He wasn't ok, Damien knew that but he still had to try. It was one thing for the mindflayer to pull him aside to talk it out, but for her to actually be there for him for more than that.
He wasn't going to assume she was heartless, but he never would have expected her to do that for his sake. He let the words sink in and worm Its way inside his thoughts like some kind of brain ninja. " It's a growing experience that's for sure" he replied back with a sniffle and rubbing his eyes.
His face felt flush with his puffy cheeks burning up from sadness and shame. " yeah it won't always work out my way, but it don't mean we can't wish it would, right?" he said back meekly. "roll with the punches, sage advice." he tried to say back cheekily and gave her a hug as a thank you, I might not have been much but it was honest.
"if I ever need it, I'll take you up on the offer, and the same goes for you Riley." he said with a finger to her mouthless face. "You ever need a ear to talk to, I've got two right here." flicking both his ears toward her direction.
" I won't let you go through anything alone." he stated with a determined tear streaked face. If his case was any indication, he knew for sure that she'd be there for the student body.

Riley pulled away, and bent her head slightly to look up into his face. Her hands slid up, reached to rest against his cheeks, and her thumbs brushed the tears away. His offer made her eyes sparkle with affection.
Good. I might take you up on that very soon, in fact. It is nice to know.
Her hands dropped back down to wrap around him again, though only one arm looped around his body this time. reached up and tugged one of the ears that flicked at her, tugging it down gently from the tip. Though I won't need these lovely ears for it, obviously. She teased.

She was complacent as he led her a short distance away, hopefully far enough that not many people would be able to make out the expression on her face. Slowly, she lowered her hands, her palms and cheeks damp and her lips pressed into a thin line. She tried to take Shun's advice and take a few deep breaths, but she found that, for once, it didn't seem to help her much.
She shook her head at the reaper's words. "N-no, m-maybe if I hadn't met them, o-or..." Perhaps she was just grasping for something to blame herself with, but the ghoul had to trail off after that particular sentence. It sounded as if she was saying that she regretting being friends with the two, and that was most certainly not the case. To be honest, she couldn't imagine her life without them--and her other friends--now, but...
"...I-I've made such a mess of things," Xiu whispered, her voice cracking on the end, "I-I've been myself...b-but maybe that's the problem." If she had been more courageous, assertive, or perceptive, perhaps this could have gone differently. Maybe they would all still be friends and nothing more, or perhaps she could have honestly and confidently have said that she returned one of their feelings. Or...would it not have made a difference?
"I...I c-can't let them s-see me like this." What would they say? What would she say to them? Not only the boils, but to Riley too, who had so kindly pulled her aside to give her advice earlier. A part of her told herself that she was being completely overdramatic about this whole thing, but another part said that her distress was completely well-founded.

Roch tugged off his guitar as soon as the song was done, letting it disappear. "I think I'll haveta call it a night," he said. He had just done something extremely dirty and underhanded, after all, he thought with a mix of self disgust and amusement. Just because he could, he had.
He liked Riley, he thought as he stepped off the platform, shoving his hands into his pockets. But she had no clue how devious he could really be. That had been an attack that he KNEW Demi couldn't pull off.
That Xiu did remind him of that song, of those sweet nights out on the street as people danced for them, Bones and him playing together to the full moon, that time right before he had--
Well, that didn't make dedicating a song in front of a rival any less dirty.

Continuing to move away from the booth, Shun let out a sigh. When she started to speak again, his eyes narrowed and he turned her, grabbing a hold of both of her shoulders to stare directly into her eyes.
"Stop that. There is nothing wrong with the way you are. You're a kind and compassionate girl, how the hell is that a bad thing? This. Is. Not. Your. Fault," he hissed, "Things will ride out, one way or another. Now stop blaming yourself for something you had no control over. If you need something to blame that badly, then blame me for spurring these things in you."
Frowning deeply, he paused there, staring hard.

Yes, Xiu knew that all of this would pass eventually, but would it manage to smooth itself over, or would this leave permanent imperfections on their friendships? She was struggling to keep her emotions in check--in the future, she would probably look back on herself and muse how overdramatic she was being--but when Shun told her eye-to-eye that it wasn't her fault, the Baku just about broke down there, having to clasp her hands over her mouth to suppress . Sometimes it was harder being treated with kindness rather than being blamed for something.
What shocked her, however, was Shun's willingness to take the blame for something that really wasn't his fault at all. "W-what? A-aniki, you...you didn't do a-anything wrong! N-now that I...I know, then maybe..." Maybe she could fix it? Xiu wasn't entirely sure where she was going with this--her mind had begun to fog up--but she knew that she wouldn't blame the reaper for any of this. It wasn't his fault...just like how he had been telling her that it wasn't hers.
But...it had been her fault, hadn't it? At the very least, if Roch and Demi's friendship had shattered because of this...
She looked down at the ground. "I...I think I...need to go. Think a-about things alone for a while." Raising quivering hands to her shoulders, she gently slid out of Shun's grasp, but not before giving one of his hands a grateful squeeze. Before she turned to leave, she scooped up the Riley plushie that she had dropped, hugging it to her chest for comfort. "...C-could you tell...Riley and--...a-and the others that I said goodbye?"
When she turned and ran off in the direction of the demon dorms, her face crumpled.

A part of Shun wondered if he should have withheld that information. But then again, she would have probably found out sooner or later. Her reaction might not be all too different then too. Hell, there was even a chance she could take things worse.
Though, it seemed that his attempts to calm her down failed.
Placing his hands back into his pockets, he watched her run off before letting out a sigh. The whole deal about emotions, relationships, and the like seemed to be all incredibly troublesome. Even people more familiar with these sorts of things were struggling. It wasn't just him. Though, the exact things people were dealing with were a bit different.
"Is all this struggle really worth it?" he muttered to himself, thinking it over.

Who knew that Riley was so compassionate, almost motherly. The mere motion of his tears being wiped away just made him want to spill more, but smiling through the stains, he wanted to do nothing more than lick her cheek in gratitude.
"Friendship isn't just a one way street, my room is always open to you." he reminded her.
The hound in turn looped his hand into hers, keeping them locked together and chuckled at the ear poke that made his ear flick back in protest. "Why not, they hear quite well?" He blurted out before realizing that she wasn't speaking per se. "Oh! Right." he muttered out sheepishly.
Mindspeak was such a funny thing to remember.

Riley's expression lifted when Demi finally understood her meaning, but she continued to look forward towards her booth instead of glancing at him in amusement. When she arrived, however, the amusement faded. She'd been just in time to catch Xiu running off, and her brow furrowed deeply. Her eyes flit to the boil she'd been speaking with before leaving, and inwardly she blamed him for making her run.
That Shun... hopefully, he did not have a crush on Xiu as well. The poor thing would burst if that were the case.
Ah well. We should pack up. She muttered under her breath. I suppose we've nothing left to do but.. hope for the best come election day.
She took in a sharp, nervous sigh, and got to work on packing everything away.
