Matiko-san
Uhm...well...I don't see a URL.

Oh ye of little faith. "Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed" (John 20:29).

Matiko-san
And, well, the infatuation's rubbed off, so...I'm kinda like "What's so cool about this guy?" I mean, first post he says to me, that I see, was kinda rude.

Well, in my defense, you did make a typo. It's like drawing a bull's eye on your shirt and begging me to pelt you.

Vague
it was a joke... I think. Even if not, it was offhand, not a criticism of you.

Oh! I thought he was talking about the signature.

Yeah, it was a joke. See my reply to Vague for more information.

No, I thought the signature was cute. It was what you said on the other thread that was hurtful, no matter what it's intentions.

Well, I was hoping that your emotions would not have been hurt, considering that (1) we are in the gay guild, and (2) I'm gay. It's called satire. That is, the use of a ridiculous statement in the guise of seriousness to make a pointed commentary on social norms and stigmas. I sometimes forget that some are not astute enough to realize that, when I make a comment such as the one I made to you, I am, in fact, supporting you. Not berating you.

You may want to check my response to you in that thread. I have a question for you, and a comment to add to your suggestion and Vague's response.

Well, I guess you need to be reminded that this is text, and thus your inflections and tone are missing. Hence, it is nearly impossible for a normal human being to understand the difference between your satire, and a general beratement. Though, there was no mistaking the insult in *that* last post that I'm responding to now...Not astute enough indeed. How rude.

EDIT: Can't find the thread you were referring to.

Yeah, that's not true. Most people can't tell by my inflections offline either. I can adopt a very serious face. The fact remains, however, that my inflections, facial features, body language, body piercings, and hair color are all irrelevant to the fact that it is ridiculous for a gay person on the Gay Guild to call another person gay and mean it offensively. Even offline, people would be required to discern that a statement is wholly ridiculous, and realize that I really mean the opposite.

And seriously, I don't really understand your offense. Aren't you gay? Are you straight? Are you something else entirely? What is so offensive about being called something you are? And if you're not that thing, what's so offensive about being called something you're not? It's obviously untrue, so there's no point in becoming offended just because someone is ignorant.

Matiko-san

Okay, now you're just looking for ways to be insulted. (see below for more info on "astute")

You can't find the thread, so I don't really care. I was going to offer you two of the items on your wishlist. I think I'll offer them to someone a little less hostile than you.

-----------------------------

Offensive Words that May be Misconstrued by Matiko-san

The following list is in place so that Matiko-san may avoid being offended by words that either do not refer to him, are satirical in nature, refer only to my opinions and not to reality, or are too cute and may be construed as criticisms of homosexuality, Pokémon, and/or Chia pets.

1) not true: Not the case. Incorrect. This statement refers purely to the viability of the statement to which it refers. It in no way refers to the person who made the statement. While different opinions can be valid to an extent, an opinion about a person and their use of diction can be invalidated by that person if evidence is presented that denies the claim made.

2) serious face: A serious countenance. This does not mean that JoVo always has a serious face, nor does it mean that Matiko never does. It simply means that JoVo adopts a serious face while performing a satirical statement or dissertation, so that the only means of realizing his meaning is by listening to him.

3) irrelevant: Not affective. Not important. Meaningless. This term refers to the fact that, due to JoVo's serious face, no observation of body language will be able to discern whether or not he is joking. Such observation is futile, and one must, instead, focus on interpreting his words. This is something many people here are very good at. It is why there are not many who are insulted by JoVo's "rudeness."

4) ridiculous: Foolish. Silly. This term refers to the original comment that JoVo made, which he continues to believe was too foolish to be understood as truth. Then again, JoVo is aware of the extent to which people misunderstood Nietzsche's humor, and he is proud to be among such misunderstood men.

5) ignorant: Lack of knowledge. This term may be either broad, describing a person who lacks knowledge in all areas, or specific, describing a person who lacks knowledge in a certain field. In this case, this term is used specifically to describe people who lack knowledge of Matiko. JoVo is ignorant in this respect. JoVo assumed, in his ignorance, that Matiko was gay, since he was in the Gay Guild. While straight people are allowed into the Gay Guild, JoVo has not yet seen any. If Matiko is not gay, he could tell JoVo, and JoVo would apologize for calling Matiko something that he was not.

6) hostile: Antagonistic. Feeling or showing ill-will toward another. Hostile refers to JoVo's current perception of Matiko as someone who is easily insulted and likely to start confrontations where none were after feeling so insulted. As a result, JoVo has formulated this definitions section, so as to ease Matiko's antagonism of JoVo, who says a lot of things that may or may not be construed as offensive, depending on the ability of the person to catch subtilty.

And an oldie but a goody:

7) astute: Having or showing shrewdness and discernment. Keen. Eagle-eyed. Discriminating. Cunning. Sagacious. It is JoVo's contention that Matiko, since he did not catch JoVo's original commentary's ridiculousness, is not astute. It is not an insult anymore than Matiko calling JoVo "rude" is an insult. JoVo is not insulted by Matiko calling him rude. Matiko holds an opinion of JoVo that is negative, and JoVo is not offended because JoVo knows that the opinion held is based on perceived wrongs that JoVo feels would not have been perceived in such a way had Matiko been astute. Astute is not a term JoVo would attribute to Matiko.

Okay, what in the HELL are you talking about? Yes I am gay, but that's not what offended me. So, I don't know *where* you got the idea from that I was offended by something like that. If it were that, then yeah, I'd agree with you that, that would be ridiculous. Unfortunately for you though, that's not what I was referring to. And if you'd bother to point me to the thread you mentioned, I might be able to point out what it was that you said that I thought was offensive. But, as it is, you're either too lazy to do it, or you've forgotten the thread yourself, and can't bring yourself to admit.

Jovo

Okay, now you're just looking for ways to be insulted. (see below for more info on "astute")

I know the definition of astute, thank you very much. I don't need an immature teen lecturing me on its uses.

Jovo

Oh, boo hoo. You won't offer me items on my wishlist. Whatever shall I do... And *me* hostile?! Look at you! All I did was let you know I took offense to something you said. You, buddy, have gone off on the deep end for no reason. Maybe if you were a little more mature, and a little less full of yourself, you'd see that, simply talking to me in a civilized manner, would have cleared up whatever misunderstanding there is between us, and this little spat wouldn't be happening. However, as it is, you're sadly *not* mature, and you *are* quite full of yourself, and therefore you cannot bring yourself to clear up a small misunderstanding.

To the rest of the Guild: I'm sorry, but I just don't know what you all see in this guy. And I kinda understand the position of the one person that wanted JoVo gone. Though I don't feel this misunderstanding warrants going to that extreme, don't expect me to kiss up to someone who very obviously needs a slap of reality.

Assumptions are sucky.

You do see the link, don't you? It's not obvious, so I just wanted to make sure. It's this astute thing.

Matiko-san
You won't offer me items on my wishlist. Whatever shall I do...

I'm still offering. You just have to get to that thread and answer my question.

Matiko-san
And *me* hostile?! Look at you!

So we're both hostile. That's not something I'm really debating.

Matiko-san
You, buddy, have gone off on the deep end for no reason.

I'm calm as a june bug. I wish you didn't get so upset, though. It makes me sad. sad

Did you read my post? I tried very hard to clear it up. I even defined the words for you as I used them.

Quite frankly, I don't see the point you're making. Maybe I'm not mature. I never claimed I was. Hell, you'll find I don't make many claims about myself. I let others do that for me.

So, you tell me what I am. I'll believe you.

Matiko-san
don't expect me to kiss up to someone who very obviously needs a slap of reality.

LOL. If you knew me at all, you, too, would realize the ridiculousness of that statement.

As an aside, the code is:

[quote="JoVo"]

You want to use the quotation marks, which tell the quote tag what to place in the "X-person wrote:" part of the quote box. Then, of course, you want the closing tag:

[/quote]

That way, your quotes appear as boxes rather than paragraphs. Feel free to PM me if you need anymore help.

Now see, that wasn't so hard was it? That was actually pretty helpful of you linking the thread in question. I appreciate that whole-heartedly.

After reading the thread, what offended me was the fact that my idea was so quickly brushed aside. It wasn't the fact you called it gay at all. I think that's why Vague whispered in your ear lol.

And secondly, I concur with your suggestion. If everyone else wants me to make a Shop/Quest thread here, I will do so. It will...benefit the guild greatly.

To JoVo: Now that that is cleared up, I do extend any apologies I owe you for coming off a bit harshly. I should have clarified myself immediately when I posted that remark on the Project Thread. I do hope you forgive this newbie's eagerness.

Finally, some silence that wasn't awkward. Maybe that maintenance was more useful than it seemed. Other than eating a few threads, civility was born again. 3nodding
