She hesitates for a second, but seeing the effect of your healing on her grand daughter pushes her to answer your question with some honesty. "I'm sure it's not his fault, but her brother has kept wandering in the forest these last few days with some of his strange new friends... She tried to follow him once and she came back like this!", she said reluctantly. "Please don't tell this to the authorities, these two are all I have left in the world, I'm sure he didn't have anything to do with this!"

As far as your healing goes, it appears that with the limited information you had at your disposition you still managed to do a good job. She's not going to be able to speak to you any time soon; but at least you managed to give her system the edge it needed to fend off the poison. With your task done here, you may consider going back to the group. However, while you are packing up, the old woman, visibly moved by seeing her grand daughter looking less physically distressed, walks to a drawer and discretely pulls out something. She walks up to you and offers it to you. "Here, it's something that belonged to my son... He was a shinobi just like you. I'm sure if he was here today he would have given it to you without hesitation for saving his daughter."

Batsu graciously bowed to the woman and as he came up he smiled. "Thank you for being truthful." He then looked down at the girl and gave a final surge of medical chakra before pulling back and coming out with his jutsu still in effect but a containing quite a few blobs of the poison inside. He then left the girl's side and made his way into a bag where he grabbed an empty vial and inserted the poison into it. He definitely wanted to examine what type of poison it was. The medic topped off the vial and placed it in his bag.

As he looked back up at the girl, he saw that she was in somewhat of a better condition already. She didn't look as pale and her lips weren't as blue, which meant she was stable and it would take time to heal. Batsu then looked back up at the grandmother and saw that she was holding a kunai and was offering it to him. It looked like just any plain kunai but after accepting and picking it up he noticed it was much lighter than normal. He smiled as he stood there and looked at it. He didn't plan on using the kunai anytime soon but it was gonna be kept for sentimental value.

Batsu then thanked the woman for the kunai and he slid said kunai into his pocket. He then gave an explanation of her granddaughter's status. "Unfortunately, I could not get all of the poison out of her, but I am sure that enough has been extracted to where she will make a full recovery over time. Her body will be able to fend off what's left. Just keep a watchful eye on her. I wish you and your family the best of luck in the future. I will take my leave now."

Before Batsu walked out the door, he slightly turned and gave the woman a two-finger salute accompanied by a smile before turning around and walking out of the house. The boy then started to head towards the center of town in hopes of finding the rest of the mission squad there.

"I hardly think that theft is a capital crime." Shiro said to the merchant. She knew that he was up to something but she didn't know what. Sadly she was not the most discreet when it came to conversing and as such she was probably pretty obvious to a man who's livelihood depended on reading people. [innuendo: 5]

"Maybe if you could tell us more we might be more sympathetic to your wants." she said hoping to get something out of him. However she was most likely not going to influence him to spill some more information.

Mizuiro looked over at Shiro, who was talking and asking questions to the merchant, it was hard to understand what Shiro was saying, due to his sore eyes, but he got most of it. There was some connection between the Merchant and the Thief, but what was it? He looked back and forth between them a few times, until his eyes widened. They looked similar, but that can't be right, unless that he how the Thief knew what was in the bag, and that is why he took it. So now Mizuiro was more interested in the bag, then the Thief.
Mizuiro didn't think the Merchant would say anything, if he was willing to kill this guy. He wondered how they would get information out of him.

Yuki blinked. Had she missed a meeting? Why was it so silent all of a sudden? Ok, she knew the thief did something wrong, and the merchant was really angry at him, but there was really no need for all this fuss. Or rather, a lack of. Or maybe it was her that was being silly? Completely oblivious to the scaling suspicions and tension levels, Yuki looked around the place, gazing at a small trinket here and there, and ohhh, was that what she thought it was..? Concentration faltering, the girl's interest in the squabble already lost, she let her eyes wander, trusting the rest of them to keep the thief alive. Shiro was smart enough not to make their sensei mad, and it wasn't like the merchant really wanted to kill the thief.

...Probably.

Jinichi stayed on top of the attempted thief, finding himself in an odd predicament. He wanted nothing more then to have the thief brought to justice, but he couldn't hurt him, and if couldn't, neither could the merchant. As he watched Shiro interact with the merchant he caught her trying signal them, but evidently subtlety wasn't one of her strong suits, as the merchant likely saw it as well.

Mizuiro figured it all out, somehow the dumbass of the lot, clicked. He took out his Kusarigama, and walked up to the Merchant and pointed the tip of the kama's blade right at the merchant's throat.
"Tell us now, what is going now, and I won't tie you up." Mizuiro didn't like doing this, but if it meant getting this Merchant to talk, it had to be done. "Who is this thief, why does he look like you, and why was he so eager to take you bag even if it meant his life?" Mizuiro's voice somehow became like an adult's, deep and serious, it was shocking what a Hoshigaki's voice box could do at times, but when they really want to intimidate someone, they go all out. But the most scariest thing of all, was his round eyes, staring so coldly, he was looking into the very soul of the Merchant.



HAHAHAHAHAHA

IS THAT A SUCCESS?

Batsu continued his run towards the center of town to find the rest of the crew. The grandmother and child stayed one his mind even after departing from the house. He was sure that the younger would be okay but one thing made Batsu worry. Who was the brother? The grandmother spoke of two grandchildren and the one he had not seen was out with a few buddies causing mischief. He hoped that one day someone would detour him from the path he was on.

As Batsu traveled and thought, he came across a group of kids gathered around a central point. Getting closer, Batsu saw that one of them had gray skin from behind and that meant that it was a Hoshigaki, further leading him to know it was Mizuiro. Batsu trekked on and stopped a fair distance behind and looked on at the squad to see what they were ding and why they were huddled up.

The merchant might not be the most pleasant individual you've ever seen but he's certainly not stupid. He quickly understands from Inechi's comments that some of you might have found his demand suspicious and were trying to get some information out of him. "You bunch of useless goody two shoes excuse for bodyguards... can't believe I paid good money to have you around...", he mutters, sheathing away his dagger.

Your sensei arrives at the scene, waving his hand as he rides a giant turtle in the middle of a somewhat narrow alley, the ground practically shaking with each step. From afar, he addresses you in a relatively loud tone: "Hey guys! See you've already started getting to know the local population!", he says sarcastically. Arriving close to you he gets down from the turtle's shell and inspects the thief a bit, to see how his team had done. "He's a bit roughed up but I'm impressed you did such a good job catching such a nimble looking guy", he says scrutinizing the thief and poking him in the head two or three times.

The thief now not only confronted to the four people who had made him eat the pavement not too long ago and now a 6 feet tall shark man with a sword bigger than he is, starts sweating profusely and addresses your sensei with a shaking voice, " I... I'm very sorry s... sir! I learned my lesson! If you let me go I promise you this won't happen again!", he begs with a visibly insincere look.

Hiru appears to think for a while, leaving you unsure as to whether or not he bought what was one of the more pathetic attempts at persuasion you had seen in your relatively short lives. After a few moments, he rubs his chin and simply says: "Your boots. Give us your boots and you're free to go." Pointing at the boy's feet he added "That should teach you a suitable lesson and keep you from doing your tricks for a while."

Visibly surprised, the thief can only answer "M... My boots?", after a short pause as he tried to understand what was going on, he started taking them off while shaking "Eeeh... sure... thank you Same-sama..." After a few seconds he hands the boots to Hiru and runs away from the group as fast as he can, leaving behind only a cloud of dust.

Taking the shoes and watching the thief run away for abit, he turns back towards your group and seems to ponder for a second, looking at all of you successively with his tiny shark eyes as though he was trying to figure something out. After a few uncomfortable seconds he hands the boots over to Sakurayuki with a smile. "Here you go! They're pretty much in your colour palette and the straps should allow you to adjust them enough to fit you right now!"

A pair of black mid shin height boots with a hole in fron leaving the toes visible. Unusually silent, very practical for stealing old lady's purses.
Effect: +2 to Sneak while wearing them.


Walking back to Kuurukame, Hiru turns around for a second to speak to your group: "I saw an inn just a few houses down this street. That's where we'll stay for the night. I'll be heading there right now. Your rooms will be paid by our generous client so you don't have to worry about that!" As you start following him, he stops you in your tracks to add something more to his explanations. "Oh, I forgot to mention. You guys aren't joining us right now. I still haven't given you your punishment for your earlier blunder with the squid!". Pointing to the alley where you just were, he continues: "You're all going to learn to block attacks or parry efficiently before you're allowed to enter the five star accomodation I'll be enjoying for the evening. Don't worry, it shouldn't take you more than a few hours."

"Have fun!", he tells you sarcastically, dragging the merchant with him by the shoulder as though they were best buddies.

Evening Exercise: Learning to Block

That punishment was bound to come sooner or later, and you can be thankful it wasn't more severe. Learn to block with a weapon of your choice.

You'd probably want this done sooner than later, you've seen the customers getting foot massages while bathing in the hot springs... it looked a bit better than training in the dirt...

As batsu was heading tpwards the hot springs with Hiru, the shark man turned to him discretely and simply said: "Tail that thief. Don't let him see you and report back to me at the end of the night to let me know where he went."

After giving his instructions, Hiru simply walked into the hotel with the merchant and headed to the hot springs, asking out loud "Now, where are those hot springs? I'll take the massages with a cup of your best tea!"

Batsu was indeed tailing behind Hiru and the merchant and was ready to take a relaxing swim and cozy up to a good book afterwards. However, that came to a halt when Hiru turned around and gave orders for him to follow after the thief overnight. That meant two things in Batsu's mind. One, Batsu was gonna be up virtually all night. Two, the was a case of not getting any relaxation on this trip... which sucked. Even so, Batsu had been given directions and he had no choice but to follow them. So as Hiru and the client went towards the springs, Batsu turned and went the opposite way, towards the thief

Being barefoot, the thief obviously can't run as fast as he usually does, even though now is probably the time when his motivation was the highest to get away from these maniacs as quickly as possible. Often turning back to look over his shoulder, he clearly is afraid of something. Maybe that one of his attackers would be following him?

As you wonder about it, he keeps his course, zigging and zagging through alleys and between houses.

He's clearly afraid and constantly looking over his shoulder. You need to tail him without being noticed or you'll risk making him suspicious, which might alter his destination.

Stealth DC: 30

Success: Stay off the radar and in good position to see where he's going.
Failure: Target spots you and starts sprinting and panicking, will add various penalties to future rolls.

Reward: 15 XP


Step 2

Staying discrete is one thing, but you also need to keep up with him. For some reason he looks like a shinigami's at his back. Move those legs!

Athletics DC: 15 - 3 (Bootless) = 12

Success: Keep pace with him.
Failure: You lose sight of him for a moment... With what consequences that can have.

Reward: 7 XP


Optional

What the heck's his problem? See if you can get a hunch from the situation to guess what might be going on.

Sense Motive DC: 20

Success: Put some pieces together (Bonuses on future rolls)
Failure: Remain clueless but in pursuit.

Reward: 10 XP

As you are all training as punishment for your previous failure against the squid, you see Hiru-sensei soaking up in the hot batch through the inn's window. He's laying back with a towel over his eyes and a vapid smile on his face.

Looks like you're in for a rough night, but nothing seems out of the ordinary... doesn't it?

Batsu caught sight of his target as he was running away from the scene. Per Hiru's orders, Batsu gave chase, but knew he had to do so without being caught. So after he gave chase on land for a while, the male then hopped on top of one of the houses and started hopping from one dwelling to the other as gracefully as possible so as not to give his position away. The medic preferred taking to the heights anyways at, he felt, it gave him a better view of the ground below, which made it easier for tracking purposes such as this.

Batsu made sure to keep up with the younger male whil still in pursuit, all the while he kept thinking of why the boy was ddoing this. He had a loving grandmother and a sister back at home so he had family support. But something was amiss and as he thought about it, he had a clue. Batsu reached in his bag...

Mizuiro was not happy, but also felt some guilt for the squid thing still. He really didn't need it rubbed in his face. He never knew a squid could be that strong! He watched as his new Sensei, his elder within his clan also, get to relax out, while they have to do some training?
Well, he best get to it, get it over and done with. Mizuiro had to focus and get the others to do the same. Then he saw something in the corner of his eye and looked around. There was a scent on the air that wasn't there before, a presence that just appeared...



Awareness DC 15 vs 17 + 2 = 19. SUCCESS!
