Anarya was the first one out the door today, Elena only a moment behind her. It had become a sort of contest between the sisters to see who could get through first, and the loser had been locked out on more than one occasion. Arya usually won, since she was more enthusiastic about going to school than Elena ever was, but on occasion the Tale's competitive streak got the better of her. Both girls stopped for a moment in the upstairs bedroom they'd arrived in and double checked that yes, they had everything they needed. Jerava had made it a rule that this had to be done; she'd gotten tired of running back to the House to get forgotten things.
Elena took a moment longer than Arya to get squared away as a sudden wave of dizziness washed over her. The Shattered child was already halfway down the stairs by the time Elena got to the top. "Hey, Arya, is Mum here?" Elena called down, before starting her descent. "I really don't feel good all of a sudden," she continued, her voice trailing off as she fainted. Unfortunately, gravity has a way with things, and after her collapse, Elena tumbled down the stairs, landing at the bottom with a sickening crack as her head landed sharply on the bottom step.
"Yeah, she's here," Arya replied a moment after, sticking her head back into the small hallway that the staircase was located in to see what was taking her sister so long. "She wants to know what's wrong," she said before noticing Elena on the floor. Staring for a moment, Arya let out a scream. "MOM! Mom get in here, Elena fell down the stairs and I think her head's bleeding!" she managed to get out as her words stumbled all over themselves. Jer dropped whatever she was doing with a loud crash, rushing over to stand in the doorway, her hands on Arya's shoulders.
"Get the phone, and call an ambulance," Jer said in a strange voice, various emotions warring within her. First and foremost was deep concern over Elena, and as Arya dashed into the other room to make the call, Jer knelt next to her oldest daughter, gently brushing some hair off her forehead as she waited for the ambulance to arrive.

Snowflakes flew down from the sky, each one perfectly frozen within it's own soft core. The crystalline shapes were perfect, like each one had been handmade by the weaver above, cutting shapes of star dust and magic into ice. If any Gaian had taken time to step back, these crystals may have noticed, yet under the light of a steadily drawing skyline, the snowflakes danced alone.
They twirled around to the soft beat, spiralled to each delicate piano string plucked, revelling in their last moments of freedom before falling to join the pile beneath. A few lucky ones may have stuck to the glass, peered inside the brightly coloured shop, leaning in to watch the boys skilful fingers play out each note as they melted back whence they came.
Behind the glass, a small lad sat huddled over a grand piano. His booted shoes barely touched the floor, yet the signature in his bony developed hands pronounced miracles. His fingers skidded over the keys, weaving delicate yet bouncy harmony on one hand, while his other only touched the legato notes at the rear of the scale.
While the piece may not have rated high on a difficulty scale, Fai played each note so eloquently that could have pleased any music instructors astute ears. He barely missed a note, yet he was hardly inanimate in front of the instrument. Melting hazelnut eyes had long fallen to a close, and even his wings held their feathers out to the notes. As if a single E sharp or an F flat may have soared the off-white feathers in that vast sky, to join with the clouds and fuse with the silence above.
In his element, Fai touched his fingers to the last note, sending a clear but slightly too high pitched note smashing the tone. It appeared even young masters made mistakes. Shaken fingers paused on the key, wings going into a flurry of a panic; flapping and flicking against his head as the cat was set upon the pigeons.
"Almost there, you've come on leaps and bounds recently," The darkness held many a secret, and as the golden gloss of the Barton skyline ducked beneath mass of grey buildings, a creamy white furry author pushed herself off the wall. Tail bouncing with each step, she entailed behind the young tale, ushering his small hand into her own. Gently, she placed them back to the notes, drawing out the harmony beneath the wrath of carefully selected scales once again.
Each note bounced cleanly off the walls, pulling his little finger off to touch the black marble two keys down. Bare notes sang off the clear glass shop window, each correctly falling into their naked base, following the staccato manuscript above to the line. The Tale took a moment to compose himself, letting the edges of his fingernails just bare to touch the edge of the note. A smile zoomed over his darkened face, clouded by the little light streaming in through the window behind.
"Hot chocolate or tea?" Stretching furry white fingers out, the author matched her Tale's beam, her tail betraying everything as it thumped from one side to the other. Like a puppie's might at the mere thought of its owner returning home.
"Hot chocolate please," One of little words once music had assailed his ears, Fai drew himself back from the foot pedals. Stretching his toes within those large boots, Fai's wings flickered up into a soft waver, each wing corresponding to dip and dive behind the masses of blue hair, remige feathers tipping to brush against the worn leather around his neck.
Maybe Taley shouldn't have left at this point, but whatever happened, the author dipped out of the room without saying a word. The light purple tip of her tail disappeared around the corner of the thick oak door, leaving both boy and piano alone.
Reaching up, lethargic fingers only just made his manuscript in time. Fai barely had chance to think as darkness flooded in front of those hazel orbs, clouding all doubt over. His fingers curled tightly around the paper as he fell, reeling the Tale into a sleep like state of a coma. His head hit the keys first, a sharp mix of various noises baracading the shop as his wings fluttered and faltered for the last few seconds. Before they, too, fell limp.
Had he have been awake he might have heard the scratching of paws, felt the shaking on his shoulders, he may have even smelt the feeling of worry as it fished deep down into Taley's stomach. Not even the worried frantic cries would break his pact now, Fai wasn't playing anymore.

So much had happened in the past few days. Serkan had attacked his Da and left the woman (man?) laid up in bed and missing an eye. Armel currently was sitting on his bed with an open journal in front of him and the pages were still blank. No matter how he had tried the horned boy couldn't seem to think of a way to begin an entry or explain what all was going through his head right now.
He felt so tired oh so tired.
Armel glanced over to the side at the sleeping naga-baby, Kaveri, in her little portable sleeping bed and sighed. He was trying to be somewhat helpful while Tyr fretted over Pales. With all this worry and stress the sudden tiredness didn't seem to speak of anything out of the ordinary. It was just the days upon days of events with the addition to holiday craziness finally catching up to him and hitting him hard over the head with a mallet.
Tyr scuttling past the open door made Armel shake his head and sit up a little taller in his bed while calling out, "T..Tyr, can ye take Kaveri with you...?"
The woman stopped before passing the door and backtracked, "Uh, sure..?" Tyr blinked her eyes, "Are you alright? You didn't have to watch her you know. I am sure Pales would love to see her right now." She smiled lightly at the ram-horned boy as she stepped in to the room glancing over at the sleeping naga-baby. As long as Tyr didn't see anything below the waist of that child it was okay. Especially if she refused to even think about it.
"I..I'm fine I just want a na..." and suddenly Armel flopped over face first into the book and he was out.
Tyr squeaked and fretted for a moment and then called for Raeanne to gather the naga-baby. The woman dropped the things she was carrying to the floor for a moment to shift Armel around a little to tuck him properly into bed, "He's just overexerted, that's all. Armel will wake up again when he has had enough rest..." The woman muttered nervously causing the Raeanne to glance curiously over at her while she cradled the dozing baby.
The unnerved woman looked over at the ragdoll girl and smiled uneasily, "It's nothing. Armel just taking a nap, he's been hardly sleeping since Serkan disappeared..." in truth the disappearance of the walking corpse made Tyr nervous too. She felt as if Serkan was lurking somewhere near by in the shadows...
Tyr gathered the items she had dropped and then went with Raeanne to Pales' room.
Now the question was to tell Pales and worry her more or to just wait to avoid stressing her mate out.

The peace of the nearly empty household was nice. With siblings all out for one reason or another and her Author having recently left with her Aunt Hikari, Aido, the temporary babysitter, was left with just Diae and the fireplace to disturb the silence of the near empty household.
The blocks that Hikari had left had been combined with the blocks Aido had managed to track down in the closet to create an impressive collection of different shapes, most of which currently littered the floor. Some had been made into different structures, but a great deal of them were simply lying in wait until they were needed.
Aido pressed her lips into a line and gently tapped one of the top blocks, trying to ease it (and the entire structure which was currently leaning sideways) into a slightly less precocious place. An abrupt yawn caught her off guard and she tapped too hard, sending the entire structure to the ground again.
Grimacing she shook her head furiously, trying to beat away the curious light feeling that had descended so abruptly. Quickly Aido checked to make sure that Diae was unharmed from the fall of the building and yawned again.
She shook her head and frowned. Of all the times to be tired....
Wiping at her eyes Aido looked back over to her temporary charge, "Diae, I'm going to the kitchen to make some tea," she yawned once again and noted that the tea was definitely going to be caffeinated with a fair amount of sugar to back it up.
"Would you like anything?" she asked as she shifted to one knee then pushed, making to stand and head towards the kitchen, when the light headed feeling washed over her again, stronger this time. The world spun once and she fell back into a crouch.
She shut her eyes, trying to force the world to stand still, which it did; only the Shadow Mancer didn't open her eyes as the light headed feeling was replaced by a cool, enveloping darkness.
Without ceremony Aido fell sideways onto the carpet covered floor.

The one good thing about having a fearless cousin living in your house was that she was almost certain to find new and exciting places to explore way before you ever would think to look for them on your own.
Brownie was Sylvester's fearless cousin, and currently he was sitting in one of the new and exciting places she had found while being suicidal and impulsive. It was a little known flat alcove on the roof, right above the window to Brownie's room. Two scarves, a hat, three sweatshirts, one pair of pants, two pairs of socks, a pair of gloves, some slippers, and a windbreaker covered Sylvester's body in one way or another, but still his teeth chattered. The plan had been to pass the time waiting for the Aekea Center New Year's Eve fireworks by playing Uno, but number one, Sylvester didn't even think he could hold the cards, let alone strategize in any way, and number two, it was nearly time for the fireworks to begin and Brownie still hadn't made an appearance.
About five minutes later, a pale head appeared from somewhere below him and he scooted out of the way to make room as Brownie shimmied up the side of the house and fell in next to him.
"Maybe this wasn't your best idea..."
"Chickening out?"
"How... what? I'm up here, aren't I? It's just... could it get any colder? Really."
Brownie reached inside her unfortunately elaborate and furry coat and pulled out a small, plastic bottle. The label was torn off, but Sylvester could still tell what it was. She tipped the container to one side and smiled, and the combination of her pointy teeth and spiky hair made for a stunning advertisement.
"NyQuil? Are you kidding me?"
"It's good stuff! Warming. You know." She gestured at her chest as if she was demonstrating some sort of Lamaze breathing technique.
"I am not watching fireworks hopped up on NyQuil!"
"Pansy."
"Adopted."
"Look who's talking!"
"Statistic."
"Prison b***h."
"Skid mark."
"I've never ******** Smerdle, okay?"
"You've never ******** anyone, plushie." She was just about to shove him when the first firework exploded in the sky.
"Ooo," they both breathed.
Sylvester smiled to himself. "Happy New Year's Eve, B--" Without warning, the Tale's eyes rolled back in his head and he fell over to one side, crushing Brownie to the shingles beside her with his dead weight.
"Hey! What the hell? GET OFF OF ME!" Brownie's blade-wings extended quickly and involuntarily, slicing off a chunk of Sylvester's hair along the way. He was not going to be pleased when he woke up.

Living with Pales and sharing Armel's room was very different for Khalindra. Of course, at the moment, things were quite hectic to begin with but Aiden had brought her back to the house after a visit with Alex and she was quite ready to just curl up with her friend and maybe ask him to read to her. She was very, very sleepy and really didn't want to do much else anyway.
"Daddy...I'm goin' up to the room, kay?" He wouldn't mind, would he? After all, he had been oddly quiet. When Aiden got quiet it meant he was thinking and that was never a good thing when it came to her father.
Aiden nodded and shooed her away, sitting down to think quietly.
The Tale made her way into her friend's room and paused as she saw him laying, tucked into bed. A very good idea. However, Khali only made it a few more steps before she collapsed onto the floor and sank into sleep. At least Armel got a bed.

They came at him--five, ten, twenty men, armed to the teeth and seeking his blood. Ten, twenty, forty red-rimmed eyes glared at him, narrowing all the more as he offered them all an indolent smile before he began his counterattack. He hacked and slashed in broad, showy strokes, carving a bloody swath between his attackers and the treasure at the end of this particular rainbow; he'd heard tales of a treasure hidden in a cave, as certain treasure often were, and immediately decided to have it for his own.
And so it seemed it would be, as he looked down at the twenty, forty, eighty limbs strewn about the dim cavern and realized he had run out of enemies to fight. With an almost disappointed sigh, he sheathed his sword and headed deeper into the cave.
As it turned out, he didn't have too much farther to go. The ever-narrowing passage eventually opened up into a large chamber. Within stood a single column, worn with time and moldy with age; atop the column sat a large jewel that seemed to glow from within, the white light it emitted too pure for such a dank, dingy prison. Well, he would fix that--he would take this gem from this clearly unfit place. That decision in mind, he strode boldly forward.
He didn't notice the soft click of his confident steps setting off a booby trap concealed within the stone floor. He DID notice the chamber begin to rumble and shake as a result of it. Drawing his sword just in case, he was totally unprepared for the room's floor falling in. He started to fall, sword waving futilely, surprised and too stubborn to vocalize it even with no one around to hear.
The gem, he noticed, was falling with him, keeping pace alongside him. The light it radiated illuminated the pit he was falling into. It seemed bottomless. Figures, he thought, oddly unafraid of the fact that this might be the end. Well, at least I've got some light.
And then the light went out.
Tybalt's ruffled feathers and tensed muscles slowly relaxed as he fell into a deeper sleep. Gone were the dreams of battle and glory, replaced by a slumber that Tybalt didn't care to fight.

Vidya yawned, poking at the hot water in the hottub she was currently in, swathed in only a towel in the steaming liquid, her hair tied in three seperate braids. The water, responding to her touch, at first shied away from her finger...however, when she retracted her hand, the water followed, stringing from her digit to the rest of the water, stretching and thinning like a moist piece of gum stretched between teeth and fingers. With a small hum, the blue skinned girl opened up her entire hand, laying it flat over the calm surface of the water. Slowly, she lifted her hand and tiredly watched the water rise with it.
She repeated this process many times, though on occassion she would cup the water in her hands, then throw it into the air. From there, she could make the droplets stop moving, then bring them back into the tub one by one. It was a fun trick, but no doubt tiring. Finally she created a big ball of water from the hot tub water, about the size of a basketball, that hovered an inch above her hands. With another yawn, she threw the basketball sized water ball into the air above the hottub...
But before she could stop the water, she gave a little gasp. The waterball came crashing down unceremoniously as the tale suddenly went unconscious, sliding down a little more into the tub, her lips just above the swaying line of water.

"Howd'you get it so big, Aiai?" Diae asked with excitement dripping into his voice. His mother was gone leaving only the other Tale to watch over him. He placed another blue tinted block ontop of a simple wooden one, following a pattern he had yet to notice, determind to beat Aido's tower with his own.
The boy yawned turned into giggling as Aido's tower fell to the floor.
"Aiai has to start over again now!" He said punctuating his statement with another yawn.
Diae gave a triumphant smile as he placed the final block on the pillar he was making. But something just wasn't quite right. The color was correct according to his odd pattern but everything just wouldn't stop moving. Without warning, the boy's head lurched forward and back up in attempts to fight the fatigue that was growing behind his eyes.
Blond spikes fluttered across his brow in response to Aido's question.
"Water pease" Diae murmured before trying to get himself up to see Aido falter in her movements. He should have been worried, but the fear was numbed by the ongrowing blackness surrounding him. "Aiai'soka...?" The sentence barely left his lips before he too fell to the floor, goggles askew and ragdoll grasped loosely in his fingers.

New Years Eve, Nalira thought, was just another overrated holiday. The only difference was no present pressure or mandatory religious services. Everyone just invited who they wanted over and drunk a little too much while their parents hurried around making sure everyone was comfortable and happy and suitably impressed.
Nalira laughed bitterly and stuck her leg through the open window. Pushing back against her palms to support her weight, Nalira pulled herself onto the window sill, her legs hanging precariously off the edge. She began to have vague feelings of apprehension, remembering that it had been days since her last visit.
Thump.
Nalira looked up timidly, feeling her chest tighten and suddenly resembling a deer caught in headlights. "Chai," She whispered, watching as the small, unconscious Tale slid in and out of focus. Suddenly, her eyes rolled into the back of her head and her knees gave way, and the last thing she saw was the floor speeding towards her.

Linneas got to unsteady feet before heading towards Khia to offer him a hand. "Yes, it's me, Linny. I can only hope you're Khia and that you saw what I just did." he grimaced, hating that he was reunited with his first friend under such circumstances. "Come on inside, I'll get you something to drink. And maybe we could talk?" he suggested, gold eyes cast downwards in worry and concern.
Meanwhile, Huni was headed back to the Stationery Store, arms laden with groceries as she walked sandwiched between Paestri and Arya.
"I'm me...I mean, I think I am." The shapeshifter's voice was pitched quite low and had an almost raspy edge to it - something he'd gained as he'd grown the last time. It really did suck that they were meeting under such strange and troubling events, but at least they were in this together... whatever this was. "Yeah, a drink would be nice...that was...really...screwed up." Khia licked at his dark muzzle and rubbed at the red gems at his wrists as though they itched a bit; he would follow Linny. They could talk, they hd to talk...that was just too out there, too...dangerous...part of him knew it, deep in his magic-infused and elastic bones.
Syrie was leaving from home, his newest child safely with Veloren. He had felt something jolt through the wards he held up at the Stationary Store and was worried, deeply concerned - the unrest he'd been feeling drawing him to the shop to see what was going on.
Linneas was hardly a magical entity save for his nature as a Tale, but even he too was uneasy. As he poured Khia a glass of water, his gaze kept returning to the Study.
"Do you think the other Tales really were falling asleep?" Linneas asked, placing the glass before his old friend. Instincts caused him to walk to the utility closet to retrieve the mop and bucket he had grown so accustomed to using they were practically part of him.
"And if so, why are we still awake?" He added, mopping up the mess he had made on the tiles.
Huni was oblivious to whatever happened in the store, so long as the building was standing in one piece, she wasn't going to go looking for trouble. Paestri and Arya, on the other hand were a little more sensitive to the magical flux. They both stared at each other then at Huni, each little girl grabbing hold of the red-head's sleeve and tugging her forward.
"Whoa, whoa, what's gotten into you two?" She squeaked.
Khia was quirky magic reformed into his current shape by even quirkier magic (the Tome). This whole situation made him feel uneasy but he accepted the water with a steady hand and did his best to not make a mess of things - his muzzle made it hard to drink without a straw, but he wasn't thinking about that at all.
"I don't know...maybe - anything is possible. What I do know is that I'm worried. If what we were seeing was true...some of them could be in a lot of trouble...and we might be the only ones awake to help." They couldn't know it yet, but at least one Tale had been injured by the strange spell that had been cast. "Man, I wish Dad were here..."
Khia would get his wish, but it would take a little time for the kitsune to get to to the Stationary Store from his home at the Manor. Plenty of time for them to fret and worry and discuss the strangness of being sucked into the Study, the Tome maybe, and seeing people there with the twins.
Khia's fur rippled and shuddered as though it were it's own entity and afraid; "What I want to know is...who were those people? And..why were those wierd twins there?" Never had children been born from the Tome without having been asked a question...and yet those two had just appeared. The answers to his unspoken questions could not be good.
"Mom's probably on her way back, but I don't think she knows enough to be of help," the young man chuckled wryly. "I've dreamt of the girl before," Linneas added softly, "Or rather I dreamt I was the girl. I remember her saying something about being trapped. And the last time I checked the Tome's roster, I noticed one question had two answers, it's the twin's no doubt. But no one in the house recalls ever seeing the Twins emerge." Linneas' grip tightened on the mop's handle.
"If we truly are the only ones awake, how do you suppose we go about reviving everyone?" the red-head rubbed the back of his neck wearily. Golden eyes glancing at his dark-furred friend. "Augh! I have so many things I want to ask you but for the life of me, I can't remember," Linneas groaned in frustration.
Huni had to keep up with the two children's speed. No easy feat with the groceries and things she had bought that day. An uneasy feeling washed over her as they drew nearer the Shop.
"Alright, alright, we're almost home." She stated.

Khia's ears flicked back and forth as he leaned against one of the kitchen counters with his drink; he was just ...holding it. It kept his hands busy and distracted him from the way his fur was shifting and shuddering. "Dad...he might be on his way - I don't know for certain. He's got a six-sense about this place...so it's possible." The shapeshifter cleared his throat and shook his head a little.
"You know Linny...I don't know that either of our parents will be much help here..." At the other boy's mention of that odd dream, he frowned (as much as a lupine creature can frown). "Really? I dreamed I was an old man...that old man...Don't remember anything else though."
How did they revive the other Tales? Could they? They had to - if the others were in magical comas...then they couldn't leave them like that. "I don't know...maybe the twins could tell us? We've got to figure something out - but everything is just more questions." He growled - it was exceptionally frustrating to only have questions and no answers...it reminded him of when he couldn't talk. "Help or not, I wish Dad and Aunt Huni were here right now..."
Syrie had hopped on the back of one of the Lupix from the sanctuary to speed up his trip to the shop - he didn't know why but he felt an urgency that compelled him to push and push hard. By the time the kitsune and the beast made it to the street the Stationary Store resided, Heka was covered in lather and the fox himself was pale and worn from healing her as they sped along. "Thank you, Sister. Please rest."
He hugged her great neck and slid from her back, making his way to the store. Huni was at the other end, a good bit away, but well within calling distance. "Huni? Do you know what's going on?" The emotions pouring from the store were...worrisome to the diminutive man. Very disturving, to say the least.

Linneas continued to mop the floor almost automatically, he didn't need to think about what he was doing. Or rather he continued to clean because it helped him think. And he racked his brain for answers, coming up with only more questions he would not ask as they would do them no good.
"The twins hold the key. I don't know how, but they do." Lynn spoke, managing to sneak past Linneas' defences while the Tale was preoccupied. "The question I wish to ask is are the Twins still in Gaia or are they elsewhere?"
And Linneas shook his head forcibly upon his realization that Lynn had momentarily taken control. "S-sorry, sometimes I-I'm not myself," He winced apologetically.
Breathless from the sudden sprint, Huni was leaning against the wall gasping and trying to normalize her breathing. Paestri and Arya saw the arriving Lupix, their curiosity could not be denied despite the ominous feelings they got from the shop.
"W-what?" Huni panted, "Is something wrong?" She asked the kitsune. "Whatever it is, maybe Linneas would know, come on inside."

Khia's eyes narrowed a little as he watched his rarely-seen friend mopping nervously...the mop was as much a part of the red-headed young man as his own tail was to him. The oddly measured words and syllables that came from his friend gave the bulky shapeshifter pause - that was not Linny...but he had to agree with the words spoken.
It had started with the Twins. They held the key, and quite possibly some answers.
"Agreed. They do..." A long pink tongue flicked out to wet his muzzle before he spoke again; "I dont know...maybe Dad will be able to sense them." He shook his great shaggy head and snorted a bit. "You and me both, Linneas."
He wasn't going to worry about Linny's apparent dual personality just yet - that was something they could discuss when there were less pressing issues at hand. Large ears flicked and then shifted to p***k up as he caught the sounds outside. "Aunt Huni and Dad are here...and...others?" Khia didn't know the other scents as well, he couldn't identify them, not with his entire being screaming to run and move and do something - the shapeshifter was just too agitated.
"C'mon, maybe they can help."
Syrie shook his head a little. "I wish I knew...I just got this...odd feeling, and came rushing out here." Grey eyes shifted back and forth; Syrie was worried and he would more than happily step inside the store - Khia was there, as was Linneas. He sensed them. "After you."
Trouble or not, Huni had small kids there and she was a lady - she would go inside first, and he would follow, leaving the door unlocked behind him, should anyone need to come in...

Linneas turned towards the door, "Others? Must be Arya and Paestri." He explained, returning the mop almost reverently back in the utility closet. The young man couldn't help but wonder what Lynn had said, and what Khia had agreed with.
I simply voiced my thoughts that the Twins might still be with the old man and the girl. Was the response.
The red-head glanced back to Khia, "Alright, be right there." There was an uneasy feeling growing in the pit of his stomach, it was not the same as he felt moments ago. No, it was not nausea, it was more ominous.
I hope it's all in my head.
Huni ushered the two girls in, instructing them to go upstairs. When Arya began to protest saying she wanted to be with her itay Linneas, Huni promised the little girl she'll take her anywhere she wanted tomorrow. It was a good enough bribe for the Passenger and together with the Legend, they raced up the stairs.
"Linny, Khia, is there something going on that we should know about?" The woman cocked her head, jade eyes curiously staring at both Tales.
