The black put his head down and gave the short hike everything he had. Sadly, the Sands were uneven and the ripples in the sand caught him up and he went tumbling head over tail but in the course of the tumble, he somehow managed to pull out and landed the maneuver with grace. Flicking his tail, he chirped and fluttered his wings, a bit of a giggle in his voice as he started off towards the candidates again.

Freniar watched as the junior weyrwoman walked up with the shovel. She seemed so young to be doing this. He took in the fact that she was stepping up as was needed. A glance at the extra commotion, he saw Niyx being sent off and shook his head. It was sad, because she could of been a rider this time. Mine, she got to close to mother. It is not a good thing. The gentle reminder was nice.

He turned, spotted Dizzian a little ways away, and walked up to her. "Congratulations." Even with all going on, he wanted to be around others.

Aww! How cute he was! Nawa admired the black as he marched along with surprising energy, and smiled at the giggle that followed his tumble. What a pleasant little dragon - but who would be his rider? With her hands folded behind her back, she crossed her fingers. There was the black, then four more eggs...her chances were slowly getting slimmer.

Aaaaah~ The adorableness never ceased with these hatchings, did it. Roeline had to admit she was very-much impressed with how gracefully the small black managed to pull out of his maneuver and she offered him a smile in return. His small stunt definitely deserved a 10 out of 10. If he was that graceful on the ground, she could only imagine what he would be like in the air once he was older. She looked forward to seeing that for sure.

Slowing as his endurance failed him, the black called out then tilted his head as he saw smiles and heard giggles from among the girls. Calling out again, he toddled forward and flopped onto his stomach just at the front line of Candidates, gaze fixed on His.

Nawamine! Your Rioth is so tired, and sore! ... And hungry! Feed Yours?

He wagged his tail hopefully.

Feeling relief slowly begin to flood through her, Narisa felt the corner of her lips curl up. Yes. She could do this. Okay, time for the next egg! She approached the Peace and Quiet, following her previous actions again. An experimental tap followed by a wind up and a good thunk.

Again, the egg wriggled and a wing pushed through, followed by a head and arm to reveal a young Crimson. A Crimson! Small, yes, but Crimsons were almost equivalent to Golds! And in the absence of a Queen Egg, the young female was likely to garner much attention!

Stepping out, and moving strangely because a piece of shell was all but glued to the bottom of her foot, she wobbled about disoriented from the smack against her egg.

Aw, another Impression. heart This was definitely more how the hatching was supposed to go; happy endings were always the best. Well, beginnings in this case, but still.

Oh wow, a crimson? So pretty~ Roeline watched closely, curious to see who this young red dragon would choose as Hers. Though she did feel a bit bad about the piece of shell stuck to her foot. That couldn't feel very good to walk on.

S'kor watched quietly. He was surprised when more eggs didn't hatch on their own. How many were duds? He winced as the queen crushed an egg. When she lifted her tail it appeared the egg was empty. He wondered what would have happened should the egg been habitated. Hopefully they'd never find out.

Scarath greeted Cepheith, Plexith, and Pipith with a croon.

Optheli was delighted for the Hatching. She eagerly watched each egg hatch, and the dragonet pair off. It was sad the green couldn't find Hers. She sent love to Dynith. Oh look! Narisa hatched a black! I'm glad she's doing that. Isn't that black adorable?

Dynith nodded her head sagely and watched. That gold was scary, not like Cepheith.

Cetalese felt herself tense as a Candidate stepped out from the line to beseech the Queen for the lives of her eggs. Every muscle in her body tense and her eyes went uncharacteristically wide. She felt an answering ripple of feeling from Halith, but Halith let out a little frightened bellow at the girl's behavior. Perhaps, in hindsight, her actions would seem noble, but all Cetalese could feel was fear that the girl was about to get her head taken off by Brakiath. One did not approach a Queen during a Hatching at the best of times; all Candidates were taught that. A Gold on the edge and missing her rider? That was a situation requiring even more distance. It was a miracle Brakiath had remembered she had to let the Candidates on the Sands with her eggs. At least Cetalese would never need to worry over that the way Narisa, now taking charge of the situation, had to.

Be careful, Narisa, Cetalese thought, watching intently as the Candidate safely made it away from the mantling Queen and Narisa moved the Hatching along. She made a good leader; in the absence of Abigail, Cetalese knew she would do well. Ceta wasn't one for harping over wishes or regrets, but it would have been nice to get to know Narisa a bit better before her duties as a Weyrwoman had taken over so much of her time. But there were other riders in the Weyr, and it was unlikely for a Greenrider to find herself spending much time in the company of a Goldrider anyway.

Cetalese counted the eggs as the first atypical was "hatched." Five? Five potential atypicals in a Clutch of 14? And a dud? Cetalese shook her head slightly, eyes glued to the Black as he toddled about and fell face-first in the sand. She couldn't help the smile as she remembered Halith doing exactly that when she Hatched, just at much higher speeds.

My balance is just fine now, you know, the Green pointed out, but she sounded amused. He needs some work, though. Atypicals always seem to need extra help at the beginning. It's part of their color.

Nothing wrong with atypicals, Cetalese pointed out, and received an offended agreement from Halith. She hadn't meant the comment rudely, but somehow she always managed to make it sound that way. However, they do run the risk of not making it to adulthood. I hope the Candidates who are paired to them understand how important it is to keep them safe and healthy until they reach senior weyrling age.

The dark haired young woman watched a Crimson claw her way into the world and limp towards her options. Again, Cetalese couldn't help admiring the bold pattern on the vibrantly colored female, what of it she could recognize from here. Such an unusual Clutch of dragonets...

F'ren had watched the hatching with sleepy interest, none of the others sitting near him seemed to be up for much talking so instead he'd been conversing with Toulonth who was staying in her Weyr. She'd recently Risen herself but was slightly irritable still so F'ren was stuck relaying the hatching to her as she liked to know. He shook his head at the girl that approached Brakiath and, like most everyone else, held his breath as the Queen got angry at the boldness, there was no way he could have heard what the girl so he didn't know WHY she'd approached. He let out the breath when Brakiath backed away and Narisa began doing what Abigail should have been able to. Not for the first time he swore under his breath and hoped that his Weyrwoman woke soon. If not...... then another Goldrider would have to take her place.

Cheryth huffed in approval when the little crimson made her appearance - and her crooning took on bit more encouragement as she watched her red sister toddle about the sands.'So small..but strong, she will find hers' Cheryth stated decisively - although Cheryth tended to think this of any crimson hatched and it had not always turned out that way in the past. She was just well..a little bit biased really.

'I'm sure that she will' Ca;mil agreed with her dragon, and she truly hoped that Cheryth's prediction would come true, they had already lost two dragons - one to a failure before birth and another to between. They did not need anymore, if they could keep the candidates from volunteering to be lunch some more that would be great too.

wow..that was close, Eliza breathed a sigh of relief as Brakiath kept herself under some semblance of control. Perhaps the junior queen had helped - her rider was certainly taking over what was normally Abigail's job and Eliza was quite grateful - imagine how sad it would have been if no one had been around to do so - all those possible dragons lost. It would have just been more tragedy in the wake of all that had all ready happened.

The Weyr needed a good hatching - if for no other reason then to boost morale a bit and while sure there were no golds or bronzes or browns in this clutch even babies always had a way of boosting peoples spirits anyways.

Dizzian's attention was drawn from the little black's Impression and the birth of the crimson by Freniar's approach. She smiled up at the other candidate, now weyrling as he addressed her. "Thanks! Congratulations to you as well! This is Courath. What's his name?" She gestured to the handsome blue at Freniar's side.

Courath's eyes whirled as she nodded to Solath. ~ Hello brother. ~

...............................

Aili danced backwards as Brakiath lunged at his friend. Thankfully the other Rider was there and her life was spared. He watched as she left the sands, feeling all the more alone. A glance around as Narisa cracked the black's shell revealed he was one of the few boys left on the sands. He felt eerily exposed out there and now that Niyx was gone he just wanted this whole experience to be over. It had not been the fun magical experience he'd been told it would be. It had been horrifying. Short of a couple moments of awe during the green's embrace he'd not enjoyed himself a bit. Now a crimson was stumbling across the sands. One of the last dragonets thankfully.

The baby crimson set one foot in front of the other and held her up high as she walked - though, much like a child, she walked in one direction and looked in another and the end result was walking straight into the egg Brakiath had broken and tossed.

Tripping over it, she cried out in surprise and fear at the good she'd just covered herself in. It smelled rotten! Flailing about, she finally managed to right herself she spent a moment crying before she realized she was fine and, with a whirr of sound, continued forth.

She just made the front row of the girls, having looked at the boys and snorted quite loudly - enough her hind legs hopped a bit - and nosed the first girl she came across, happy to meet them. Obviously not minding the contact, she was clearly using her appeal to draw the girls to her rather then searching hers out and tiring herself out completely.

Plexith had been about to answer Cepheith when all the cahos had begun and while the bronze would certainly love nothing better then to converse with her more he was also level headed enough to to know that she needed to concentrate at the moment and so he merely sent her a warm feeling of support and crooned sympathetic encouragement to Brakiath.

D'lin paled slightly when the gold queen swelled up and seemed about to engulf the girl who had stepped forward - brave maybe..but certainly not the brightest thing in the world. Then again he could imagine the conundrum on the sands - all the candidates wanted to find their dragon and he couldn't imagine the gnawing pain of standing back and watching while they might be trapped in their shells. Still it seemed like their Jr Weyrwomen had things well in hand.

Joy coursed through Nawa, but it was quickly followed by echoes of exhaustion and hunger. Without so much as an 'excuse me,' the young woman quickly slipped through the group of Candidates - she didn't have time to wait for anyone to get out of her way, not this time. Not with her poor, tired Rioth lying there in the sand! He'd made it such a long way, looking for her.

"You should have said something sooner," she told him quietly, kneeling beside him. "I'd've come to get you."

I wanted to walk, Rioth insisted. But I am tired now.

After considering for a moment how best to go about it, she carefully gathered him into her arms and stood. Shards, but he was heavy! He might be small compared to typical dragonets, but he was still a rather awkward armful for the girl. Nawa staggered briefly, but managed to slowly work her way over to the feeding tables, where she gently and gladly put him down.

You did not have to do that, Mine.

Yes I did. You walked far enough already. She bent to kiss the little dragon's snout before setting to feeding him.
