I think it would work nicely to have the symbol both ways the wing outspread open to the world and the wing pulling close as if embracing

That sounds strangel similar to the Statue in front of the Harada's Mansion in "DNAngel", the one with one wing folded over, and then one high in the air, simbolizing Rika Harada's last sight of Dark. neutral

Nah, it's ok. You're right. Oo It was his hair. It looked like a second wing was wrapped around him when he changed back. Huh. How come he even HAS a wing? The only other time I saw it was in Kingdom Hearts, and Cloud had one too, there.

Well, because when he turns into 'Safer' Sephiroth in FFVII, his right arm turns into a black wing, while the song in the background is called "One Winged Angel"(even though at the time he has a total of seven wings and no legs...) Plus it's just awesome.
And in Kindom Heart's weird philosophy, Sephiroth is supposed to be Cloud's dark half, so it makes sense that he has the other wing. Sorta. o.O Actually, Cloud's wing from KH looks more like Sephy's wing from FFVII....
