"I can't Simon!" the small boy cried out as his hands started to shake. He could feel it too. He could hear it. The plan Velda had set into motion... Piglet wanted to watch, as if his very line of sight could somehow keep their beloved leader alive... But doing so would be foolish.
For a moment, Ralph paused, a stoic look on his face as his weapon's words echoed throughout his mind. "Simon... I've never much cared for the view of this world. Being trapped in such a small body, your perspective is skewed a little bit." Slowly, his arms raised up. "Even the view from the top of this building, it's much too low. But once we escape from these prisons we call bodies, the sky is the limit." For once, Ralph Hutchinson didn't stutter. He wasn't afraid anymore. He didn't care who overheard his self-comforting speech. No, perhaps he wanted them to hear. To take solace in a voice without regrets.
The Argus returned to them as Piglet motioned it back just as the barrier broke. Things were going wrong, just as they had always been supposed to. The sound of arrows caught his ears, and as they came down to crash...
Ralph initiated the self-destruct sequence.
His little body was sent back flying, the debris of what had been a beautiful piece of technology leaving the boy's now crisp, smoking limbs and face. He couldn't see. Couldn't open his eyes... But he could hear.
"It's... It's okay Clint." Piglet practically hissed as his mangled lips parted, the cracks exposing soft and bloody flesh. "We'll have all the time in the world... To sort it out..."
It was painful to talk. So excruciatingly painful. Tears tried to flow out of eyelids that had burnt shut. Not because the boy was sad, but he had always been a wuss when it came to pain. Crying was just second nature.
It's your turn to DM Simon.
Silence for a moment. <... Roll a constitution check.>
Piglet's crisp fingers reached in to touch the D20 he had always kept with him, temporarily forgetting it was replaced with a digital creature his leader had given him.
Though... As his unfeeling digits found a larger shape, the boy cracked a bleeding smile. "... Velda."
"You're beautiful."
<You rolled a 20, Ralph.>
And with the piercing of an arrow through the boy's chest, the pain was gone.
