to say it than he’d expected.

He closed his dark eyes for a moment and fought back the pain that he didn’t know how to handle because it was so unfamiliar to him. He’d never felt this pain before and simply had no idea what to do with it.

He opened his eyes again and looked at her again, not hiding anything from her this time, “You only got rid of Goh’s shortcut last time… There’s still a way for him to be reborn from her. David was the only way for her to live and for Goh to stay gone. If David took Ilea as his Mate, Marked her and took her Mark at the same time, took her as an equal partner instead of as a servant… It would short circuit whatever Goh did to her and allow her to survive and prevent his rebirth. I’ve looked into everything I could think of Lily. I’ve had my entire family looking for a solution for months. Ever since I woke her up,” he explained, his voice finally starting to crack.

“But my father said that we’re almost out of time. Instead of months… She has only a few weeks at best… Her body is already failing her… None of us know how it will happen… All we know is that there was one chance to save her… I warned him… I told him to watch her… I told him… I tried… And now… Now…” his voice trailed off as he lowered his head, still struggling not to let the tears fall.

But he took in a ragged breath and forced himself to look back up at her to finish it, “I’ve been told that I have to finish it, Lily. It’s in my hands now. I have to make sure that he doesn’t come back. Even if the cost is Ilea’s life… Even if the cost is Ilea’s life at my hand…” he finished it and hoped that she wouldn’t hate him for it.

But it was the truth…
