Constance glanced over at the other boxes suspiciously. If they really were looser... maybe they wouldn't be too bad. She could tolerate it to help make Flora happy, right? "Parties..." Was a party like the recent festival? That would be nice...
Running her hand over the fabric again, getting herself used to the foreign touch, she gave a small nod. "Yes," she replied with utmost sincerity, oblivious to Akiye's amusement. "Since leaving my family for the forest, no one but my guardian has ever gotten me anything. Nothing like this, either." And the fact that the cold male was the one to pick out something so lovely... Oh! Right! He was waiting to see! Oh? Dinner? "Thank you, Akiye," she called as the centauress left. She paused another moment, just looking at the shawl. It was so odd to wear... but not too bad. Yes. She could handle this.
With a small breath, she hobbled over to the door and poked her head out before her body followed. Would it be obvious that she rarely wore these? Her vines held the shawl firm as she clasped her hands together. "Thank you, Triston. I like these- um- the..." what was the name...? "..the shawls." She smiled again, her tail swaying contently. It was a little like the cloak Triston wore in the summer...

Akiye noticed Constance’s gaze and just laughed softly, “Don’t worry. We’ll work on it. She won’t expect ya to wear them so much, she just wanted you to have something in case you ever felt cold beneath that magic of yours.” She waved her hands in the air, “We centaurs aren’t used to the idea of having magic after all~ It would be like someone colorblind trying to paint the rainbow.” She grinned playfully before actually seeming sincere about the female’s reaction to the gifts. Ah, so it was like that.
“Well don’t worry. You’ll receive so much over your stay here that you won’t know what to do with it.” Akiye chuckled, “That is if you manage to nudge someone every time you go to market.” Triston wasn’t the most observant cattaur when it came to things like this, but if he noticed an attraction to something it wouldn’t surprise Akiye if he picked it up for Constance. Oh that silly boy~
“You’re welcome! But thank him too since he did use his own pay for that shawl you love so much~” Humming the centauress disappeared into another hall of the tavern where she sought out the other girls.
Blinking Triston looked over as Akiye left and Constance came out just behind her. He had really stayed that long then? Something about the artistic centauress always got him in these situations. She had a way about getting him to listen to her that not even Flora had. His hand fiddled with a glove before he paused at Constance’s approach. Looking up as she thanked him the cattaur just nodded as he observed the cattaur. She seemed to be doing better and had a healthy glow about her, “You’re welcome.” He looked away after realizing he had probably been staring at her. It was interesting to see her wearing something other than just the vines…not that they weren’t lovely either. It was just the idea that she was here in a landscape about to be painted by winter…that was interesting. But he was glad that she had liked that one after all. Perhaps it was a good thing that Akiye forced him to dig through the stalls and make choices instead of just leaving everything to her.
“Flora was afraid the snows would be too cold.” Triston explained quietly. Why he had to be the one sent on such a mission though…that was beyond him. Flora had just told him that morning that Akiye was back and that he should meet her in the forest then go to market in order to pick up some belongings for the summer cattaur. A feeling tugged at the back of his mind but the cattaur pushed it aside. Surely they weren’t up to anything suspicious again.

Constance was staring at the shawl again, thinking about Akiye's last comment. Triston had used his own pay to get the shawl... Pay was what someone earned after working, right? Those coin things. Triston had used his special spending coins on her? She looked up as he looked away, and she giggled softly. How sweet! He was so much different in the cool air, than in the heat when she'd first met him.
"I.. truly do not know if it would be too cold or not. I've never been through a winter before." Her tail twitched with a little more energy. "I'm looking forward to it though. Zura told me all about it, and it sounds so exciting. I want to see the snow and the ice and the snowball fights and the moonlight on unbroken snow." A playful little smile rose, her eyes flicking between Triston and the window at her side. "I should think I'll be able to handle it. After all, I like being around you very much, and you're an embodiment of winter, are you not?"

Triston looked back at her with a slight raise of his eyebrow. As weird as the idea was it did fit the summer cattaur. He remembered the pygmy which acted as her guardian as well and he paused, “You’ll find out.” He commented quietly before slowly adding, “If it gets too bitter don’t worry.” We’ll take care of you. His gaze flickered away guiltily. It was really his fault that she was stuck here as well for the winter. She probably was already missing the summer warmth. How could she who still thrived with plants now want to see the dead landscape of winter? Though admittedly for him it was a thriving one where ice gleamed with life and the winds whistled freely. For others, however, it wasn’t so much.
His gaze slightly lightened with surprise though as she told him she was actually excited for it. Of course Zura could paint a lovely picture out of winter. The thought nearly made him smile. It was a mix of the thought of winter actually being seen as enjoyable and the feeling of relief that Constance actually wished to live through it. Surely he was afraid that she would coil away from the ice, but then again she often reached out for him despite his own…temperament. His gaze flickered back towards her face for a good moment at her comment about liking being around him. “Even despite things?” He quietly asked with a hint of surprise. Wouldn’t she rather be angry at him for destroying the life she so cherished and then for allowing her to get hurt as she had? A chill settled in his chest. Surely, it was only a comment nothing really well thought about. Especially if she knew what he truly was.

Constance cocked her head slightly with a curious smile. Don't worry? Okay... She wouldn't worry. Being surrounded by so many friendly faces, and one face that didn't always look friendly, but she knew she could count on, how could one be bothered with worrying about anything?
Her ears perked at Triston's question, her warm gaze meeting his cool one. "Despite things? What things?" Her brow knit slightly with concern. But, he'd saved her from those men... had bought her the shawl... had made her the ice rose... Was he actually mad at her under that placid expression? He probably wasn't used to someone taking so much of his time up. Maybe he truly didn't like how opposite she was from him...? "Please, don't let our magic keep us from being friends! I do like being with you! No one has given me the time of day before like you have! No one ever took me to a festival, or gave me a shawl, or bothered learning my name!" She blushed and looked down. "No one ever showed me there was more in this world than the forest... Please stop being mad at me! I'll try to stop being so much trouble, I promise!"

Watching the female before him Triston found himself constantly surprised. He never really could get a good grip of what was going through her mind. Rather she continuously sent him for a spin with her actions and comments. And as she questioned his own concern Constance twisted things again. She was blaming herself? The winter cattaur actually found something rare coming from him at the thought. A quiet laugh, just a short one, escaped before he shook his head at the summer cattaur.
She really thought he was mad at her when she should be recoiling from him? She really was an odd one! Triston’s icy blue gaze studied her with a glimmering expression. She really thought that highly of him that she was this upset? Had he really done so much for her? All of that had only gotten her in that situation…if he hadn’t come along then she could have died. The thought mad him want to comfort her. Nothing had been her fault after all. Triston nearly reached out to touch her shoulder but thought better of it and pulled back with his hand clenching at his side, “Constance…” The ice cattaur shook his head again still surprised by her outburst. “You… really?” It really baffled him that while she blamed herself he had been blaming himself as well this whole time.
Triston backed away from her and after a moment paused again to look back towards the female, “I’ve never been mad.” He added firmly with a nod, “But dinner is soon, friend.” With that he disappeared around the corner in his usual quiet way.

Wringing her hands, Constance was terrified. She'd never had a friend like Triston, and she didn't want it to be false! He was so curious and unique. She loved how different they were; it made things so much more interesting. It made her want to learn all she could about winter. His presence in her life had opened so many doors for her. Clothes, the inn, the ladies within the inn, festivals, porridge! It'd opened up the door to evil men as well, but he had made sure to quickly close that door so that she would be safe...
She peeked up at the icy male as his tone shifted. Had she heard... a laugh? She still couldn't tell. He seemed confused though, and she felt her sadness grow as he backed away. Wait... Never? Friend! She was frozen in place as the male left her sight before she shrieked and giggled like an excited school girl. Friend! He said he'd never been mad! Friend! ..She'd never heard such noise from herself before... Quite beside herself with delight, she turned to quickly hobble back into the room and give the sweaters another chance. Maybe she could find one of those open-neck ones Akiye had described to wear to dinner?

“Are we really doing this?” Another giggle as a hand had to be clamped over a mouth.
“Yes! But if you keep blurting out stuff, Shona, you’ll ruin the surprise~”
“Oh he will want to kill us for this one.”
“It’ll be worth it.”
“You guys should have just seen it.” Akiye leaned in and grinned at Zura and Shona who were gathered in the kitchen, “I think this is a wonderful way to pass our winter~”
“You would Akiye.” Smiling though her gaze was slightly sad Zura started to shuffle through the porcelain they had, “Silver and blue or?”
“Go for the copper and gold since it is still autumn.” Akiye commented, “It’ll match the leaves beautifully.”
“Leave it to the artist to decide that.” Shona chimed in before brushing a flower back into her hair. “Do you think they’ll do it?”
“It’ll work don’t worry.”
Zura just shook her head at her two friends before working on fixing up the table for dinner. Steaming rolls and salads with freshly grilled fish…everything looked wonderful. Her heart clenched in her chest despite the happiness that came along with it. Time to stop being so greedy and let something new happen. She crossed her arms before sneaking out of the dining room which was already empty. Flowers and fall wreaths that her and Flora had put together earlier that morning hung decorating the main hall while Shona had gone and lit candles in stained glass orbs so that their colors could reflect on the wooden walls. Akiye had masterfully set the scene in her own way as well with the ribbons and streamers for fall. It really was pretty especially as the sun was beginning to set and leaving streaks of colors in the sky…the centauress sighed softly. Maybe one day she would have the same.
Watching her friend Akiye petted Spirit who hovered lightly on her shoulder, “Maybe one day she’ll find a Ghost like you did.” Her golden gaze lingered for one more moment before she stepped back outside into the gardens, “Either way this was her choice and idea. So let’s go~” Tucking a paintbrush behind her ear the centauress made her way back towards Constance’s room. Knocking lightly she peered into the doorway, “Anyone home?”

When Akiye knocked at the door, Constance was taking a few deep breaths. She'd managed to find a sweater in the boxes that was, well, not even really a sweater. It was a crochet shirt of a dark orange yarn, and had the gapping holes that implied another shirt was meant to be underneath. In her case, her vines continued to play that role. It had a low scoop neck though, so she thought it was perfect for a first step. She put the shawl over that, and smiled. She looked like the folks in town now with all their layers! She was able to tone her magic back a little bit, and giggled. If Euthalia could see her now!
She looked up when the knock came, and she smiled brighter. "I found one!" she purred, holding her arms out away from her sides to display her chosen outfit. "What do you think?"

Peering in Akiye just smiled at the cattaur. So she really was going to try the clothes then? Not that she personally minded, but another worry of Flora had been their customers. Even though they were pretty vigilant at the tavern an occasional taur would wander in to make trouble. Constance would have been such an easy target. Though the image of Triston’s reaction really could inspire a painting…so it might be worth the risk. A small mischievous grin lingered before she focused back on Constance.
“Only you could pull off such a move,” Akiye commented lightly with a warm smile, “I like it.”The cattaur really was adorable. Like a kitten just exploring from its mother. She reached up for the brush that was resting behind her ear, “Want me to fix something else before dinner?” Taking out the bag she had tucked beneath her arm Akiye revealed a variety of paints, “Just tell me what you want on that thing and I’ll do it~” She winked, “Just nothing too inappropriate please.”

The first comment threw her a little, but the approval brightened her smile right back up. Constance looked down at herself, tail swaying. If Flora wanted her to wear clothes, then she would try her best to. After all, Flora and the others were doing so much for her already.
Head tilting, she smiled as the paints were revealed. That was right! "I trust you to paint whatever you think would look best," she replied, moving to take a seat and stick her wrapped leg out comfortably. She had no idea what would be good on a cast... so why not leave it to the artist?

“You really…” Akiye just laughed softly, “I’m glad you are here, Constance. I hope your leg does heal soon, but this winter definitely will be something else.” Placing her head in her hands the centauress studied the cast and then her paints back and forth. “Hmm…” Finally she grabbed some and mixing a burgundy color painted the whole cast in it. Then came the gold with some silver and black for swirling vines and flowers with the occasional falling feather blended in. It matched nicely with Constance’s fur color. Smiling Akiye looked at Constance once her work was quickly finished, “Don’t touch it for a bit and it should dry soon…though I just realize you could dry it yourself.”
Cattaurs and their magics. Akiye thought with amusement before commenting, “It’s nothing fancy, but it’ll not stick out like a sore thumb now.” Standing up she flicked the paint from her brush into an old cloth and rolled it back up into her pack, “Ready for dinner now princess?”

Constance smiled warmly. "I'm glad to be here, too." The circumstances of her stay were unfortunate, but she truly was glad to be here. She watched the painting being done with great interest, thrilled as the plain cast became a lovely work of art. As it was, her radiant heat was already drying the paint steadily.
"I love it," she purred, giving Akiye a big smile. "Thank you!" She pushed herself up, ears twitching with an amused giggle. "Princess? I'm no such thing. The princesses from my childhood lived in grand homes within the great trees of the forest. They had servants and the finest clothing made of what the forest could provide, and great bountiful feasts, and parties every night." She giggled again. "That all sounds like a bit much for me. However, dinner does sound wonderful."
'Dinner is soon, friend.' Feeling as though she was walking on air despite the cast, she made sure the vines were holding her new clothes secure before stepping out with Akiye. "What are we having to eat today?"

Spirits cattaurs could be the cutest things sometimes! Akiye had to keep herself back from hugging Constance as she let out a purr. Now why couldn’t she make adorable noises like that? The centaur smiled, “Well here you can be considered one, my lady. For me a princess isn’t the fancy castle type, but one of a radiant heart.” She winked lightly before patting the cattaur’s arm playfully, “As it is that dinner idea does sound wonderful to me as well.” Just for a different reason. She had to hide the mischievous giggle that the thought created.
Coughing into her hand instead Akiye slowed as they walked through the garden, “A good deal of food tonight. Maybe fish and salads of all sorts? Maybe if we’re lucky dessert as well! The kitchen has been rather busy today~” Still as they passed towards the doors leading into the main room she paused and snapped her fingers, “Oh! I just forgot I had something to do~ You go on ahead inside Constance and enjoy dinner, the table is already set for you. I’ll come get food later. Bye!” Not hesitation she jumped from the porch and disappeared around the side in a flash.
At the opposite doors Triston walked with Zura who was holding onto a lantern to light the way since the sun was already low in the evening sky, “Alright you go on inside and I’ll be there in a bit. Flora wanted me to help light the lanterns in the garden since it’s dark already.” She giggled uncomfortably. This whole lying thing was not her forte, “But you go on and enjoy okay? Seriously-“ She reached out and boldly hugged the cattaur for a brief second, “Eat and don’t you dare run away.” Grateful of the cloak that protected her from the radiant cold and from being caught at stumbling away Zura turned and bolted down the hallway.
Have fun Triston…and be happy.
Confused Triston just blinked as the centauress disappeared from sight. What was this all about? Already Shona had been acting weird and Akiye was still nowhere to be found after disappearing with Constance…what trouble could they be up to? He just shrugged before finally going back to the doors and opening them to step inside the dining hall. As soon as his eyes adjusted to the dim room with the flickering lights it dawned on him. They were really doing this to him then? Triston clicked his tongue in his mouth before heading back to open the doors he had just entered through, but the noise of a sliding lock prevented him from exiting. Really? Those girls…biting the inside of his mouth the cattaur just turned back towards the room and sighed. Candles lit up the room in faint colors while the table was obviously set for just two taurs. Plenty of food decorated it as well and as his stomach rumbled Triston decided he might as well steal a bite before trying to flee the scene through the other doors.

Constance looked after Akiye curiously. That was... sudden. Looking to the doors, she heard someone shuffling around inside. Oh. Others must be there then! She took a quick look down at herself and her new clothes. Did she actually look okay? A few more vines grew to secure the shirt, and make herself feel more at home in it. The shawl was hung around her shoulders, and another peek was sent at her cast to make sure she hadn't smudged the paint. Everything seemed in place...
She pulled the doors open, and blinking at the dim light. What? "Triston.." Her tail twitched and her smile rose, quite glad to see him there. He did come... But, the table was only set for two. "Where is everyone else sitting?" she asked, oblivious to the implication of such an intimate dining environment, walking in to trace her finger over the edge of one of the plates. "It's so pretty in here, the others should be able to enjoy it, too." She looked over to Triston, and smiled lightly. He was even more intense in the candlelight...
