Gage gave a serious tiny nod at the pat. His chest was probably going to hurt later.

Making a mental note to take Din and Cas out shopping. He was sure his father would be more than enraged about the fact his house got burned down and probably insist on giving Gage a large sum of money to replenish whatever he was missing.

Feeling sleepy and without emotional distress seeing as Cas was fine, Gage followed after them in the bubble.

                  (Exit - Gage)

Scarlett watched Icarus's retreating back, the headmaster's announcement echoing in her mind. She didn't really think an improb at this point would help, so she didn't bother. If Gilrin wanted to, that was her decision.

If they were allowed back in the dorms now then Scarlett was going. "...let's go, Gilrin," she said quietly, and started walking, not looking back to see if Gilrin was following or not. They were going to the same place, so it didn't seem to be important to make sure she was coming.

Scarlett sneezed again.

xSlater stepped forward and raised a hand, quieting the students that had been gathered. The Council liked to make a statement, so they had called for a gathering in front of the Oak.
                          beep......beep......beep......beep......beep......beep......beep......beep......beep......beep
Behind him stood the rest of the CEE, and their plus ones. Hau stood next to Asphodel, practically glued to her side. Rowan stood next to his father, staring directly at the ground. (If one looked closely, it was possible to see him trembling.) And standing next to Slater, raspberry-dyed eyes observing the crowd, was the Ekaterina house representative. Everyone was here - even the professors had gathered, with the Headmaster in the center of the crowd, watching the CEE warily. It was a real pity the old man refused to accept the reality that the school was no longer his, but that was life.
                          beep...beep...beep...beep...beep...beep...beep...beep...beep...beep
Slater cleared his throat. "Ladies, gentlemen, and those that do not fit in either category," he began, "we have called this assembly to announce a new consequence for the more... extreme rule-breakers." He gestured to Ian, who stood upright and silent, the absolute model student. "You may have noticed a change in Mister Schiller over the last few months. Mister Schiller graciously agreed to be a sample student to test a Council-approved hex, designed to correct dangerous behaviors. The data provided has been exceedingly useful, and we now have permission to hex... well, any one of you should we have a reason to." A smile tugged at the man's lips. "I trust you will not give us a reason to."
beep. beep. beep. beep. beep. beep. beep. beep. beep. beep.
Ian returned to the crowd, and Slater continued his speech as the Headmaster simmered in the background. "Now, hexing will only be reserved for the most destructive behaviors - anything that proves you are a danger to yourself or those around you. Hexes will be removed if and only the habits of model students have been drilled into you. And, of course," Slater added, and then paused for dramatic effect, "it will be public."
                          beep-beep-beep-beep-beep-beep-beep-beep-beep-beep
Slater snapped his fingers. Ben pressed on Rowan's back, and the Lucian stumbled forward a few steps before regaining his footing. "Mister Lockwood has graciously agreed to help demonstrate what you can expect from a hexing session." Slater made a gesture.
                          beepbeepbeepbeepbeepbeepbeepbeepbeepbeep
                          Rowan swallowed, stepped forward
                          BEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEP
the briefcase ignited, and Merlin's Oak blew itself apart.

xxxx Standing behind Slater made Asphodel feel irritated. It was natural the announcement would be his to make; he was theoretically the discipline enforcer at this shoddy school. Though she stood still with a gentle smile pressed perfectly on her lips, Asphodel was feeling nothing but impatient and mildly annoyed. Why did she have to be around to see Slater act like a happy child on Christmas? God, he was so obvious.

In contrast, the Lockwood brat was trembling so hard Asphodel was considering blowing a gentle breeze through the air just to see if he would fall off the stage. It was a fun idea, one she legitimately considered for a bit before she remembered that Benjamin would probably be able to catch her an instant. Though it was obvious that he didn't care a bit for his son -- and Asphodel, in the depths of her heart, was a little resentful of Rowan to be mostly free of affections from his father -- she wasn't sure how well he would take to having him publicly humiliated.

(Behind her, Hau was marveling at the amount of students gathered in the courtyard. He had to hand it to Slater. For a weird, creepy racist nerd, he had a taste for drama. The big a** tree in the background was a nice touch, one that Hau personally could have never thought of. He wondered if Slater could be a more harmless, redeemable individual if he took up architecture. Or perhaps some sort of scenic redecorating job. It was an entertaining thought, at least, one that kept Hau's mind off the way that the students stared at the CEE with clear resentment in their eyes. ....Not that he could really blame them.)

Asphodel watched Ian walk off stage, refusing to feel a bit of admiration for the fruits of Slater's work. He was a hexmaster through and through, and to the simple eye it would probably be impossible to see that the boy had anything....questionable going on with him. I'm surrounded by a group of vipers, She thought mildly to herself, and then felt a little touch of pride that Eleanor by her side was one of them.

The Lockwood child was stepping up, ready, and then--

Her eardrums felt like they were busting open. Asphodel turned without really thinking to the source of the sound, but the view was quickly blocked by Hau stepping behind her. There was a arm reaching out to grab her and angle her away from danger, to press her into a body that had stepped behind her to take the brunt of a force that sounded ominously of wood, splintering.

"ELEANOR," Asphodel shouted, and grabbed the arm of her dearest friend to tug her towards the shield that Hau was so graciously providing with his body.

Muna had no idea how he had been coerced into gathering in front of the tree. He wasn't in any way possible interested in what the CEE had to say. It would be nothing but hot air anyways.

...At least, that's what he thought. Then his eyes caught on Ian and Rowan with the group, and he felt a wave of worry course through him. Ian's eyes were that weird shade of red again. That was a hex, right? Muna hadn't even noticed that the boy had been hexed these past few months, too busy sucked into his own life of balancing two jobs and worrying about his two best friends to spare attention for anyone else. For once, Muna felt compelled to listen to what was about to be said. If not for Ian, who was a decent guy in Muna's books, he wanted to know why one of his underclassmen was standing up there.

Listening to Slater talk, Muna slipped his way easily through the crowd, identifying Shanta's brilliant wings and End's extremely-handsome countenance. He wedged his way in between two of them, offering both of them a little wave and a slightly smug smile. The middle was his place, and he was glad to have it back.

Council approved hex? Smelled like funny business. There was no way in hell that 'dangerous business' wasn't generously including a host of other things as well. Muna glanced nervously at the recently re-obtained Shashi, and signaled for his friends' attention, hands moving swiftly. 'you don't think they would uh try to get payback with that right' It seemed plausible to Muna in a very dangerous way.

Rowan was stepping forward. Wait, why was he stepping forwa--what the <********> was that beeping noise? He motioned for Shanta and End to pay attention to him again, an expression of annoyance and slight suspicion crossing his face. 'can either of you hear that or am I finally going ******** nu'

The world shook around Muna and his hands flew up to his ears, pain hitting them as the earth shook beneath his feet. He lost balance for a moment, redirecting his body so he would stumble into End.

Aw, hell, Muna thought as his ears rung, an odd feeling in the pit of his stomach. I totally forgot about the whole terrorist thing.

Shanta really didn't know what to expect, but it certainly wasn't this.

An assembly right after classes was annoying enough, and she could feel Shashi twitching under her. She wasn't really a fan of crowds, and Shashi was automatically floating a little higher than usual to compensate. Shanta didn't mind, though - little things like that calmed her down a little. She didn't have to strain to hear, either, and she didn't like what she was hearing.

Disciplinary hexing, huh, she thought. That wasn't fishy to all hell, no sir. Just some pretty words that covered up an ugly scheme to control the students that didn't like the rules. In some ways, Shanta thought it was worse than the truth serum. She glanced at Muna, and then Muna's hands. 'I don't think they can tbh but can't hurt to stay on guard' she signaled back.

It was Ian that really bothered her. Shanta didn't make the Ekat her business, but over the last few months she'd had more than a few study sessions with him, Icarus, and Din. She'd noticed his eyes were reddened, sure, but she'd been too wrapped up in her own issues to bother asking. Now she was kicking herself for it.

...Shanta's ears pricked. The hell was that noise? She squinted and looked around, trying to pinpoint the source, and then the Oak ******** exploded. Shanta grabbed at her ears as the sound threatened to blow out her eardrums.

"SHASHI!" Shanta yelled, grabbing End by the arm and Muna by the collar and hauling them both onboard, shooting upwards. There was some nasty debris flying through the air and she didn't want to find out what happened if they got hit.

Since it was the end of classes, and there was a crowd gathered, Bambi was sticking to Amanda's side like she was made of glue. The first seeds of regret of blowing up at Ziza had began to sprout in her head, and it was clear to anyone with eyes that Bambi was off from the confrontation. Whenever she got angry, Bambi was used to being composed and cold and quiet. How had Ziza thrown her into such a loop? Even if her behavior had grated Bambi's set of very particular nerves, why had it been enough to make her act in a way she had never done before?

"So many people," Bambi mumbled, and she clung to Amanda's back like a very easily frightened giant animal. She kept her hands on Amanda's shoulders, and on her friend's head sat Chang. From the way her brother was turning his head and looking at everything with what could have been excitement, it was clear he was feeling the exact opposite of his elder sibling. It was a good thing Merlin was lacking people who knew a thing about golems. His behavior was a dead giveaway, and Chang had long since stopped trying to play the role of an empty doll. Bambi had an inkling that the ruse had only been for her sake, anyways.

Bambi automatically turned off the sound of Slater's voice as he spoke. Whatever announcement he had to make wouldn't concern her anyways. While Bambi was a relatively good student who kept her nose out of the type of trouble that other students would relish jumping into, it was mostly apathy that drove her to this choice. After all, her record with Merlin didn't concern her. Bambi didn't really have any papers in general. Her mother had been very firm on never keeping any, save for those that were forged with the help of An's various connections.

Bambi didn't know much about hexing, so she simply nodded her head along. There didn't seem to be much wrong with Ian. Maybe the CEE was doing something right for once? However, she picked up on a murmur of discontent from the older students who were more familiar with Ian, and felt a little confused. "Amanda," Bambi whispered, bending her knees so she could reach Amanda's ears. Was there something beeping? She couldn't really tell. Bambi passed it off as a minor auditory hallucination. It was probably something stupid with her body, not her surroundings.
                                "What are he--"

Bambi gripped Amanda's shoulders hard as a horrible, horrible sound ripped through the area. Behind the CEE, she watched in horror as the Oak began to collapse on itself. That--that wasn't supposed to happen, right? What was going on? As the students fell into commotion, Bambi's hands fell from Amanda's shoulders to their waist. She quickly lifted them up.

"NEVERMINDTELLMELATER," She shouted, and then tried to dash away from the Oak as fast as possible.

xxWhat the ******** is that beeping.

Even with her ears forcefully constricted, Gwen could still hear the damn noise, and it was pissing her off. She just wanted to get this stupid assembly over with, but she could hardly hear Slater's words over the constant beeping noise. Where was it coming from? Was it all in her head? Because nobody else was ******** reacting to it and it was annoying.

Gwen wasn't really paying attention to what was happening on the stage - she didn't know the Ekat rep, and she didn't care about that nerdy-looking kid anyway. The only thing that DID pique her interest was Rowan up on the stage, too, and stepping close enough to Gil told her that he didn't know any more about this than the rest of the students. What the hell was the Council keeping even the reps in the dark about?

Gwen paid attention for about three seconds to figure out they were talking about hexing. Whoop de doo, she didn't care. Would they be released for dinner soon? She wanted to go and get away from whatever was bee--

The noise of the explosion was so loud Gwen cried out in pain and clutched at the sides of her head. The world started blurring together. What the hell was-? Her thoughts didn't get much farther, and Gwen collapsed.

xxx→→xThrough a lot of cute smiling and weaving his now-growing body through the throngs of people, Cabbage managed to pull all of his friends together. It was a difficult feat, of course, but one that Cabbage found fun in. There was no better place to be then with the people he liked the most!

...Of course, they were missing somebody. Rowan, standing next to his father. "That place doesn't suit him at all," Cabbage whispered to his friends, loud enough so everyone could hear. "He looks a lot better next to us, don't you think?"

Slater was talking about hexing, or something. Ian was up there, looking as impeccable as he had for the past few months. Cabbage wasn't surprised. He had read up a little on hexes. It was made increasingly obvious that his behavior had been the intended effect, which Cabbage found a little confusing. So it was...good, if the students turned into Ian? Cabbage was unsure how he felt about having multiple Ians around. Though in the very back of his head, Cabbage got the odd feeling that he would be pleased if that was so. It meant more people to talk about--

Very, very faintly, Cabbage wondered if he heard something. He decided to ignore it--from the looks of it, most of the other human students weren't noticing a thing. Rowan was stepping up, now, and Cabbage was a little confused on why he looked so scared. Was it because he was in front of a crowd? Rowan did seem like the type of person to get cold feet when that happened.

Then, every carefully formed thought in Cabbage's head halted to a dead stop as the tree, all at once, exploded. It was too much of a shock; way, way, way too much of a shock. The smile on Cabbage's face disappeared into a line, and the ground gave out beneath him. His eyes fluttered shut, and his consciousness flickered away into nothing.

Pressed against the ground, Rapunzel woke up with fear on her face and shock freezing up her body to the point of uselessness.

                          I ******** hate my life.

Rowan had been called to the CEE Office over the weekend. His father had simply looked at him and told him he would be hexed in front of a crowd as an example, and there was no getting out of it. There hadn't been any room for protest - either Rowan agreed, or he'd be coerced. That much had been clear.

And he'd seen what Slater did when he hexed people. He'd heard the reports of Schiller's initial hex, too - heard Slater discussing what could be done to increase efficiency, increase the pain, make it worse until he was literally trapped in his own skull. He knew what Slater was capable of - locking away memories, making nasty ones more vivid, and other things Rowan didn't want to think about. Just thinking about it made his anxiety worse, to the point that he almost didn't hear Slater call his name.

Dad pushed him out, and Rowan stepped forward. God, this was the worst. He was so nervous he was starting to hear things, like that high pitched beepi--

There was a loud BOOM and the sound of splintering wood, and the next second Rowan was thrown off his feet from the shock of the explosion. His glasses flew one way and he flew another - directly into the path of a blown-off branch. The branch collided with Rowan's skull with a sick thud and he hit the ground, unmoving.

xViolet's ears got lower and lower as the speech continued. Hexes? Disciplines? Public? Violet was a very good student and she wouldn't dream of getting in trouble, but the thought of public punishments absolutely terrified her. Being punished was bad enough, but doing it in front of all the students was enough to make her want to throw up.

As Mr. Slater's speech continued, though, Violet couldn't help but notice a faint noise. It was a soft beeping that started slow and gradually got faster. Violet didn't see anyone else reacting to it, though, so she didn't move. Her stomach growled; Violet very much hoped Mr. Slater would finish with his speech so they could go to dinner.

Rowan stepped forward, and the tree exploded. Violet froze in place as a shooting pain ran through her head, watching as Merlin's Oak, the most impressive thing on campus, was rent apart by... something. (Violet could swear she saw something shiny, but it was hard to tell.)

A piece of debris came flying right at the elf girl, and though Violet registered it she couldn't make her legs move. Instead, she took a deep breath and yelled.

                            "MX. DIN!!!"

xEleanor stood there as Slater delivered the new disciplinary policy, slightly miffed that she was the only CEE member missing a side person. Asphodel had Hau, Benjamin had that pathetic little child of his and even Slater had Ekaterina's representative standing beside him. So where was Elle's side person? She made a mental note to indeed, acquire a side person in the future.
It sucked standing up there in front of the entire school, Elle couldn't do anything without the risk of being spotted by a student so any attempt to whisper snide remarks to Asphodel would be out of the question (Also Ben would no doubt eventually silence her with a disapproving stare.) and so she stood, watching as the hexed Ian returned to the crowd, dreading how bothersome it would be when letters voicing their ethical concerns would start to come in. Eleanor would make sure to dump double the workload on Slater to get him pack. At least, it would be much more convenient and easier to just hex whatever student who refused to obey, the idea of forcibly subduing and suppressing their free will set Eleanor's heart all a flutter.

Then of course, said heart nearly threatened to fail once the explosion went off. Quickly regaining her posture, she crouched into a defensive stance, waiting for her vision to stop blurring and her ears the stop ringing, She soon however registered dear Asphodel, seizing her arm and pulling her behind Hau who had so loyally shielded his mistress. Damn, i wished someone would throw himself in front of me like that. The thought momentarily pervaded her mind until she finally caught hold of the situation.
A sharp clap resounded with a flash of blue as a force field enveloped the trio shielding them from the sharp splinters, fragments of wood and possibly the loose bough. Eleanor wasn't sure which was worse, the fact that Merlin's oak had just rent itself apart in an explosion, or that Hau thought he could protect her dearest friend with just his body (and perhaps maybe the power of love and loyalty.)

Meanwhile of course, Eleanor thought ******** all about the rest of the CEE members. Perhaps if they died, She and Asphodel would get a promotion, and that would be wonderful!

OOC: AH HA! I AM THE IMAGE MASTER MASTER OF IMAGES BOW DOWN

This was bad. There was no other way to describe what Slater was saying. He wasn't sure what accounted for 'dangerous behaviour' but he sure that label would be added to things other than legitimate behaviours that would cause real damage to the individual and their peers. And hexing. End's full experience with hexing had been through knowing Ian- and he didn't know him that well -but even so it seemed terrible in a way that he was surprised no taint was attached to it. Not to mention that it would be done in public, in front of students. Again, he knew almost nothing about hexes, but he could only guess that the process of being hexed was both traumatising to the victim and also traumatising to watch.

When Muna appeared beside him, in between himself and Shanta, he offered his boyfriend a smile, which faded quickly as Slater continued. He watched Muna's hands as they moved, then Shanta's. He was just about to raise his own to respond when Muna commented on a sound. Now that End thought about it there was an odd tic--

It was a loud noise then the buzz of a single note. The ground shook, branches and bark going everywhere, End nearly failed to keep himself upright under Muna's extra weight. He would have fallen, sending him and Muna topping to the ground if Shanta hadn't scooped them both up. Luckily his hands gripped Shashi automatically because if not he'd fall off while processing every single thing that happened at that one moment.

"I-..." he started, before realising the ringing was still happening and he couldn't hear anything else. He let go of Shashi to start signing but latched right back on. They were going too fast to talk that way. He hoped his face could portray the concern and confusion and worry for other people and worry for the school and worry for the other two. Luckily for End, his face did a very good job at conveying just that.

User Image Asha stood impatiently in front of the Oak. She wished she were anywhere but there - the time these people spent yammering on about whatever droll idea they'd come up with to make life at the school just a bit more hellish was taking up time she could have been spending at the dorms, staring in a mirror or brushing her hair or something. Most likely she'd be practicing on her pan flute. The spring equinox had only just passed, and she was taking a trip home for the occasion. The festivities would go on for another two or three days, she supposed. It wasn't nearly as grand as the winter solstice celebration, but the smallholders loved to celebrate spring. Asha hoped she would get a chance to play for her family before it ended.

Her eyes followed Ian for a moment. Asha had noticed his eyes had turned red, but she hadn't made fuss about it. The odd change had confused her for a while. So this was a hexing? It was the first time she'd ever seen one. In all the revelation didn't arouse any worry for herself, since she found that she and her friends flew fairly well under the CEE's radar. Besides the occasional detention (usually for hovering too close to Elvira or being late to class because she spent too long in front of the bathroom mirrors checking her uniform) she wasn't often called out for misbehaving.

She wasn't familiar with the red haired boy at the front, who looked like an incredibly small child at the moment. Squinting, she realized he was shaking like leaf. Lockwood? Asha liked the last name, if only for the fact that it sounded like a tree. But she wondered which one had actually agreed to help with the demonstration. Well, she prayed that it would be over quickly. The sound of the that man's voice was starting to grate on her nerves and that incessant beeping--

Asha's eyes opened wide in shock as the explosion resounded and she pressed her hands to either side of her head. She turned her back from the direction of the tree. For once she cursed her height and almost crouched as she felt the rubble and debris embed itself in her hair and glance off the side of her face. That burned. She pressed her lips together and moved through the crowd as quickly as she dared. The whole school had been gathered in assembly as far as she knew.

[Elvira? Finl- they do not speak Elvish. Elvira? Adriene?... Gwen Nivere?]
