"Without your mask,
You can't find yourself.
What you confuse,
for glory's fire.
Is fire from the tongues of liars."

Claire thought for a moment, considering her word choice, "So if you go to the medical field...You'd either have to brush up on your social skills, or become some kind of...recluse medic." She almost smirked at the thought of David hiding away from the rest of society, making medicines. ...Or whatever he wanted to do.

Claire then sighed, "I hate the concept of fate." She clarified, "I don't hate the thought of it...just how the concept works." At the mention of how pure-blood families worked, Claire sighed, "Which is why I'm so opposed to them." Her mind then for some reason, went to Josh. He was...pure-blooded right? He was also kind of a p***k, but he seemed....decent....for a pure-blood at least.

Oh, what's this? Is the ickle brat developing warm feelings?

Claire frowned some at the voice and shook her head, trying to block it out. She needed to stay focused on the conversation she was having, "Well...at least those rotten vampires did something good." She said bitterly, "And...yeah." Claire shrugged, "Feeling a bit better." It was another lie of course, but Claire wasn't exactly going to talk about how she was hearing voices. That would be just stupid.

As stupid as your thoughts and constant bullshit?

Claire just frowned and began to eat the rest of her fish n' chips, "...Tell your mother." She thought for a moment, "Thank you. For...this and...everything." Claire said, her voice trailing off at the end as her hardened stare came back.

My feelings? I'm un-nerved you know?
Precious thought of mine, "Make the voice stop."
I'm a Slytherin.
Did you know that I'm a second year?
My strings are being pulled. "..." Out of character.

Hmm...?

As David listened he ate his dish calmly and slowly, he wasn't particularly hungry but it was good, and it was better to eat something than nothing. He sort of had a feeling in the end he would leave his meal half eaten. Unfortunately timing gave him little option besides a heavier meal. He raised a brow at Claire's consideration of words, it was politer than she could have worded it about his social habits and his goals. "Yeah, but brushing up on social skills isn't something that comes naturally to me... and it isn't something I can learn in a book. I'm more book smart and I may be able to handle certain types of people-like the types of my extended family- but dealing with people isn't something you learn like that. I've accepted my weaknesses more or less... being a recluse is easier on me."

He let out a sigh and listened as she spoke on fate, "And about fate, like I said I really don't believe in fate one way or another. That's something you have more in common with my mum. Maybe her technical cousin in a way too... I've never actually met the woman, but from what it looks like she's back. Which was why I was here. I was curious. Mum would have probably mentioned it if she knew and I only know because I noticed Dad's account books open and it seemed weird he would be making loans to someone buying a shop in Diagon Alley."

He frowned as he wondered if that was why Dad didn't divorce Mum when he found out she lied to him about being a witch. He obviously had some affection for her but David generally felt his hatred of the wizarding world at least initially would be worse. But, if his father was the type to lie to a partner to for his own means, maybe he was more forgiving his partner to lie to him, too? The thought was enough to give him a headache that had just gotten better.

David turned back to Claire focusing on the conversation and her statement about the vampires and her reply about feeling better. "Yeah... nothing like maiming and unintentional body mutilation to mend a relationship and bring peace between two parties," His tone was a bit sarcastic as he was a bit distracted wondering what exactly Dad was hiding. All David had saw in his father's account books on his desk was a very large loan to a Mrs.A.P.Edwins for F&B and a name Edwin Ryans and a meeting time at some obscure cafe in Muggle England back in the winter right after the Holidays, that was close to a branch of one of the branches of the banks his father used to store his money.

David looked at Claire, frowning himself, "You know you have my mother's number now... you could always contact her yourself if you ever wanted. And she does work at the Ministry so you could always drop a letter off to her that way. My father isn't particularly fond of owls near our home and we tend to keep our address private. I suppose it would be easy enough to find father's office... but I wouldn't suggest that... my father isn't as forgiving of a type as my mother. And I'm sure you understand he doesn't care for wizards or witches by principle alone."

"Anyways, I'm not your messenger boy Claire," David said matching her stare, but his words sounded tired-this was one of the longest conversations he had with someone besides someone directly in his family in a while. Actually he was surprised it had gone as well as it had so far, especially considering it was with Claire. Didn't he sort of blame her for his mother's injury? "If you want to thank her thank her directly. It would mean more to her and don't you think you are being unfair to me asking me to carry your messages? I'm not the one who thinks I owe you any obligation-besides making sure your headache clears up and the Excedrin works right."

Claire listened for a bit as she finished off her meal, she needed something in her stomach...and this was as good as anything. Claire then thought for a moment as for what she would reply to David with, "Guess a recluse would fit you more." She then sipped her tea, "...The thing about fate is, I have trouble one way or the other. It isn't something I can fully get behind...but it's useless to talk about it. As yous aid you don't believe in it so..."

Claire glanced at the current time, she would have to get back to taking pictures, since she would have to finish the scrapbook she was making for Josh. Which brought her to the thought of where to go next...she could go around to the various shops and take pictures of them...but would the shop owners like that? ...Then again what did she care?

Claire looked up with a smirk at the sarcastic reply she got from David, before the smirk fell fast at the rest of his reply, so much for attempting to be nice, "...Well..." She paused for a moment, she would never say these things directly...she just couldn't, it wasn't her, "I'll think about it."

Because being nice would just be so below you, hm?

Claire gritted her teeth as she shook her head some, she needed some space...and air, "The medicine worked fine." She lied once more as she looked up, "Anyways...I...need to get going." She tried to think of an excuse, as the voice in her head taunted her, "I need to get some materials." Claire then thought for a moment, "If...I don't see you around. I'll see you at school then."

Why should a brat like you see anyone? It's not like anyone would care one way or the other about you.

My feelings? I'm unnerved you know?

Don't we usually live in different spheres at school?

"Maybe I just don't want to believe in fate and deny its existence?" David mused. "Regardless, if you actually are thankful to my mother I would think it is better to thank her directly. I'll tell her you said thanks, though..."

He stood laying the money on the table, his food still half uneaten, and said, "I'm glad the medicine worked then. Sorry, I held you up so long. Since I was the one who imposed on you, you actually don't owe me an explanation on why you would have to leave. And like I said, I intended to investigate a matter here and thanks to you now I get to win points with my mother and a story of human interaction which will save me a few lectures of being completely antisocial."

He smiled and said with a smirk, "And you unlike my family actually understand and don't care that the recluse image fits me better. It's refreshing, really. Have a good day. And we still never end up discussing your brilliant plans for changing society. I'm intrigued to hear them, still. Well, I tend to be easy enough to find at school if you care to find me-after all I tend to spend all my time in the library."

At the mention of David telling Claire to say thanks herself, if she was truly thankful, Claire shifted a bit, "....Sure." She then finished off her tea and nodded, "Well then. At least you got points." Claire then smirked, "Though being a recluse doctor would still suck." She teased.

Claire nodded anyways, "No...problem. It was...interesting." She paused again, considering her words, "The conversation that is." Claire then curtsied some as she stood up, "Thanks for the food." At the mention of where to find David, Claire paused, "I'll keep that in mind. Also I'll discuss my plans later...Though you'll probably hear about them." She then smirked and walked outside the leaky cauldron, she...needed some air.

Claire hated that part of herself, the part that was pathetic and weak.

Always pathetic...always weak. What a stupid girl.

It was a sturdy pair of boots that came traipsing down the streets, the cobbled pavement underfoot unfamiliar and unknown to the worn soles. Many things had been trampled under them-- though often not intentionally, it just happened that their wearer was a clumsy ********-- and many places as well, though it was admittedly their first time in London. Splashing into a puddle, the blond donning the pair of Doc Martens hurried on, ducking into the ramshackle establishment and puffing out his cheeks in exasperation.

"London!" Shaking off the damp from his hair, Atle Borson ran a tanned hand through the gold locks, brandy eyes looking around the unfamiliar place. Brow furrowed, the ironic little smile on the equally tanned face widened as he headed towards the bar, still a little lost in terms of where exactly he was supposed to head to. He probably shouldn't have decided on a surprise visit, especially since he didn't exactly know where he was supposed to visit anyway. Well, he knew-- he was going to visit Olan, since Noel was apparently dead; pity he hadn't gotten to spend as much time as he wished he had with him-- he just didn't know how to get there.

Sighing, Atle plopped into a seat at the counter, waving over a bartender and ordering a glass of Firewhiskey.
"I should have brought a map," the wizard groaned, fighting the urge to drop his face onto the tabletop. Where was he supposed to go? He could probably stay in the Leaky for a while-- he had the funds, just had to head to Gringott's-- but that wasn't why he was here. Taking a sip of the burning drink, Atle dropped his hand onto his fist instead. Now, where to begin?

He really probably should have thought these things through.

It really just came as a thought, a whim, really. He'd already visited Mother and Father-- he'd even stayed there for a few months, despite the ball-freezing cold and the frostbitten death he'd nearly succumbed too. It was nice, though, seeing his parents after a while. He'd heard about his brothers from them during his time there, about Noel, and then Olan, and, oh, apparently he had a nephew on Noel's side too. Who knew? Either way, he thought he'd figured it was time to reconnect with his family. Being born an average of two decades apart tended to make things a little distant. That made him grin, lips curling behind the glass rim. So, 'nothing much he could do' was the only thing on his to-do list. Maybe he'd just wait a little while until a kind soul came in who he could ask to point him in at least, the right direction.

Magni had come in to settle down for a meal at the Cauldron, having worked late and not exactly wanting to go home to grab something there. He'd skipped lunch, and now his stomach was informing him that might not have been the best move, as now he was starving. He was seated at the counter, waiting for his aunt to come by with his dinner, when he saw a familiar face walk into the bar. He kept his head down, watching a bit as his uncle looked around the bar, before coming up to the counter. He took a sip of his own butterbeer, not wanting anything stronger at the moment, and listened to Atle complain about maps. Why maps? Magni looked up, studying his uncle a bit. He wasn't lost, was he? Heck, why was he in London, of all places? Last he'd heard, the man had been on an expedition of some sort.

Deciding to take pity on his lost relation, Magni cleared his throat, just as his aunt plopped down a plate of bangers and mash before him. Thanking her first, he turned in his seat and gave the other a smile.
"You know, you could have owled someone about being in London. That way far or mor could have been here or something to pick you up." He watched the older man, an easy smile on his face. Younger than the man by a few years, Magni hadn't been intimidated by the fact they were uncle and nephew. If anything, he'd always treated him like he was a friend. And friends didn't let their uncles get lost in London without getting lost themselves.

Atle was very close to simply jumping ship and wandering around all of Britain until he ended up on the Borson doorstep or something-- he really was, he was toying with the idea and when he toyed with his ideas, it usually meant he was either high or close enough to desperation and hopelessness, which was both in this situation-- when something happened.

                                                            And not just something-something.

                                                            Something.

Pausing as he raised his drink, Atle Borson took in what had just occurred. No way. Setting his glass down with a clear clink on the glass-topped countertop, the blonde straightened up very slowly, pulling his shoulders back and sucking in a deep breath as he turned hesitantly to the seat beside him.

                                                            It was full.

Full of six feet and five inches of mountainous blond.

Who happened to be his nephew.

A few things happened in succession after this. Atle was hesitant, of course, only not in the way people in this situation-- or as close to it as they could get, he was in a pretty unique dilemma, after all. Unable to decide between tackling his relative or hugging him, Atle thought, ******** it, and went with a combination of both, almost leaping out of the seat in enthusiasm and relieved cheer as he delivered his energetic greeting to his brother's son.

"Magni!" he exclaimed, eyes bright and a grin on his face as he pulled back after following up the tacklehug with his own usual greeting-- an airkiss to each cheek, France had left a very strong impression on his person. Retreating back to his seat, a hand went back to pick up the glass of drink, long fingers curling around the cool surface as he lifted it to his mouth again. "Fancy seeing you here!" he told the other, smile as bright as ever. Looking at his nephew, however, Atle felt the great urge to crawl in a corner and die once more. He felt that stubble when he went to greet Magni, dammit, it was not fair. Where did his puberty go? Forcing himself out of the progressively depressing slump he was going into, Atle mentally shook his head, bringing his attention back to the current conversation.

                                                            Goddamned genetics.

I would have, but it was supposed to be a surprise," the elder of the blond duo pouted, stretching his arms out on the counter top as he propped his head on his chin, absently swirling the glass, watching the amber liquid spin. "If I'd owled, it would have ruined it-- only I guess I've been found out," he added with a laugh. Ah, well! T'would be fun anyway, wouldn't it? Ordering a sandwich for himself since Magni was eating, he figured he would have something too. Pursing his lips in thought, the shorter blond fiddled with the leather gear on his wrists, turning back to the taller. "So, how have you been? I haven't seen you since Durmstrang," he spoke, curious at how things had been for the younger.

Magni was only slightly taken by surprise by his uncle's enthusiastic greeting, and managed not to get knocked over. However, his face split into a grin, and he resisted the urge to ruffle the older's hair and settled for giving the man a brief hug of his own before they separated. He lifted his own bottle to take a sip as Atle explained that it was supposed to be a surprise, and Magni almost chuckled. Well, then Atle would have a surprise waiting for him when he saw the family now. Not only was he biologically a big brother, but there were more kids in the house. Most of them nearly grown, but they were his mother's children nonetheless. He didn't think that Frida would say otherwise, despite their origins. How he got lucky enough to have a mother with as big a heart as she did was a mystery, but one that Magni enjoyed nonetheless.

When asked about how he was doing, Magni crossed his arms, thinking for a moment before responding.
"Well, obviously I graduated, and now live in England full-time. I also have a girlfriend, and well, she's an interesting character, full of fire and self-confidence. That might be why I love her so much." He then considered the other bit of news and decided to hold up a wagging finger. "The other surprise you will have to wait on, uncle. I'll keep your arrival a secret, in exchange for letting me keep mine until you get back to the manor. Mor and Far will be happy to see you, I bet, and I think Mor will definitely try and feed you, since you're practically skin and bones." He poked a finger at his uncle's ribs, grinning a bit jokingly as he did so. Atle seemed to be the one family member that wasn't tall, and he figured it had to bother him that Magni got the genetics that made him loom over everyone. Probably made Atle feel like he was younger than his nephew, he mused.

Sitting back and listening to his nephew talk, Atle reflected that, yeah, it was really nice. He'd missed being around family-- he's always known so, that was why he came over to a place he'd never set foot in to go find them-- but he hadn't really realized exactly how much he missed them until he was already here, lost and a little worried until his nephew had found him. There was something different about things when family was involved and he'd missed that, even if he had never really met them anyway. It was sort of difficult, being how he was in the family, but he guessed it was fine. It was what life had given to him. That meant he was strong enough to overcome such bumps in the road of his existence.

"'s'a bit different from where we grew up, definitely," he added, tapping fingertips in an odd beat against the glass. But still, he thought, that was a very good decision on their part. It had a good economy, it was pretty close to the climate where they used to live, just a little more normalized, which was definitely a good thing, and it was a beautiful country. At the mention of a girlfriend, he grinned, going to poke at the larger man's side. "Oh? Who is she? How did you meet her?" he asked, amber eyes curious and mischievous. Ah, his nephew had grown up! "She sounds very good for you," he laughed, genuinely meaning his words. There was something there that lit up as he talked about his lovely lady, and that was already beautiful all on its own. It was lovely to see his family doing so well.

Never losing his grin, Atle raised a brow at the wagging finger as he listened to the other's words, smile growing at the mention of a 'surprise' in exchange for his keeping of his own arrival quiet. "You have yourself a deal!" Atle laughed, though his curiosity was definitely piqued. He didn't know much about them at all and any piece of information about them was most welcomed and greatly wanted. His parents were old, his brother was dead, they were the only family he had left and Atle himself was alone. Shaking himself out of the thoughts he tuned back in to hear the comment about his skin and bones. Letting a slightly louder laugh out, he shrugged, pinching a bicep and striking a pose. "Skin and bones?" he asked in mock outrage before settling out into a grin. "I'll have you know I've been doing my own thing, got a trainer and all" he laughed jokingly, swirling his drink. "'s'fine, it's the bloody genetics-- had to happen sometime, what with all you mountain men this family's been making!" Atle retorted, tone good-natured as he did so.

Then again, he had started dating Eretria after he graduated, so he doubted his friends back at school would know. He tapped the bottle a bit, thinking about the snake. "Well, she has a sharp tongue, and isn't afraid to speak her mind. She also called me her stalker for a bit, considering that I did kind of follow her when she went into a seedier bit of London and then we met up again during an incident several years back. I don't think she or her friend appreciated that much. Otherwise, Eretria is a pretty interesting girl."

He took a sip of his drink then, thinking on the deal part. Atle would be surprised to meet the extended family, that was for sure. And it did extend, quite a bit. "Then it is settled. As soon as we finish eating, we can go, unless you have some unfinished business you need to take care of first. I'm sure far wouldn't mind seeing you either." He then cocked his eyebrow, nearmy sniggering at his uncle defending his own size. "If the Borsons are mountain men, I would almost say that you are related to my mor's side of the family. They always did seem a bit small overall. Perhaps you got switched at birth by accident?"

Payson entered the room and turned to slowly close the door behind her. Looking around it seemed she was to arrive first. She was a bit surprised to receive the owl from the man she'd meet at the bar. Not that she wasn't pleased, Payson had made a hasty reply to send back. She checked the time to make sure it was correct and she hadn't gotten so antsy as to show up hours in advanced. Not hours no but a good 15 minutes yet. She chuckled to herself doing a scan of the room. As usual it was lightly populated which was sure to grow over the course of the night.

Payson strolled over to the bar and took a seat on the stool waiting for the bartender to get to her. Scanning the shelves, she looked over the diffrent drink options. Deciding alcohol was a must to help calm her nerves. Wine seemed the best choice, enough to calm her but not make her a lush."Elderflower Wine, Please." She asked politely once she'd caught the bartender's eye.

Then the panic set in. Would he even show up? What if he changed his mind or what if it was a mistake? "No, no." She assured herself. He'd sent the owl and made the arrangement. She accepted and now here she was at the bar. She glanced around again to make sure she didn't miss him. Still not there, she let out a sigh. She was early, Payson told herself. He could still be a few minutes so no need to panic.

Garret walked into the room, his eyes already scanning the place as he recounted in his head what Timothy had told him a week ago. The fact that he needed to get his mind off of Megan, that he had to do something other than let himself get wrapped up in her again. He didn't blame Timothy in the least bit. Their last encounter had cemented in his head the very reason why they had fallen apart to begin with. Timothy now had custody of his youngest child, and he didn't blame the man. Considering the mess that could erupt, he knew that having Clarice would put the girl in danger should Megan come again. Not that he needed another reason to keep the woman away. He had at least persuaded Timothy to put up wards around his house to alert Garret the moment Megan came onto the property. He didn't care what meeting he would be leaving, he wouldn't let his child be harmed by her again.

Rubbing a hand over his face, he spied Payson through the gap between his fingers and made his way over, deciding that yes, he would enjoy himself, but he was doing it to get Megan out of his head. Though, the last time that happened, it had been successful. Hopefully it was as successful as the last time. He smiled a bit, deciding to flag down the bartender as he did so and took the seat next to hers. "I'm glad to see you made it. I hope it wasn't too much of an inconvenience for you to come out. How have you been, Payson?" He quickly ordered a scotch and returned his gaze to the blonde. Why couldn't he have run into her right after Sarah's death was beyond him. She was certainly a lot more stable than Megan could ever hope to be. Plus, she seemed... well, there was an unknown quantity in her that he didn't miss the first time he met her, and it drew him like a moth to the flame.

Christina had left fairly early that day from her and her sister's home when she found out Sophie planned to spend her off day working on potions. From their potions room where Sophie had started working, the house within a few hours was reeking of so many ingredients it was maddening. Honestly, Chrissy wondered how her sister could stand it: Sophie had more of a sensitive nose than Chrissy did. Then again, Sophie almost constantly had at least one potion she was working on-or did when she was off of work from Hogsmeade. Chrissy was fairly sure she wouldn't have minded as much if Sophie was actually using her talents in potions selling them or if it was just Wolfsbane Sophie was making regularly. Of course, considering Sophie had said she was restocking many of Chrissy's medicinal potions, Chrissy probably shouldn't be complaining: it meant less work for her.

And, that was how Christina had ended up fairly early in London and in Diagon Alley and now the Leaky Cauldron where she was drinking pomegranate juice working on checking over lesson plans and deciding where she needed to make minor tweaks to make them better. She may have been declared professor of the year (which still made her embarrassed and put a smile on her face to think she managed that on her first year of teaching) but it didn't mean there wasn't always room for improvement. She had more or less stumbled through her first year, regardless of how well she had planned out lessons before the start of last school year, but now she had a better idea where questions might lay for students.

Twirling a regular ballpoint pen in her fingers she stared at her lesson plan for her least favorite class out of all the subjects she taught-stings and bite healing primarily, and considered how she could approach the topic without as much annoyance. She was fairly sure there was no way she couldn't, like Sapphire Snow had pointed out she did at times let her temper get the better of her, and unlike most people she had to focus on keeping not only her tone and presentation in check but had to worry about her physical appearance not reflecting her mood: the downside of being a metamorphagus.

Frey walked over to a table in the corner, her heels clicking sharply on the polished wood of the floors in her pub. So far, the regulars were being pretty normal, and she expected the season to be busier than the rest of the year. After all, how many other places could boast the entrance to the wizarding world's equivalent to a muggle shopping mall? She eyed the man in the corner, nursing his drink. Roald had been there all day, mostly avoiding the rest of their family. Her brother was as much a mystery to her as he ever was, but part of that was due to the fact that their father tended to well... She wouldn't call her father the most friendly of sorts. Why their mother married him was beyond her, besides the fact that they were betrothed forever.

Giving her brother a slightly sympathetic look as she got him another drink, she went about her business. While she could stop and chat, she preferred to do it when she was at a lull, and so far, that hadn't hit yet. Roald would understand, after all. She grabbed a plate of food destined for another table and made her way over, placing it down before collecting glasses. No need to really let this time go to waste, after all.
