Of course the Energy Ball hit. How could it not. Robin's eyes were worried as she watched Black*Star tumble down after landing that hit. The Croconaw laid on the ground for a moment and Robin reached down for his pokeball. He had fought hard but he was against a disadvantage here. Plus two strong grass attacks hitting him right in the chest? There was no way he could keep battling after that. Just as Robin was lifting her pokeball to recall Black*Star, the Croconaw got up and shot her a look shaking his head. He could do this! He wasn't going to lose here, not like this. "Black*Star?" Robin called not wanting her pokemon to get hurt but also not really wanting to upset him. The two of them looked at each other for a brief second before Robin nodded. "You have thirty seconds before I recall you." She called out crossing her arms over her chest. Even if Black*Star was in the middle of an attack she was calling him back when his time was up.

The Croconaw nodded and turned towards his opponent staring him down. He had one shot at this and he had to make it count! That meant he should probably use that move he had learned earlier. Gathering the last bits of his strength, even he was not sure if he could last thirty seconds. No! He could, he didn't have to do anything afterwords, he just had to make this last attack count! He was going to show that Monferno that he could pull his own weight around here! The smug fire starter wasn't going to be cleaning up his battles. Using his momentary burst of anger induced strength he charged forward his fist glowing a bright white as he went down low gathering all the rest of his strength into his last attack. The one he learned from that Aerial Ace TM Robin had used on him.

Black*Star didn't even stay awake long enough to see if the attack had done even the smallest bit of damage. He was passed out and falling to the ground. The Croconaw didn't even get a chance to hit the ground as Robin recalled him back into his pokeball. "You did great Black*Star." Robin smiled gently at the ball before putting it back onto her belt. "All right then! Let's not delay this battle any longer! Ace your up!" Robin grinned as she tossed out the Monferno's pokeball. The Playful pokemon appeared out of the pokeball in a way that really would have made most people reconsider calling his type the playful pokemon type. Unlike most fire types this Monferno was cool as a cucumber as it surveyed the arena. Well at least he could tell who had battled before him considering the long torn up chunks of grass were in the shape of stars.

Amy stared at the fallen Tangela, blue eyes wide, her mouth hanging open, her expression testament to her complete surprise. Tina seemed less surprised at her own loss, silently recalling her Grass-type, which prompted the bespectacled girl to do the same with Flora. They remained quiet for a few moments, the sounds of Karrigan and Erika's battle drifting over to them through the trees. Amy still couldn't get over it. She had won. Slowly, she smiled, and there was a feeling that swept over her that made her full-out grin. She won!

"Congratulations," the older gym trainer said with a cool, small smile. "You put up a good battle! Your Pokemon really have some spunk to them. I ought to get a Bayleef of my own, huh? Meganium are just so pretty!" The seriousness of the moment diminished, returning to something casual, but Amy still smiled, light-hearted for now.

"Thank you!" she said, adjusting her glasses and tucking Flora's Pokeball back onto her belt. "I was really lucky to have chosen Flora... we're really great friends. You were really great at battling, you know." The girl offered Tina a kinder smile and got one in reply, before the girl made some other comment and shrunk back into the leaves around her, apparently heading somewhere to heal her Pokemon. Or perhaps spectate the rest of the match from a good spot. Amy debated following her for a moment, but then she shrugged and tried to maneuver her way through the greenhouse gym, following the sounds of the battle.

As Amy emerged from a pair of rose bushes, stumbling onto the edges of the battlefield, the first thing she noticed was the worry stretched across her friend's face. Then, she noticed the little, fallen Pokemon that she presumed to be Amber. Clasping a hand to her mouth, she tried to remain quiet as Karrigan recalled her Pokemon and thanked Erika for her battle, her tone polite and seemingly empty. She took a hesitant step forward, the rush of winning her first battle immediately forgotten in her concern for her companion. Despite the short time they had spent together (had they only really met each other this morning?), she felt close to Karrigan, and yet terribly far away. Did she hug her? Say nothing about it? Taking slow, measured steps, Amy reached the redhead and placed a gentle hand on her wrist, her voice quiet.

"Maybe we should go," she suggested softly, briefly making eye contact with the gym leader across the room. Then she returned her focus to Karrigan. "Are you all right?"

Aquarius had just stumbled back on the now very unstable and very slippery ground when he was barelled down by the Bibarel, who seemed incredibly larger up close. He cried out in pain and fell back, covering his face from the onslaught of attacks he knew were to come. Jade's eyes widened as she watched from the sidelines; the beaver was quick, wasn't she? He tried so hard, Jade thought, knowing that Aquarius was growing both weaker and more afraid by the round.

"Aquarius!" she called out, feeling suddenly useless. What would the kimono women have done in situations like these? The answer came to her without much thought: forfeit gracefully. They would've chastised her later, for getting in over her head. The little duck struggled to get up, slipping some in the mud, but he managed to do it. More than anything, he seemed quite winded, his chest heaving up and down to breathe. But when he glanced at his trainer, the Psyduck's head barely twitched in an affirmation. Yes, he would keep on fighting. "Water Gun, again!" It was better than nothing. Aquarius braced himself and aimed another steady jet of water, aimed right for the ferocious Bibarel.

Kilik dug his foot into the ground and held his ground as the giant wall of water came barreling their way. He glanced over the room as Kasiya's Flygon flew in for a Thunderpunch. When did she get one? he thought, blinking oddly at the dragon. The water came closer and then he realized that his Flareon was completely unprotected. There was no time to call out Aggron again to Protect them, and the water was moving too fast in order to go under the Hydro Pump that Pelliper used to part the wall. "Grra..." he clenched his fist and jumped forward, using his body to cover his Flareon and protect him. He felt the water crash over his back and he could feel the air leaving his lungs. Kilik held tight to his Flareon, trying his best to minimize the damage. He felt the water carry them away and crash into the back wall, again having the wind knocked out of him. The wave had crashed him near the ceiling and he hit the ground with a loud thud.

Kilik clenched his fist a little tighter as he slowly sat up on his elbows, water dripping over every inch of his body. Flareon, while still a bit wounded from the Surf, seemed alright. The boy smiled weakly and stood up very slowly, knees shaking. He lifted his eyes up to Milo and started shaking a little. Not out of fear, mind you, but he was feeling pretty weak.

Flareon looked up at his trainer and then turned attention to the group of Pokemon in front of him. He had never been in a large battle like this before; it was almost terrifying. But he knew that it was for justice! They were fighting for what's right! With Themis and Sirrius taking care of Xanthos, he was completely free to attack Portabello again with Flamethrower, blasting full force.

The Electivire spun around and crossed his arms over his chest, the stars blasting him and disappearing into a shower of sparks. "Ele..." he pushed his arms out and clenched his fists, smiling largely. The little tyke was giving it his all, that's for sure!

"Swift is a great attack!" Kilik commented, "Decently powerful," he did a squat, and ran his eyes up and down Kord to examine him. "And it can never miss. A solid move to use in a tight situation. Cable!" He whistled as he stood up and stretched a little, "Give Kord a taste of what he has to look forward to! Thunderpunch!" He swiped his hand through the air and smirked over at Katie.

Now Cable, he thought, I know you'll be a good boy and not actually hit him, okay?

"VIiiiiire!!" Cable stomped forward towards the Elekid and pulled his fist back. Lightning shot out of his two tails and electrified his fist as he swung it down on Kord, punching the ground a few inches in front of him. The sound of thunder echoed through their small battlefield, and it gave Cable a slight chill.

Riza narrowed her eyes when she heard the command for Camouflage, as it was new to her and she didn't know what it did. Once again she silently scolded herself for not bringing her Pokedex out with her, but considering how much she'd been soaked by Diemia diving into the pool, she was also partially glad she hadn't. She'd been expecting for the Starmie to blend in with the water and become hard to locate, but the Pokemon appeared again, looking no different, at least to the raven haired girl's eyes. She also wasn't sure if Diemia's attack was super effective or not as she couldn't see that well into the water. Riza sighed loudly, finding herself to be a bit bored now.

"Okay Diemia, it's time to play rough," she called. "Use Brick Break!" She still didn't know that Starmie had lost its psychic-typing but Brick Break was one of the Crawdaunt's stronger attacks regardless. Diemia swam forward, her eyes gleaming with malice as she reared back her powerful claws, preparing to slam them into the other water-type.

Kord hopped up and down excitedly, seemingly more glad that Cable was happy with his performance than anything else. Katie smiled too, happy that her little Elekid was happy. She glanced over at Kilik, wondering what other Pokemon he had, as the Electivire was obviously quite strong and well trained. She'd already garnered quite a bit of respect for the taller trainer, but admittedly some of it slipped away as he gave her a bit of a lecture on Swift. The orange haired girl rolled her ruby red eyes. "Well, obviously," she said, a little annoyed. "Spare me the lessons, Kilik. I graduated at the top of my class at the Jubilife Trainer's School and probably know a lot more than you think." She smirked a little to keep the mood light hearted, as she was still pretty sure she could probably learn at least something from the more experienced trainer. She pushed her bangs from her eyes and looked on as Kilik gave his next command.

When he heard the word 'Thunderpunch' something inside of Kord's mind seemed to click. It sounded familiar yet very far away, and a small bit of disappointment filled the Elekid. It was short lived, however, as Cable then proceeded to demonstrate the Thunderpunch. The Elekid's eyes were wide as saucers and electricity passed through the prongs on his head. He backtracked a bit and then stomped forward, once again imitating the Electivire before he jumped up, did a forward somersault and then slammed the ground, his two hands moving in an X shape as he demonstrated his favourite move for his new hero/idol.

Katie smiled, impressed with Kord's spunk, as usual. She folded her arms neatly across her middle and nodded. "Your Cross Chop is looking good, Kord."

Gardenia tilted her head at the exchange between Robin and her Pokemon, a little surprised. Most trainers would let their Pokemon go until they fainted, and she smiled, even as the gator rushed at Turtwig, preparing to attack one final time. It took a second longer than she liked for Gardenia to recognize the Aerial Ace, and by then it was too late to do anything. Her Turtwig did know how to use Protect, but there was no time. The Croconaw's attack hit him hard, and then just like that Black*Star had been recalled. Gardenia watched as the Tiny Leaf Pokemon struggled to stay strong. The gym leader could tell that had taken a lot out of him, and rather than force him to continue, she'd decided he'd had enough, as well. "Return, Turtwig, you did well, too," she said, smiling.

She looked on as her challenger then released a Monferno, and she grimaced inwardly. She never liked dealing with Fire-types, but it was only natural considering her gym specializing in grass-types. She held up her second poke ball, and let it fly, revealing her next Pokemon. It appeared to be some sort of flower bud and it appeared to be somewhat shy. "It's your turn, Cherrim," Gardenia said. Of course, there was no bright sunlight present so the Blossom Pokemon was currently in its Overcast form. "Let's start things off with a Magical Leaf!" Cherrim remained silent even as the green leaves at the top of its body had began to glow, and with a slight hop, a flurry of rainbow coloured leaves were unleashed at the fire-type.

"Sceptile! Snap out of it!" Amelia called, her face starting to show the slightest hint of worry. Kasiya couldn't help but feel a small tug at her heart, easily seeing the bond Amelia shared with her first Pokemon, even as the short, dark-haired girl commanded her Dustox to fire another Silver Wind at Twilight.

The moth's wings always looked so beautiful as the attack was launched, and Kasiya found her mind drifting back towards contests and appeals and combinations even as she called for her Umbreon to use Protect. The green barrier appeared in plenty of time, shielding Twilight from the powerful attack, and possibly saving him from being knocked out. Kasiya then called for Rosemary to attack the moth with Razor Leaf, and the Meganium, starting to look a little dishevelled from the battle, complied, her petals shaking as the sharp leaves were launched forward. The attack was relatively undamaging to the dual Poison and Bug-type, but combined with the hits it had taken before, and the Meganium's Leech Seed, it too was starting to look a bit under the weather. In a moment of pure excitement, Kasiya recklessly called for Twilight to bring down the Dustox with a Quick Attack, and it wasn't until the words had left her lips that she realized her mistake.

Oh no! was all she could think as Amelia gave another command, the Dustox's wings once again glowing brightly in reply. One final Silver Wind raced along the ground and slammed heavily into the oncoming Umbreon, and it hard, and for extra damage due to Twilight's weakness. For the second time that day, Twilight found himself falling to the ground, everything around him fading to black as he fainted, no longer able to continue. Despite having just had one of her Pokemon knocked out, Kasiya somehow kept herself together, and shouted for Rosemary to give the Dustox a Tackle attack. The much larger Meganium shook the ground as she ran, slamming into the moth Pokemon like a train and sending it spiralling. It fell to the ground, also unable to battle, and now bringing this battle to a duel of Grass-type starters, and fully evolved ones, at that.

Karrigan nodded meekly, no longer able to look Gym Leader Erika in the eye and she instead looked at the Vulpix's Pokeball in her hand, trying to figure out what had gone wrong. All three of her Pokemon had type advantages over Grass-types, so why didn't she win? Were there flaws in her strategies? Did she underestimate Erika? Or were her Pokemon just not strong enough? Her mind struggled with the questions and at first, she hadn't even noticed that Amy had returned from her own battle until the brunette had placed her hand on Karrigan's wrist, and the redhead subsequently jumped. "Oh, yes, you're right," she answered, allowing Amy to start to lead them back they way they'd initially come. "I-I'm okay, I think. A little... numb." It felt odd to admit her lack of feelings out loud, and she looked down at the ground, careful to navigate around the plants and roots so that she didn't step on them or trip and fall.

The redheaded girl said nothing else as they made it back outside, the warmth of the Celadon City atmosphere in stark contrast from the coolness of the greenhouse/gym. It still hadn't quite sunk in that she'd lost the match, and so handily, at that, but she forced it from her mind. She'd figure it out later, as her head was starting to ache. She finally replaced Amber's Pokeball on her belt, and she reached up and undid her ponytail, suspecting it had been too tight and partially to blame for her headache. Her palm had started to ache again as well but she ignored it, and instead turned her attention to Amy.

She would probably still be standing there, in Erika's gym, to dumbfounded to move if Amy hadn't been there to snap her out of it, and she forced on her usual little smile. "H-how did your battle go?" she asked, looking around to gain her bearings, and choosing a direction once she saw a sign that would point them to the Pokemon Center. "Better than mine, I hope," she added, forcing a small laugh.

Bibarel skidded to a stop, kicking up even more mud as she did so. She wheeled around to face Aquarius, only to get a jet of water right to the face. It was cold and actually somewhat forceful, and for an instant, the Beaver Pokemon grinned at the little yellow duck. He was a bit on the timid side sure but he also had guts. Jake was impressed as well, and he wondered what the little guy would be like once he had more battle experience under his belt. He yawned and stretched, and looked across the field at his training partner. "Hey, I think we should probably call it quits for now," he called. There was no need to render either Pokemon unconscious, as they'd only been training, after all. There was that, and it was starting to get late. Jake was sure his body hadn't quite recovered from whatever it was he'd gone through, and after the long walk from Jubilife to Floaroma, he was pretty wiped.

Bibarel looked back at her trainer in annoyance, but quickly let it go. They'd had a pretty busy day and even she was starting to feel a bit tired. She looked at the very muddy battlefield and smirked in amusement. The two Water-types had certainly made quite the mess.

"Return, Twilight, you deserve a nice, long rest."

"Come back, Dustox! You were amazing out there!"

The two Pokemon disappeared back into their respective Pokeballs in two separate beams of red light, and Kasiya and Amelia looked at each other from across the field, both wearing looks that were mixtures of unease and excitement. "This is getting good," Kasiya said, nodding to the still-confused Sceptile.

"You bet, but don't think you've won just yet. When Sceptile snaps out of it, he's going to cut your Meganium down to size!"

"You mean if," Kasiya retorted playfully. "Rosemary, use Reflect again," she said, knowing that Sceptile's Fury Cutter would be back to its normal, base power, and that Reflect had served her well in the first few rounds of battle. Rosemary nodded, a little sad that her Leech Seed was now gone, and she silently hoped that Kasiya would remember that she could use Synthesis as she summoned a fresh pane of reflective light to protect her from Sceptile's physical attacks.

"Come on, Sceptile! You can do it! Jump up and slash that Meganium to pieces with your Fury Cutter!" Amelia's voice was loud, and firm, and Kasiya couldn't help but wonder if it would actually get through to the poor, confused Sceptile. It seemed to do something, at least, as the tall Forest Pokemon managed to get to his feet, looking a bit wobbly. Its eyes narrowed and it focused on Rosemary as best it could, quickly noticing that both Dustox and the opposing Umbreon were no longer in the battle, meaning they both must have been knocked out. The Pokemon's leafy appendage grew long, and slender and it rushed at Rosemary, slashing horizontally with its Fury Cutter. The strike was true, but so was Rosemary's reflect and the shining pane of light flashed up, cutting down the damage of the Bug-type attack by quite a bit. Amelia was relieved that her Pokemon had shaken off the confusion, and now it was a matter of getting through the Meganium's defenses.

Misty had figured that Riza and her Crawdaunt would start to utilize more close-range attacks, and the gym leader grit her teeth as she readied her next command. "Starmie! Hit it with a Water Pulse!" she shouted, her confidence unwavering. "We're not giving in, not at all!"

The star-shaped Pokemon's core gem sparkled again, a sphere of condensed water forming in the center. Starmie waited, bracing itself as Diemia neared, and it waited until the Crawdaunt was in point blank range before it fired the Water Pulse, only to be hammered by the lobster's powerful claws a moment or so later. Needless to say the attack was quite damaging and now the core gem sported more cracks than before.

I almost hate to do this, Kasiya thought, a sly smile forming on her lips, but she shook the thought away quickly. Nah, I don't. Rosemary deserves a win. "Okay Rosemary, it's time to use Synthesis," she said, placing her hands on her hips. Rosemary breathed a sigh of relief, glad that her trainer had remembered her incredibly useful healing move. She closed her eyes and tilted her head up, her petals all fanning out and collecting the warm, nourishing sunlight. The sun's rays weren't as powerful as they could have been, but they were strong enough for the Meganium as she felt her energy being restored to her. Many of her wounds healed and she looked significantly stronger as she stared down her fellow Grass starter.

"Aww, not Synthesis," Amelia sighed, her voice nearly a whine. "Oh well, let's use that new move we've been practicing, okay, Sceptile? Just remember our training, and you'll be fine! Use X-Scissor!" Sceptile nodded, despite being a bit nervous of this command. They'd been working on this attack for the past few days, with the only real issue being that Sceptile had difficulty holding onto the energy in both arms. He raised his arms high overhead, the leaves lengthening even more than they had for his Leaf Blade and Fury Cutter attacks, and he raced toward the now-healthy Meganium. Once in range, he swept both arms down at the same time, creating an X-shape. Or, it should have been an X-shape, but his hold on the energy failed and it ended up looking more like a Y-shape. Regardless, the attack still struck Rosemary for significant damage, even with her Reflect blocking some of it. A deep gash had appeared on her left side, some of her flower petals having sustained some damage as well. The Meganium definitely preferred the Fury Cutter attacks to X-Scissor, even if Sceptile hadn't quite perfected it yet.

"X-Scissor," Kasiya murmured, furrowing her brow. "That could be trouble… Rosemary, try to weaken Sceptile with your Poisonpowder! You can do it, I know you can!" The girl hoped her cheers would encourage the Meganium, though the girl's mind couldn't help but flash back to memories of Rosemary. She could still see her as a tiny, newly-hatched and adorable Chikorita, perched on her new trainer's head with only the tip of her leaf visible. How she'd evolved into a tough little Bayleef to win a battle against a thick-armoured Aron, and all the other times the generally passive-natured Grass-type had stepped up when Kasiya needed her. She could see the Bayleef battling bravely alongside a determined little Marshtomp; the same two Pokemon playing around after eating their dinner together. Last, but certainly not least, she could see the Bayleef stepping up and saving her best friend, her amazing evolution into a magnificent Meganium triggered by her desire to protect Leviathan from harm. A shimmering, violet powder burst from Rosemary's frilly petals, settling in on the Sceptile even as it tried to back away.

"Sceptile! Get away from it!" Amelia had called, but it was far too late - Rosemary's Poisonpowder had been a success.

A rare grin had appeared on Diemia's face as she closed in for her Brick Break, and she hauled back her claws and slammed them forward. She wasn't expecting the Starmie to counter, however, and no sooner had her attack hit did she find herself with a face full of water. It wasn't overly effective but it was quite disorienting, and like the Quagsire before, Diemia had become confused. It was almost like a blinding rage coursing through the Crawdaunt and she rushed forward again, this time running headlong into the pool's wall.

'Oh s**t,' was all Riza could think of, as she recalled how badly the confusion had affected Misty's Quagsire before. "Diemia, calm down, snap out of it," she called, but she wasn't sure her voice would get through to her Pokemon. "Diemia!"

Indeed the Crawdaunt didn't hear her trainer and insisted on attacking the wall again, causing herself damage in the process. The dark haired girl felt a surge of panic, like she had the night before when she and Akima had been backed into a corner by Jerome and his Cacturne. 'No, this can't be happening,' she thought, eyes wide. 'We were doing so well, and now this?!'

Amy felt a rush of sympathy for Karrigan; she certainly had her share of losses, but Karrigan was a trainer, first and foremost, and she had seemed so confident in herself beforehand. She thought of saying something about how she suspected that Erika's gym was perhaps one of the tougher ones in the region; after all, did they have any idea what order they were supposed to challenge them in? The bespectacled girl led them outside, immediately assaulted by the heat of the summer air. Karrigan's Snowpoint City is sounding better and better now, Amy thought as they walked, finding that she was already beginning to sweat.

"My battle went okay," she responded after a moment, exchanging smiles with the redheaded girl despite the fact that she knew Karrigan's smile was not as genuine as she had hoped. Her companion had seemed a bit reserved so far, but Amy tried not to take it personally; it wasn't as if she was being rude, anyways. "I won, actually." She tried not to sound as proud as she felt, still concerned for her friend, but her smile broadened a little at the thought.

The walk to the PokeCenter was thankfully brief, being closer to the gym than it was to the Department Store, and they were welcomed with the gentle hum of an air conditioner unit. It had grown more busy as they continued into the afternoon, and they found themselves waiting a bit. Amy shifted back a little, allowing Karrigan to heal her Pokemon first. But, to help pass the time and to get the other girl's mind off the gym, Amy asked, "Well, do you know where you would like to go next?"

Aquarius tried not to flinch at the Bibarel's grin, seeming more feral than ever. He wouldn't have stood a chance against her in the wild, he knew. Jade seemed as impressed as the rest, having expected her Psyduck to retreat or backpedal or anything, but despite the slight widening of his eyes, he was standing his ground. The smirk arched on her lips could definitely be described as proud. But then Jake started talking about quitting, and her eyes snapped up to him. She half-wanted to protest, already thinking about how Solaris would've stood a better chance against his Grotle, but then she decided against it. It was obvious that Jake's Pokemon were stronger, and she knew that it would be a hopeless battle, either way. The training was great, nonetheless.

"All right," she conceded, recalling her little yellow duck just as he began to let out a sigh of relief. She gazed at the Pokeball in her hands, turning it around a little. "You did great, Aquarius. I'm really glad you're on the team." Jade clipped the Pokeball back on her belt and looked up at the blonde, raising her eyebrows. "You battled well. Color me impressed." Grinning, as if to make sure Jake knew she was just teasing, Jade tilted her head back up to the sky, feeling the warmth on her face. It was nice here. "What do you wanna do now? Heal up and head out? Or something else?"

Robin had no idea what that pokemon was that Gardenia released. She did know that the speedy retaliation of the Magical Leaf was going to make this pokemon dangerous! She did grin though as she watched her own speedy pokemon. Ace might look pretty laid back and not concerned with a whole lot of things but that didn't mean he didn't care.

While Robin might have been wondering what that pokemon was, Ace born and breed on Professor Rowans ranch knew a lot more about different types of Sinnoh pokemon then his trainer so it was ready for an attack. Still it was called right away and not even his reflexes were that fast, yet. Ace only had a brief moment to swish his tail up in flare of fire in an attempt to burn some of those leaves. Even with the training in evasion and his own brand of defense he still wasn't able to get them all. The Playful Pokemon grit it's teeth as a few of the multicolored leaves broke through and cut at him. Still, that wasn't enough to bring him down, not by a long shot.

"Right, great defense there Ace!" Robin cheered her pokemon on. "Now let's show them what it feels like to be in a burning ring of fire." Robin wasn't quite sure what this move was that Ace came up with earlier. It wasn't a fire spin since it didn't actually hurt the pokemon it surrounded, Ace didn't know that yet. Maybe it was a weaker version of it? Had he seen it when he was younger and did his best to try to emulate it? Robin wasn't quite sure. Whatever it was though she saw it usually helped as a sort of extra defense for them. That and let's face it, even she would be scared if she had fire surrounding her in the battle even if it wasn't burning her! This was a gym leaders pokemon though, they were probably made of tougher stuff.

While Robin mused on her pokemon's attack Ace didn't move right away. He wasn't quite sure but he had a feeling that he really shouldn't be getting to close to this pokemon. Maybe it was a residual feeling from his last gym battle that had ended badly for him? No it had to be something else. The fire monkey wasn't feeling to good about this for some reason but his trainers call was actually a good one so there was no reason to really disobey. Charging forward the fire monkey lept and folded up into a ball and activated his flame wheel attack. This was a tiny little grass pokemon and he was going to have to be careful to surround the thing.

It was a testimate to how well the gym was maintained by how precisely and how difficult the grass was to burn here. Even with the flames surrounding him Ace knew it would take a few times around to surround this pokemon, ample time for an attack before the ring was how he would like it.

We've got this now, I know it, Kasiya thought, a flutter of excitement passing through her. Even if Amelia kept having Sceptile attack with X-Scissor, she could just call for Rosemary to heal herself with Synthesis again and again, and let the poison do all the work. As tempting as that was, Kasiya didn't want to end it that way, so she decided to be a little more offensive. "Now hit 'em with Razor Leaf!" the blonde girl called. Another volley of sharp leaves were flung across the battlefield, but poisoned or not, Sceptile and Amelia were not going to make things easy. The Sceptile was amazingly agile and it was able to evade the Razor Leaves with considerable skill.

"Sceptile, it's time to try something a little different. Use Screech, and then follow up with X-Scissor as soon as you get a chance!" Amelia called. Her Pokemon nodded, using its superior speed to get in close to the Meganium. The Forest Pokemon opened its mouth and unleashed a horrible sound, like forks scraping across a plate and fingernails on a chalkboard all rolled into one awful sound. Rosemary couldn't hold back a shriek of pain as her ears were violated by the noise, and as they'd planned, Sceptile leapt forward, its leafy blades glowing brightly as it slashed downward in the familiar X-shape. This one was much better than the first, though the right arm was still a little weaker than the left, and Rosemary staggered back from the powerful, super-effective strike.

Okay, that was good, Kasiya thought, biting her lip a little. She knew that Screech was a great way to weaken an opponent, as she often had Seto use that exact same move. It had even essentially rendered Rosemary's Reflect useless, which was another big problem. As the Sceptile shuddered from the HP-draining Poison, Kasiya knew she'd have to finish this a lot quicker than she'd initially anticipated. It was now that she recalled her earlier loss, and her eyes narrowed. Two losses in one day wasn't something she wanted to experience again. She glanced to her Pokemon watching from the sidelines, her gaze falling on Nova in particular. It seemed the Charmeleon recognized the Sceptile, and Kasiya couldn't help but wonder if the Fire-type still held a grudge against Keegan's Grovyle, Pan. Okay, I can do this. We can do this. We've got it. She shook any negative thoughts away, and focused on their opponents. Sceptile had no healing moves, and while she could use another Synthesis, she really didn't want to resort to that. Her eyes lit up, recalling a move available to the Meganium, and she smiled. "Rosemary, let's show them your Petal Dance!"

If there was ever a time where the tables had turned, this was certainly one of them as even Misty couldn't believe that the Crawdaunt had been confused by Starmie's Water Pulse. She feared for the walls of her pool, however, as the powerful Dark/Water-type crashed into the side. It looked painful, but Misty knew this was a good opening for her and Starmie to play catch-up.

A sympathetic smile was on the gym leader's face as she called out to her partner. "Starmie, go ahead and use Recover!" They might as well, considering they had a momentary advantage and they should capitalize. Starmie drifted away from the confused Diemia on the off-chance it'd get the chance to attack, the pretty red jewel that served as its core beginning to glow brightly. A refreshing, comforting warmth washed over the Mysterious Pokemon, healing many of the cracks that had formed in its gem. With up to half of its HP restored, Starmie felt ready to fight, and ready to defend the gym's honor.

"Petal Dance?" repeated Amelia, her Sceptile sharing her shocked expression. Rosemary gave a slight nod, knowing that it was easily the strongest move she had at her disposal, even though it could be dangerous to herself in a few rounds as well. She reared up on her hind legs, her pink petals shimmering and shining as they seemed to grow and split, creating a veritable blizzard of pink flower blossoms. A gust of wind, seemingly out of nowhere, blustered past, catching the blossoms, and it shifted them into a surprisingly violent tornado of dancing flower petals, and with Rosemary's direction, the powerful, yet beautiful attack slammed into the Sceptile, knocking it quite forcefully to the ground. "Sceptile!" Amelia shouted. "You can do it! Get up and use X-Scissor, one more time!"

"Keep it up, Rosemary!" Kasiya shouted as well, though it wasn't like the Meganium could stop her Petal Dance now that it was active. Sceptile's leaf blades were glowing brightly as it raced toward Rosemary, already in the process of conjuring a second round of blustering pink petals. Sceptile gave a cry as it jumped through the petals, trying not to wince or cry out as he was attacked from all directions and he pushed through, managing to slash an X-shape on the Meganium's side. Rosemary gave a pained cry, the two now disappearing in the flurry of petals. Both trainers called out to their Pokemon, eyes wide with worry. When the whirling petals died down, the two Pokemon were still facing each other, determined looks plastered to both of their faces. A small breeze ruffled Kasiya's hair, and she sighed, her eyes closing as Sceptile gave a weak cry and collapsed on the ground, unable to continue fighting. Rosemary wasn't far behind him, though she held on long enough prove herself the winner and then she too toppled over, eyes squeezed shut.

"Rosemary!"

"Sceptile!"

Amelia and Kasiya both raced toward their fallen Pokemon, Amelia letting out a relieved sigh when the Forest Pokemon gazed up at her and gave thumbs up. Kasiya dropped to her knees and cradled Rosemary's head in her lap, kissing the Meganium's forehead. "Rose… you're amazing," she told the Grass-type. "You've grown up so much and I can't put into words just how proud of you I am. You're amazing." Aware but not caring that she'd called her Pokemon 'amazing' twice, Kasiya resisted the urge to squeeze her injured companion and instead settled for a gentle hug before recalling her into her Pokeball for a well-deserved rest.

Bibarel blinked and looked up at Jake as Aquarius flinched. She hadn't been trying to scare him that time. Oh well, she tried to forget about it and settled for a gentle pat from her trainer before he put her back into her Pokeball for a good rest. He minimized the sphere and rolled it around in his fingers before glancing over at Jade and smiling. "Heh, thanks, I think," he said, also glancing up at the sky. "You didn't do so bad, yourself. It was fun," he added. The wind picked up slightly and he felt a chill go through him, though it was possibly due to the fact that he was soaked and covered in mud. He was certainly glad he'd kept his aviator jacket in the ratty old backpack Professor Rowan had given him, but the rest of his clothing was another matter. The cutoff jeans were already fraying pretty badly from his terrible cutting job earlier, and his once-white shirt was splotched with brown patches of mud. He didn't have any extra clothes with him, and he wasn't so sure he wanted to sit around in a towel or a robe while his sad excuses for clothing were being washed and dried.

"Hmm? Oh," he realized then that Jade had spoken, asking what they should do next. "Well, it wouldn't hurt to get Aquarius and Bibarel healed before we go anywhere else," he reasoned. And I wonder if the nice nurse could point me in the direction of some more respectable clothes, his mind added as an afterthought. He motioned for them to head back inside the Pokemon Center, going so far as to hold the door open for his female companion as it seemed subconsciously, the manners he'd been taught while growing up still ruled most of his everyday life.

Karrigan was also not a fan of the heat, and she squinted her eyes and kept her gaze down, trying to ignore the longing she felt for her hometown as it wasn't likely for her to get sunburned when outdoors. She wiped her forehead with the back of her good hand. "Oh, that's good, congratulations," she said, giving a little nod. At least one of them had come out of the gym a winner, and for that Karrigan was glad. She knew she shouldn't let her loss get to her, no matter how bad it had been.

Even though the walk to the Pokemon Center was quite short, the redheaded girl had managed to wind up feeling very warm, and she sighed with relief the moment they had entered the cool, climate-controlled air of the Pokemon Center. For a moment she just stood there, allowing the cool air to blow on her hot skin, and she looked around, noting that there were many more people here than before. When her temperature had gone down a bit, she shuffled into the line, readying Ikouma, Lennier, and Amber's Pokeballs. She glanced over at her friend, her mind relatively blank. "I-I don't know," she answered honestly, and she looked at the tiles on the floor. It had been her idea to go to the gym, but now, she wanted to be as far away from it and Erika and her Grass-types as possible. "At the very least, away from h-here." She took her turn getting her Pokemon healed, and she moved aside so Amy could do the same once hers had received treatment. "Is there someplace else you wanted to go?" she asked, as it was only fair, after all.

Things were definitely unraveling fast, and once again Riza was reminded of the final round of the contest last night. She knew the only reason she'd managed to turn that one around was because Fantina had known the Razor Claw would trigger Akima's evolution into a Weavile, and as far as Riza knew, Diemia could not evolve again. The raven haired girl's panic continued to rise, as she wasn't sure what she could do until the Crawdaunt snapped out of it. She was too distraught to even realize that Misty's Starmie had used Recover, and was looking as healthy as it had at the start of the match.

'I-I don't know what to do,' she thought, looking around almost frantically. Her gaze landed on Shiro, perched on the bleachers and well out of speaking range, so even he couldn't offer some advice. She looked back at the pool as Diemia had stopped attacking the wall and was now just sitting there. "Come on, Diemia," she shouted suddenly, startling even herself. "Snap out of it! Get in there and use Brick Break again." Diemia still didn't move, but it looked as though she may have heard Riza's voice. At the very least, she'd stopped causing herself damage, at least for now.

One definitely had to admit that Robin had some interesting and creative Pokemon on her team, as first the field had been torn up by the aggressive Croconaw and now it looked as though it might suffer some burns. It was safe to say that Gardenia didn't really know what Robin and her Monferno were up to, but it didn't look too good. It looked as though Ace had started to use a Flame Wheel, but he did not attack the Overcast form Cherrim, at least not yet and Gardenia was grateful for the well-cared grass as it would be difficult to ignite. In the meantime, she looked over at her Cherrim, and though its current form hid its face, she knew it was just as confused as she was.

Normally, by now, Gardenia would have called for Cherrim to use Sunny Day as the Pokemon gained more mobility in its Sunshine form, but since she was dealing with a fire-type now, she knew it would do more harm than good. So, she decided to play it defensive for now. "Cherrim, stay sharp and use Growth," she called out finally. The Blossom Pokemon seemed to shrink down slightly and then grow, boosting its attacking power while it kept a hidden eye on the flaming Monferno.

Amelia had recalled her Sceptile as well, and the two girls stood up, looking toward each other silently. A moment or two passed, and then they both smiled and laughed, now walking toward each other for the traditional after-battle handshake. "Okay, I have to admit, that was one of the best battles I've had recently," Amelia said, taking her loss rather well, much to Kasiya's relief.

"Same," Kasiya agreed, almost more happy that she could once again able to partake in normal battles than the fact that she'd won. Taking down Magma Grunts and their Pokemon didn't really count, at least in her eyes, and other than the match with Haruka earlier, and the battle she'd had with Keegan the night before the Magma mission, she hadn't been battling much. I guess I need to change that, especially if I want to get strong enough to rescue Shocker, she thought, kneeling down to pat Nova on the head as her Pokemon had wandered out onto the field to congratulate her. Well, everyone except for Alphonse, who strayed along behind, looking a bit disappointed. Fang had perched on Calliope's back, and the young Tropius didn't seem to mind ferrying a passenger, and she nuzzled Kasiya's arm with her head. "You guys," the girl laughed, doing a mental head count before she noticed that Al was dragging his feet. "Oh, chin up, Al!" she said, walking over to him and scooping him up into her arms. "You've had a bad day so far, but you'll get there. That's why we have to keep training." Al started to squirm in Kasiya's grip, but he gave up rather quickly as his trainer cuddled him.

"Your Piplup sure is a cutie," Amelia said, her Azurill now perched on her shoulder and looking bouncy and cute and very awake. Being called a 'cutie' prompted Alphonse to frown and look away from the dark-haired girl after shooting her a death glare. How dare she call him cute? He was big and tough and strong and he could have taken out any of those Pokemon if he wanted to.

"He is cute," Kasiya agreed, poking the penguin Pokemon's belly as he glared up at her now as well. "He's really stubborn, though," she added as Alphonse puffed out his chest and scoffed. Kasiya sighed, wishing he'd lose the tough-guy act. She did think it was cute sometimes, but she was more than certain his attitude was going to get him seriously hurt someday.

While Misty wouldn't say she was enjoying Riza's panic, she was enjoying the fact that she had assumed control of the battle, and she looked over at her Starmie, who was also happy to not currently be on the receiving end of the Crawdaunt's brutal attacks. But, as Misty knew, confusion would not last forever, so she would have to act fast if she wanted to end this on her terms. It wasn't that Misty didn't like awarding deserving trainers her Cascade Badge, as it was more a sense of pride at being able to defend it.

"Starmie, Swift attack," she called, pointing downward, into the water. "Don't hold back!" The Mysterious Pokemon, still keeping its distance from Diemia, unleashed a volley of bright, glowing stars and they sped, unimpeded, through the water toward the Crawdaunt.

The girls had cleaned up everything from their lunch and recalled their Pokemon before discussing what they planned to do next. Kasiya had decided that she wanted to keep heading toward Lilycove City, though she had no real reason as to why. She felt a strange mixture of disappointment and relief as Amelia mentioned that she planned to continue on to Fortree as she was eager to start training for a challenge at Winona's gym. Kasiya bid her new friend farewell, certain that she'd probably meet her again someday (as she almost always did run across people she'd met or battled before), and she continued along the route for about twenty minutes, seeing only a few wild Zigzagoon scavenging for food before she decided she wanted to be in Lilycove now, rather than later. She released Fang once again, and the Crobat appeared in a shower of gold and green sparkles before proceeding to fly his usual three laps around the blonde before coming to land in front of her.

"Some things never change, do they, Fang?" she asked with a giggle, though she was glad that he'd changed his habit to land in front of her rather than try to tackle her from behind, like he had done when he was only a tiny Zubat. "Wanna Fly me to Lilycove City?" The Crobat seemed to ponder the idea for a moment and he nodded, turning his back to her and spreading his wings so his trainer could climb on. Admittedly, Kasiya always felt a bit nervous when flying with Fang - regardless of the distance, and she was certain she'd continue to feel that insecurity, especially now that she'd grown quite used to flying with her "borrowed" Flygon, Sirrus. That wasn't the case as she climbed on Fang's back and held on, planting a kiss on the top of the goofy Crobat's head. "All right, let's go," she said, and with a few quick flaps of his double-set of wings, the Crobat took to the air, letting out a happy screech before he took off. Kasiya had forgotten just how speedy the Crobat was, and was enjoying the flight before she realized something crucial. "Uh Fang," she called, lowering her head to keep the wind from her eyes, "Lilycove City is the other way!"

Once he was put on the right track, it didn't take long for Fang to make up the ground, and within a matter of minutes Kasiya could see Lilycove City in the distance. The Department Store stood out the most, being one of the tallest buildings in town and she sighed, still unable to believe that this was the same Lilycove that had been ravaged by the feuding Groudon and Kyogre all those years ago. You'd hardly know it now, though, the girl thought, remembering the fundraisers and telethons that had been set up to help the costal Hoenn City recover from the damage, and how many people had flocked to Lilycove to aid in everything from helping the injured to making sure everyone had food, clean water, and shelter for the city's rebuilding. "It's too bad it takes a great tragedy like that to bring people together," the girl said to herself, shaking her head. The flight lasted only a few minutes more and soon the shiny, green Crobat had pinpointed the Pokemon Center and was making his way toward it. For a glorious moment, Kasiya thought Fang would land them safely, but at the last minute the Crobat decide to do an aerial barrel roll, and Kasiya found herself on a collision course with the ground, which granted, wasn't as bad as the many times Fang had dumped her to the ground in the past. She fell about seven feet instead of the usual ten or twenty, and she managed to land somewhat on her feet, teetering dangerously before she finally lost her balance and wound up on her rear, sighing in dismay. "The more things change, the more they stay the same," she grumbled, holding up the Crobat's Pokeball and recalling him as she stood up and brushed the dust from her skirt and leggings. "Idiot bat."
